Tyrone Perkins¬†(Running back, Locust Valley, NY): SU‚Äôs first 2015 commit tore his ACL in a scrimmage last week and will not play a high school game this season. He hopes to be fully healthy when he arrives at Syracuse next summer. Orange Nation should keep its eyes on two other running back commits this fall for the 2015 class: New Jersey‚Äôs Dontae Strickland and New York‚Äôs Jordan Fredericks. Here’s an updated look at five important Syracuse football recruits who have given their verbals to the Orange:
- Troy Henderson Jr.¬†(Linebacker, Cleveland, Ohio): Henderson Jr.‚Äôs plays for one of the country’s powerhouses in St. Edward Prep (ranked 5th¬†in the nation). They knocked off Gilman (Washington DC) two weeks ago 38-7 on ESPNU. ¬†The linebacker had an enormous day, finishing with 12 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Henderson Jr. and the St. Edward defense did an excellent job keeping quarterback Kai Locksley, a Florida State commit, quiet in the game. Last weekend St. Edward beat Glenville (ranked 10th¬†in Ohio) 47-7.
- Colin Byrne and Sam Clausman (Offensive linemen, Ft. Lauderdale, FL). One of the rare high school teams ranked ahead of St. Edward in national polls. St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked third in the country and has both Byrne and Clausman in its program. Aquinas has not started its season yet, but has one of the best rushing attacks in the nation. Byrne and Clausman will block for Jordan Scarlet, a Miami commit, and Deltron Sands, a Maryland commit.
- Sterling Hofrichter (Kicker, Seffner, Florida): Hofrichter’s Armwood high school defeated Blake high school in its second game of the year 37-0 last weekend. Hofrichter made a 32-yard field goal and missed a 57-yard attempt. In Armwood’s opener Hofrichter had a monstrous 61-yard punt.
- Andrejas Duerig: (Offensive lineman, Chicago, Illinois): Chicago’s Mount Carmel fell 28-27 to Philadelphia’s St. Joseph high school (ranked 15th in the nation) in its season opener. Despite the loss, Duerig and the rest of the offensive line paved the way for two different 100-yard Mount Carmel rushers.
