At any given moment during this season there were about a dozen former Syracuse players in the NFL. That number can change slightly week-to-week depending on movement on the practice squads, but for active 53-man rosters, it’s about 12 former Orange dotting the league. Just two weeks to go until the end of the regular season, and the beginning of the playoffs. Will any of Syracuse players be hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy, or acting as an unlikely (or likely) hero in the Super Bowl (a la David Tyree in ’07)? This year’s big game is set at Met Life Stadium, so it would be even sweeter if “New York’s College Team” could claim a ring.

If you’re looking to throw some cash down on the game, there’s plenty of¬†betting options for Super Bowl XLVIII.¬†Here’s the odds of a former Orange nabbing a ring and headlines:

Best Odds: 

Chandler Jones – DE – New England Patriots He’s the best pass rusher on a surefire playoff team. The Pats will host a playoff game by winning the division and could have a BYE as well. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady means there’s always a chance at a ring. Jones has been quiet at times this year, but rushing the passer is vital in January, especially with the defensive injuries the Pats have sustained. He’s the best chance for Syracuse to get a ring and make noise in the NFL playoffs.

Decent Odds: 

Steve Gregory – S – New England Patriots He plays every week for the Pats and is a reliable part of the secondary, but he hasn’t tallied an INT all season. The postseason makes for some unlikely stars, so maybe a few errant passes fall into his lap. But again, the Pats have a chance at getting to Met Life especially knowing how they have the answers for Peyton Manning.

Arthur Jones – LB – Baltimore Ravens The defending Super Bowl champs are starting to get on a roll. The Monday night win in Detroit means the Ravens could now win the division and host a playoff game if they win their final two games. Jones has tackles in every game this season, including 4 sacks. Certainly possible he could step into a headline role with a strip sack of Tom Brady in the divisional round, or if the Ravens make another run.

Low Odds: 

Jameel McClain – LB – Baltimore Ravens Yes, the Ravens have a great chance to make the postseason. Sure, they could go on a run like last year. But McClain doesn’t play enough to figure into many game-changing plays.

Nearly Zero Odds: 

Tony Fiameetta – FB – Chicago Bears The Bears offense is clicking, and right now they lead the NFC North. Chicago could find itself with a home game in the playoffs, and an attack which opens up the eyes of the country. But Fiammetta’s most likely to simply provide some blocking for Matt Forte’s glory, or protecting Jay Cutler/Josh McCown’s blindside.
