The Fizz touched on the positive seven days that Syracuse football had last week, but there have been some new developments. In basketball, Jim Boeheim offered another player last weekend under one condition. Of course there’s no ‘Cuse football or basketball being played right now, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any excitement.
Starting in basketball, Syracuse added to the list of guards it is interested in when the coaching staff offered a scholarship to 2016 New York combo guard Kevin Huerter Friday. We are all familiar with how Syracuse is set to lose scholarships starting next season because of NCAA violations and here’s where Huerter’s offer gets interesting. The Orange wants Huerter to go to prep school and commit in the 2017 class; there is no offer if he wants to come in 2016.
Might Syracuse be in the wrong here? Asking a high school kid to go through a whole other year of school before coming in sounds like a lot. Huerter has an August birthday though, so he is young, and he had thought about doing a year of prep school before Syracuse’s offer. The Orange has some roadblocks now because of the NCAA sanctions and this seems like a smart way to try and bring in top talent while dealing with the punishments.
In football, New Jersey quarterback Anthony Brown says he will verbally commit to a school after he visits Virginia Tech this week. Offensive coordinator Tim Lester has told Brown that he is Syracuse’s top 2016 quarterback target. The high school junior released a top five list of colleges last month that included the Orange, but not the Hokies.
If Brown ends up committing, that leaves Syracuse with potentially five dual threat quarterbacks on the roster next season with AJ Long, Eric Dungey, Kenterious Womack, Alin Edouard (if he qualifies academically) and Brown. That would make for an exciting QB battle after Terrel Hunt graduates.

I agree with ORANGEINVA,Alin Edouard is never coming to Syracuse. Let’s move on,you don’t even mention a thing about Austin Wilson,I feel the two QB’s that have a shot are Eric Dungey and Kenterious Womack. AJ Long’s size should force him either to transfer out or transition to another position.
I think Shafer has put all of his eggs in one basket for the 2015 campaign by giving/making Terrell Hunt the starting QB. If he fumbles/stumbles and don’t have a winning season and fails to go to a bowl,Terrell Hunt won’t be the only person that will be gone at the end of the year. Damn, I hated toi make that statement!!!!
