Now that the spring game is over, the summer offseason for Syracuse football begins. The players can now only work out on their own until they officially report to camp on August 4th. It is a different story for the orange coaching staff. Scott Shafer and company now embark on recruiting trips all across the nation. With two 2015 verbal commit sso far (running backs Tyrone Perkins and Jordan Fredericks), the SU coaches have some work to do.
Syracuse coaches will go about this crucial recruiting period much differently than in years past. Shafer was hired by Syracuse in January of 2013 and over the last two seasons he has recruited heavily in areas he and his coaching staff know best. That’s why so many of SU’s recent commits have come from either Illinois or the south. This year, Shafer wants to work harder in the New York and New Jersey areas like his predecessor Doug Marrone.
Syracuse offensive line coach Joe Adam has been assigned to be the head recruiter in New York City. First year tight ends coach Bobby Acosta is in charge of New Jersey and Long Island. Shafer wants his future recruiting classes to be made up of top players from all over the country.
This new system is paying off despite being barely a month old. Acosta was the primary recruiter of Tyrone Perkins.
The Orange has definitely started slow out of the gate this recruiting season but the team is headed in the right direction. If Adam and Acosta are successful in bringing in talent from New York and New Jersey then the Orange will be competitive in three key regions across the country. That’s a big step forward for a team that used to mainly recruit players from only its own backyard. With quite a few offers already handed out and many more to come, it will be interesting to see which players in the 2015 class choose to play at Syracuse.

i really am pumped about being new yorks college team. i really like this coaching staff and what there working on bringing the football program back to prominance again. i beleive the city of syracuse will be a exciting place to be in the fall season.
I agree sackster recruiting seems to be trending up and a top 40 type class would certainly lift hopes and expectations here.Im hoping we find a “headliner” most use to lure others…sorta a bellweather type that kids follow! Better if it is a NJ type kid to crack that “nut”. I know were in on a few!?!
RUSS top 40 is quite a ways off for now. 2014’s class was mid 50s to low 50’s!! If SU’s first 3 players are NR,2 star and 3 star 40’s is differently off!! OL and DL and taller DB’s are a must in this years class!! Athletes are not a bad gamble at all too. A player that can fit into at least 3 positions is a no brainer if at least a 3 star!!
I do not agree with HCSS style of not bringing in talent on a full house kind of game at the dome. HCSS wants a one on one with no distraction at all from a big game setting!! To me it shows the best of the program(if the facilities are dome-but I doubt it) and a loud DOME too!! He’s so far against it!! And I was told it was because getting beat badly just does not give that good jive about the program. So I’ll be surprised when FSU comes here for example if any talent comes with them.
My family/friend’s son has narrowed it down to 4 schools Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and UCLA!! His family moved from NYS to Georgia when he was 4 years old!! He’s looking at Engineering!! I asked about SYRACUSE he did get a offer, but he’s not crazy about the weather(loves the summers here and the cottage on the lake). He checked out the Engineering School at SU that’s fine!! To him he’s from a quality High School that gets beat up year in and out and he’s tired of that also. Can not blame him on that. He started as a FR and the last 3 years his team won 8, 8 and 9 games. He says this team has tons of seniors on it with other offers to!! The sites told him he’s a high 3 star border line 4 star know but will be a low 4 and with ANY improvement he’ll be a solid 4. It think its UCLA, because he was at California as a JR for a camp and he loved the scenery mainly the women(do not tell mom/dad)!! Smart kid too!! All tests are no problem!! Good kid!! Hope the best for him!!
DO NOT FORGET THE KIDS OF PSABUSEDU!! THE NCAA DID!!
So there’s no conspiracy? It’s just weather and winning? Not surprised, but UCLA doesn’t have winning either Terry.
Pretty good UNIVERSITY TOO though!! And UCLA better winning this year plus their QB(SR) is good too, so that program is gaining. Got to admit that. They also have a good Coach. And I’ll bet you Malone UCLA will finish with a higher record wise and recruiting wise too!! So be careful with your words!! In all honesty to him the education is what he wants first. Good for him!!
