Two days ago ESPN announced the 12 football games the channel will air for the annual GEICO High School Football Showcase. These games show some of the best high school talent in the country and provide football fans a chance to see top high school players in action before they attend college.
Two of the games have links to Syracuse.
2015 SU commit Troy Henderson Jr. will feature on Sunday August 31 at 4pm on ESPNU. The linebacker’s St. Edward team (Ohio) will host the Gilman School (Maryland). Henderson Jr. and the rest of the St. Edward defense will be tasked with stopping Gilman’s 4-star duel-threat quarterback Kai Locksley, who is committed to Florida State.
On September 11, two New Jersey teams face off in a game that is sure to grab the attention of the Syracuse coaches. St. Peter’s Prep will host Bergen Catholic at 7pm on ESPNU. Prep’s D’won Walker (cornerback) attended SU’s spring game earlier this year and visited campus a second time in hopes of receiving an offer from the Orange. Unfortunately for Walker, cornerbacks rated ahead of him (Andrew Spence and Gerald Robinson) ended up committing to SU so he was not offered. Don Bosco (NJ) cornerback Daivon Ellison is said to be choosing between Syracuse and a few other schools in the coming weeks, and he is also rated ahead of Walker. If Ellison ends up not choosing the Orange, then Walker will surely be a contender for the third and final cornerback spot in the 2015 class.
This game has other ties to SU as well. The St. Peter’s Prep coaching staff attended a Syracuse football-coaching clinic last spring. Prep has two of the three top New Jersey recruits in 2015 so it is important that the SU coaches have a good relationship with the program. No players in the 2015 class from either New Jersey team will most likely be attending Syracuse, but these are two schools the Orange coaches have looked at in the past and will continue to look at in the future.

This is a very confusing article. At the top you say St. Peter’s will play Bergen Catholic, then later describe how Don Bosco has Daivon Ellison, who may be choosing Syracuse next week (8/11). You then say that despite D’won Walker and Ellison, that SU has no class of ’15 prospects in the game. Help me understand here.

SU was interested D’Won Walker (who plays for Prep) but because cornerbacks SU rate above him committed he was not offered. Ellison comes into play because he is a corner that SU rates above Walker and the coaches think he will commit. If Ellison does not commit then that will open up a spot for another corner which could be Walker. It’s a little confusing, but is that clearer?
With the exception of Walker SU has no interest in any 2015 players in the New Jersey game, but because these are two excellent New Jersey high school teams I’m sure the coaches will at least take a look at a few 2016 and 2017 players in the game which is why it is important.

Went to Fan Fest today and I will tell you Terrel Hunt is a little better than last year.
Here’s a couple of quotes taken from one of the sports writers in attendance.
a) Kimble’s day got off to a rough start. After being sacked by freshman linebacker Jonathan Thomas,he threw a gift-wrapped pick six that freshman linebacker Colton Moskal dropped
b)Wilson saw the least amount of time on the field Saturday but looked the best.
c)The takeaway: Wilson looked good. Kimble looked so-so. Long looked like a freshman who the staff wanted to get extra reps. He got nearly as many snaps as Hunt. However, he seemed to have a limited playbook.
So guy’s you all think I’m a little cocky when I say Wilson should be the back up QB with a good shot a becoming the starter.
Terry last week I posted that the foundation was 95% completed and the steel work should start soon and be completed by the end of the month. It looks like the foundation is completed and the steel work will start going up Monday. Things are really coming along on the IPF building.
Great group of fans were in attendance for the scrimmage.

Sounds like Wilson should be the #2 QB. I think he is he best passer of the group. Kimbell should be third ..and AJ should redshirt!

I know that I’m sounding like a broken record here,but Austin Wilson looked better than everyone of the QB’s including Terrel Hunt.
Terrel looked good because he was throwing the ball against the second team defense.
There were plenty of true freshmen on the field Saturday and all who played looked really good. Defenseive players were hitting real hard.
I was impressed with the group of recievers especially Fr. Steve Ishmael and So. Sean Avant.
It looked like PTG will be the primary RB this year,Adonis Ameen-Moore will be the wrecking ball and mix things up during the game and probably get used in short yardage situations. George Morris II and Devante McFarland hasn’t lost a step during the off season and both looked really good running the ball off guard.
The team used a lot of those dump passes and bubble screen passes during the scrimmage. I hope that that’s not going to be the main play on offense this year.
One other thing that I did notice the team was faster running a play on average every 10-12 seconds. Looks like Coach McDonald is implementing a faster game.
Well fella’s tomorrow is the day we find out who this mystery recruit is.

Connor, I was confused about who is playing. You mentioned both Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco, and I couldn’t understand that you meant to mention both, but that BC is playing and Bosco is only mentioned because of Ellison’s pending decision. Looking forward to hearing that tomorrow.
From all accounts I read, Terrel looked by far the best and that the offense is miles better with him at the helm than anyone else. Besides in my opinion, no inside info at all, even if Wilson some what compared, Hunt would have to get seriously injured for anyone to start before him. Maybe, I value experience too much but none of the other qb’s are talented enough yet to compete with Rel Hunt at all
P.s I’m a huge fan of Terrel Hunt and this team in general
We all know that Hunt will be the # 1 Qb after camp. If he struggles against Villanova the coaches need to take a hard look at Wilson in game 2. There is no time to waste. I have not seen Wilson or Kimble. I am only going on what others have said on this board that Wilson is ahead of Kimble and that Long is not ready to be a contender.
