When The Fizz checked Twitter a few months back and learned of freshman defensive back Jaston George’s super-abs, we hoped they might translate into an in-game impact. Turns out, he’s injured and it appears he’ll redshirt this season. As George himself puts it:
‚ÄúI’m doin aiit gtta gt surgery on my groin nxt week doe‚Äù
“tore some muscles n pieces of my hip bone”
‚Äúkant do no ‘lower body activity’ fha 3months‚Äù
Since he isn’t able to contribute on the field this year, Jas seems to have found a different place to contribute during games – the Twitterverse.
While his teammates were busy making Rhode Island look more like West Virginia or Pittsburgh, George fired off around a dozen tweets during the game, all of them completely unrelated to football.

Congrats to Jaston for both his tremendous appetite and his ability to creatively avoid curse words, but it still struck The Fizz as odd to see a member of the SU team tweeting a flood of non-football thoughts during a game.
You may question why he wasn’t on the sidelines, but injured Orange players aren’t required to be down on the field during games. Chandler Jones wasn’t with the team during the Rhode Island game, either.
Were George’s tweet-happy fingers doing anything wrong? Probably not. But it doesn’t reflect the “all-in” mentality Doug Marrone is looking for from his squad. Though he may not have broken any official rules (although disclosing injuries is not likely applauded by the coaches), he probably shouldn‚Äôt have been using social media in the middle of his team‚Äôs competition to talk about anything other than the game itself.
When Syracuse basketball plays road games, some of the younger walk-on players have to stay back in ‘Cuse. They’ll send out some tweets during games, but all of them give the impression that they’re following and rooting for their squad.
Jim Boeheim likely doesn’t object to the tweets from his walk-ons, but something tells us Marrone may feel differently about George’s tweets. They don’t fall in line with the image of a united, focused, no-nonsense program that Marrone is trying to create.
Personally for George, he might want to notice the cornerbacks have struggled for SU so far. The way the secondary is playing, the Orange could use Jas next season. He should be champing at the bit to contribute, not for another chili cheese dog.
Watching Syracuse‚Äôs games intently and studying up on Scott Shafer‚Äôs defense would only help his chances of earning playing time next season. Showing maturity and an emotional investment in the team’s performance could help prove George is ready to be counted on when he returns from injury. We’ve certainly seen SU athletes tweet more offensive commentary, but George’s “fatboy ish” during games can’t impress his head coach.

Alright. I gave up reading this terrible site because of crap content like this months ago. For some reason i decided to give it another chance, and once again all you deliver is complete diarhea of the mouth and nothing of substance. Do you guys really have nothing better to talk about than a kids tweets about eating? People expect to read quality information on the athletic programs at SU, not about eating habits and an attempt at humor by a student athlete. No wonder noone respects this website anymore.

He tweeted about food that doesn’t mean anything but he tweeted about food. There is no story here…although there is one tweet about acchione…that of course didn’t make your story lol.
You can’t study a defense from watching it on tv especially the back four because they show it from an akward angle and barely show the back four unril a ball is thrown and how would he ‘learn’ anything he doesn’t know the playcalls.
You guys should really put more effort into your gossip.

If you’re looking for quality information on the SU athletic programs I would also look at stories we’ve done this week alone on the growth of a young LB corps, the in home visit of Jerami Grant, the Xs and Os of SU’s first two football games and an interview with Brent Axe. It’s all free content here at the Fizz, just like this piece on Jaston’s gastro-intestinal exploits. “diarrhea” actually has two R’s and let’s hope Jaston doesn’t have it after last weekends meals. You watched the game. I watched the game. One of the injured players did not. I do find that interesting. The timeline of tweets was indeed during the game. You have every right to criticize any post on the site. We absolutely love the feedback. But I would disagree that a site that posts 7 days a week, hosts a podcast/radio show, and talks to recruits, coaches and players would be described as lazy. Clinically insane? Probably. But not lazy. Although I gotta get you on staff – you comment on every post we have! You might read this more than I do and I’m the editor. Keep the feedback coming!

I personally don’t think any athlete should be twittering-facebooking-whatever during a game, injured or not. A pro is paid to play, not twitter his thoughts from the bench or the locker; a college kid gets a full-ride. If the kid is hurt or not playing, I don’t see why he’s not in an area along the sidelines. I used to attend every game in the Dome, but moved out of the area. The only sideline injury I ever saw was Joe Morris plowing into the concrete holding the seating. Didn’t once see someone run through the injured guys. Pay attention to the game, and learn.
DA – can I get a guest staff spot too? I could pester your radio show on 98.5, but college sports don’t matter in the area.

How about you shut up and write a story that has some substance. You have no idea what you are talking about because you were not there. There is nothing wrong with tweeting during a game..it does not mean that he is not paying attention to what is going on or that he does not care. There is only so much he can do. I am sure that you have been hungry or stuffed your face while writing one of your trashy articles.
As for the players not being on the field..its not that they are not required to be down on the field it’s that they are not allowed so again check your information. If they were given permission to be down on the field they would be.
Another thing..what does the basketball team or Jim Boeheim have to do with any of this? Nothing!! Exactly so come up with something else to say. Stop making comparisons that do not matter at all.
It seems that you have nothing better to do than follow a Syracuse football player that is currently working to do whatever he can to get back out there on the field. Next time you want to say something smart say something that actually makes sense. Until then keep your mouth shut because you just look like a fool!!
