Iona Prep’s perfect season rolled on Friday night with a 28-0 victory over Cardinal Hayes at Baker Field, improving the Gaels to 6-0.
The score might suggest a comfortable night, but the game had plenty of intensity. Both teams played with an edge from the opening kickoff, and a series of disputed calls helped fuel a physical, chippy contest that saw emotions run high throughout.
When the dust settled, Iona Prep’s playmakers took over. Quarterback Jaydin Jackson threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns, continuing his strong season, while Chase Reeves powered the ground game with 107 rushing yards and two scores. Reeves has now posted multiple rushing touchdowns in back-to-back games. Trey Newton was Jackson’s favorite target, finishing with 142 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The win marked Iona Prep’s third straight victory over Cardinal Hayes and extended the Gaels’ unbeaten start. The Cardinals entered the matchup with a four-game winning streak but left with a 4-2 record.
For Iona Prep, the result was another statement win from a team that continues to handle every challenge thrown its way. The Gaels will look to keep that momentum going when they host Fordham Prep next Friday night.
