The Syracuse coaching staff is in full recruiting mode and has offered a scholarship to New Jersey defensive tackle David Ryslik. The Orange already has two verbal commitments from New York: running backs Tyrone Perkins and Jordan Fredericks. It is encouraging to see Syracuse actively recruiting in the New York and New Jersey areas.
Ryslik stands 6’3’’ and weighs 293 pounds. It is still early, but rivals.com has him rated as the 26th best player in New Jersey for the 2015 high school class. In addition to Syracuse, Ryslik has offers from Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, Temple and Yale. Ryslik tweeted that he was “beyond blessed” to have received an offer from Syracuse, but has made no comment publicly on whether he’ll visit SU.
Ryslik’s weight and size is similar to that of current Syracuse defensive tackle Eric Crume when he committed. Crume, who will be a senior in the fall, started every game for the Orange last season and has gained 30 pounds since his high school days. Similarly to Ryslik, Crume was not pegged to play right away for the Orange, but ended up being one of just ten true freshmen to play for Syracuse under Doug Marrone in 2011.
As a 3-star recruit, many will say Ryslik can’t play right away for the Orange if he ends up committing. Syracuse has two solid defensive tackles for this upcoming season in Crume and redshirt junior Ryan Sloan. Currently, SU has very little experience at tackle behind these two on its depth chart. Sophomore Marcus Coleman played sparingly last season and no one knows what to expect from junior college transfer Wayne Williams. If Ryslik ends up attending Syracuse in 2015, Sloan will be a senior and Ryslik could potentially be Shafer’s second option at tackle because of his massive frame and impressive weight.
This is all speculation of course, but a commitment from Ryslik would definitely benefit SU.

Noone can say that we’re not recruiting the State of NJ or the NYC/LI areas anymore. David Ryslik is the latest recruit from NJ that received an offer from the Cuse.
With all of the offers out to the recruits from NJ,I hope that all of the efforts made by Syracuse pay’s off and we get approximately 8-10 of them to commit.
RON–SUFB always looks in the NYS/LI/NJ direction for talent. The real issue is signing QUALITY talent from these areas!! Not just look at them and drooling at the talent there!! Again its HCSS shotgun method of recruiting. This method of his is to show the interested targets, but in reality do they really want SUFB??? It really didn’t work last year. We’ll see this year. I hope it works. Its the only foundation that will help SUFB grow locally effectively!!

Terry the last sentence is what we have to take from the Schafer approach. We gotta crawl before we walk, walk before we run. Cuse will in time be rebuilt into a consistent top 25 program. I think we will have a good mix of top tier NE talent, and quality talent from the midwest and SouthEast as well.
