As pointed out by some very astute Fizz readers and commenters, the Syracuse recruiting class of 2015 was not turning any heads until recently.  Rivals and Scout have increased a few of their rankings for the Syracuse class, and the group looks greatly improved from a short while ago.
As a disclaimer, the ratings systems instituted by websites and scouts are completely subjective.  While a recruit may receive a poor rating, he could turn out to be a star (Shamarko Thomas, Alec Lemon and Cameron Lynch were 2-star recruits).  On the other hand, plenty of high-rated players have become busts.
With that out of the way, according to Rivals, Syracuse has nine 3-star recruits and 13 2-star recruits.  Dontae Strickland, the highest-rated Syracuse recruit on Rivals, has a rating of 5.7.  So does Daiquan Kelly.  For comparison, 2014’s highest rated recruit is Steve Ishmael (5.7).
Yahoo! and Rivals have the Orange tied with Northwestern for the 30th-best recruiting class in the nation.  Syracuse has an enormous class of 22, while Northwestern only has 16 players committed so far.
The biggest surprise, however, comes from Scout, which ranks all but three of the Orange commitments as 3-star players.  Just a short while ago, nearly half of these players were ranked lower (credit: Dr. Bill for pointing this out Tuesday in the comments).  Only Treevon Prater (no stars), Anthony Giudice (2 stars) and West Lindor (2 stars) are ranked lower than the rest of the group.
While stars don’t mean anything in the long run, it is surely a testament for the advanced scouting that the Orange coaching staff is doing.  Shafer and his coaches are finding players that are off top-programs’ radar and are getting them to commit to the Orange before the nation catches onto their talent.
A perfect, yet hurtful example of this is the decommitment of Davante Davis.  Syracuse earned a verbal from the corner very early in the recruiting cycle when he was a mere 2-star player from Florida.  However, the big dogs of college football in the SEC and Big 10 noticed his talent as his rating shot up to 4 stars, and he quickly revoked his verbal commitment to the Orange.
While the Orange is still working its way toward a 4-star recruit, the signs are all hopeful that the team will get over the hump soon.  Some of these players could end up cracking into the elite range before they suit up in Orange.
The slight bump in ratings is a very positive thing for Syracuse fans to see, and it shows how much of a great job the coaching staff is doing.  Shafer knows talent when he sees it, and isn’t afraid to offer players a scholarship who may be off the radar.  It is obviously paying off, as the recruits are receiving evaluation bumps and the Orange has the 28th best class in the nation and the fifth best in the ACC, according to Scout.

CUSE is recruiting better…
I think I read a statement saying we now have 22 3 star recruits and the previous high was 16(last year’s class). If true, that is significant.
The biggest bump came from scout.com going from a class ranking of 54th to 28th. I also believe that all of the websites are still underrating the Syracuse recruits. I believe Daiquan Kelly and Dontae Strickland along with a couple others should be rated 4* athletes.
Happy to see the coaching staff getting some recognition and respect for their ability to spot talent.
Terry be warned, I have heard rumor that there are as many as four current verbals struggling to improve their academic performance. Some beleive this is why the class is so big with offers still going out (I heard we offered a LB from Georgia just yesterday).
Still don’t like the ranking system of high school kids. Their only kids… Lots of growing and maturing to do.
That said, it’s directional and very positive. Very positive!

There were members of this website that started on Sunday and Monday talking about the recruits getting reevaulated and improving their status. For me this article only validates the thought that WE AS A GROUP ARE ON THE CUTTING EDGE that discuss subjects with common sense logic,no malice that makes us head and shoulders the leaders over websites such as the ESPN website and others who let their fans run a muck.

My two away games this year will be Central Michigan and Boston College. I think both are going to be real good games and am looking forward to seeing their stadiums. Dr. Bill at some point in the future I hope that we do meet and discuss football. I hope you enjoy the Clemson game and are able to walk out with your chest enlarged after watching syracuse beat Clemson.
I just finished reading an article from a Clemson who’s called us the fans loud mouth’s and know nothing about the game of football. I predicted last year an upset of the Tigers and this year I’ve said if Syracuse stay’s close going into the 4th quarter that they either win by one or two points or they tie the game and go into overtime and win the game.
Clemsons reputation is they always lose a game that they’re suppose to lose and end up losing respectability. @Ron yea I lost a lot of money on the Clemson game. I thought Cuse could at least cover the double digit spread, plus I traveled up for my first (football) game in the dome and it was still awesome.

With Syracuse being the heavy underdog against Clemson in the 1995 Gator Bowl,I set with my wife and enjoyed the game so much that I can almost see Donavon McNabb single handily destroy the Tigers. It remains one of the all time greatest games Syracuse has ever played. I’m really looking forward to that happening again. This team is loaded and Clemson should be a little worried. Clemson fans like talking smack and were doing the same back then too. Last year remember they were talking the 12th ranked team making a run for the nation championship game. DIDN’T HAPPEN!!!!!
I think 2014 is the time syracuse Football starts to shine again on the national scene. With a victory over a team like Clemson,I feel the nation will be talking Syracuse Football.
The two coaches that I’m going to watch this year are Dabo Sweeney of Clemson and Bobby Petrino of Louisville to see which one gets crowned the king of trash talking in the ACC this year. This season is going to b e interesting. CAN’T WAIT.
@Ron I’m doing great how about yourself? I have comitted to Swarthmore college. I actually did end up getting like 6 d1 offers but I ultimately just picked the best school academically that offered me.
