Robert Washington is dominating the Syracuse football headlines. The 4-star North Carolina running back plans to make his collegiate decision on Saturday and the Orange is in the race to land him.
The restore 44 debate has resurfaced these last couple of weeks. Many fans want to un-retire the historic number so Washington can wear it. The Post Standard has been updating fans on Washington’s recruitment every few days. He’s the talk of the town.
There’s a second highly touted player SU has been recruiting though, and he’s not getting the same attention that Washington has received. He also has a much better chance of signing a Letter of Intent to play at Syracuse. This player is 3-star New Jersey quarterback Anthony Brown.
The 3-star label is not as sexy as the 4-star one, but like Washington, Brown would be a significant addition to SU’s recruiting class. He’s a 6’2’’ dual threat QB who’s getting looks from Notre Dame and Ohio State. He can play.
The New Jersey connection makes him more likely to land at SU. Wide receivers coach Bobby Acosta recruits the state well. He was a major factor behind running back Dontae Strickland, defensive lineman Jake Picard and cornerback Daivon Ellison coming to Syracuse from the Garden State in 2015. New Director of Football Operations Drew Robinson also has ties to New Jersey.
In addition to all of this Brown is good friends with 2016 wide receiving commit Sadiq Palmer.
Washington might have narrowed down a list of six schools with SU being one of them, but it’s tough to make a case for the Orange because of his other offers and lack of ties to the school. It’s much easier to do so with Brown, who has also put out a list with SU on it. He’s a more realistic big name target.

Connor Morrissette,QB Anthony Brown is currently rated as a 3* on some of the websites. Rivals.com stands alone rating him a 4* recruit. I can only hope that Coach Acosta works some of his magic on these recruits and brings them home to the Cuse
Connor,I forgot to add that I don’t think Anthony Brown is getting pushed aside by the coaching staff at Syracuse University. I think it’s just wishful thinking by some in the local media that’s trying to make something out of nothing,trying to stir up the pot and have Anthony Brown think that we’ve thrown him to the wind and that the Syracuse coaching staff doesn’t want him anymore,which to me is totally ludicrous and very misleading.
Don’t forget that Brown was told by the staff that he is the #1 QB target. Don’t forget that he is trained by the hottest QB coach in NJ. The same one that trained ND commit Brandon Wimbush, and this past off season our own AJ Long. The same coach who played QB at Syracuse, Madei Williams. Competition will heat up for Brown, but we’re in prety good shape here.

I believe that Syracuse University with the efforts of Coach Acosta is looking really really good getting some of the top notch recruits out of new Jersey. I know it’s just my opinion though. They are putting the finishing touches to the new IPF building. They’ve started the landscaping and are working on the “Plaza 44” phases of the project. When the huge “block S” is added to the front of the building it will then be completed. Construction crews are working on the new track up to Skytop and should have that completed this summer.
The players all tell me just how nice and how big the building is on the inside. The building is taking on it’s own personality. Can’t wait to go visit the building and see for myself how nice it is.
