When 2015 corner back Davante Davis gave Syracuse his verbal commitment on May 6, he probably had no idea that other offers were going to come flying at him later that month.
Davis, a corner with great size (6’2”, 200 pounds), verbally committed to play for the Orange earlier in the month when he only held offers from Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati, Florida International, and the Virginia Cavaliers.  He was the fourth recruit for the class of 2015.  Davis attended Booker T. Washington High School, near the Miami area, and was reportedly hoping for an offer from the hometown Miami Hurricanes.
Since he verbally accepted Syracuse’s offer, there has been an avalanche of attention for the young player.  He has now received more offers from higher profile programs, like Louisville, UCF, South Carolina, Ohio State, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Georgia, and the almighty Alabama Crimson Tide.  He also received an offer from the Hurricanes, but that seems miniscule compared to some of the top-tier programs.
Once an unranked prospect, Davis is slowly rocketing up big boards.  He is now has a 3-star rating.
Davis had his junior season of high school football was cut short by a shoulder injury.  He has good physicality and ball skills, which stems from his tight end play earlier in his football career.  Davis is also a very physical player who succeeds in press coverage. He also excels in the running game because is not afraid to make or take a big hit to bring down the opposing running back.
The spotlight may make Davis reconsider his commitment, but if the Orange and George McDonald can retain his interest until he can officially sign in February, it will be a huge prize for the Syracuse recruiting efforts.  Davis is one of many recruits in the class of 2015 from the South Florida area.
Right now, Davis seems to be holding tight on his commitment, but with other offers looming, who knows what he may decide.  One thing the coaching staff can promise Davis is playing time.  Going to a school like an Alabama or an Ohio State will not warrant a lot of playing time.  A 3-star prospect can get buried on the depth chart very quickly.  Davis has a chance to become a shutdown corner and a leader for Syracuse on and off the field.  He could be a big fish in a little pond with the Orange, as opposed to one of many at an SEC school.

Holding this guy will be a huge accomplishment for the Cuse. Hopefully, this young man realizes that playing early…and well for the Cuse is a ticket to the Pro’s….just as it is at any of the other “Big Time Schools”. Look at what happened at Texas this year…..not a player was drafted by the NFL….then a guy from the University of Buffalo, of all places, get’s drafted in the top 10!
Davant Davis…come to the Cuse……a great place to reach your dreams!!!!
You know he’s not going to “fall” for talk about playing time. Any great player believes they are the best and wants to prove it by playing against the best.
The argument we should be making is that he WILL play against the best by playing in the ACC. To make that a true statement, the ACC needs to make sure member schedules are filled with a requisite number of top schools, including SEC teams, year in and year out.
Until the ACC does that, these types of players will always be tempted by offers from better schools and leagues.
Just got home from watching my granddaughters 12U fastpitch softball team take the tournament championship. Really proud of the way the team played this weekend.
@Terry,I just want to say thank you for lumping Connor and I together. I’m proud to have him join the rest of us that live in the world where reality is the norm.
I guess Terry that I’m not the only one that see’s the potential of Mr. Davis. Isn’t he one of the N/R CB’s coming out of Florida? Must be on the same page with the 7 to 10 big time programs that have joined the group for his services. Like I’ve always said the star rating system is nothing but junk and should be thrown on the dump.
On the bright side I want you and the rest of the Fizz Family to have a great Memorial Day. I hope you take a moment to bow your head to say a prayer and give thanks to the veterans of this country and the ones who has given the ultimate sacrifice so that we can continue to have discussions/and disagreements on a public forum.
Hey Cuse fans, a little secret from us down id Dade County lol, the Miami offer has really caught his attention!!!! Believe that.
Honestly UofM is coming back slowly, but ‘Bama is the threat? At the same time, why expect the unexpected.. RT: he’s committed to SU. Until that changes STOP THE CONSPIRACY THEORIES….
Next, we’ll have to worry about Wiconsin and Florida taking the OLs , respectively…LMAO… If they’re committed to the Orange and want to be here, it’ll happen. Every team with any success whatsoever, shares this problem. One player hardly defines a recruiting class.
How far UofM has fallen can be seen many ways!
1. Edwards, NY rb, and spawn-ee of the Orange after HCDM left for Buffalo, the frosh started the ’14 SPRING GAME. SUs 3star leftovers? Lol..
2. Miami chasing nr or 3star recruits is lowly, being excited about it is shameful?
Hey Miami troll, you a fan long enough to remember what we can do? Yeah, must explain your zeal at getting involved with one of our commits. You scared? McD left the U for a reason… Better opportunity. Mr Davis has opportunity to be better. He knows that.
RONNIE Davis is a 3 STAR rated player, not NR!! Its his size that might have SU lose him!! He’s tall and has some heft to him. SU has to many midgets as DB’s now. Big DB’s are a premium now!! I feel SU will definitely lose him!! So a true homer like you RON is your quest. But at the same time your judgments are not always correct!! Mine are not either!! The homer horn you blow at times is high schoolish, but its your right!! And I’ll fight for your right against other non-SU fans for your sometimes silliness!! Your a proud SU fan. I’m a pissed off SU fan most of the time as well as many others out here in this viral world of ours.
No doubt as for MIAMI they will improve!! The trouble with that is do not let SU take the crumbs left over from the Florida schools(all 5 of them). You know that the majority of instate Florida kids will stay there!! I feel if the Florida or other SEC or ACC schools are not interested in them then their quality might be a problem. At times(but maybe not as much now) I feel the staff of SU just likes the name of Florida after a kids name. That can be dangerous!! I’d like the staff look just as hard in California or Texas too!! The distance is as far!! But hell we still got the HCSS factor!! Of the shot gun method of getting interest in SU but none of them(1 maybe) signing!!
DO NOT FORGET THE KIDS OF PSABUSEDU!! THE NCAA DID!!
@Terry;
When I look at the recruiting web page for Syracuse University or Scout.com Devonte Davis is listed on both as a N/R recruit and that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I appreciate the fact that you’ll back my silliness up against non Syracuse fans, and just letting you know I’ve done alright against all comers over the years. We have a lot in common Terry and some of your comments make for serious debate, but when you make comments like”SU has to many midgets as DB‚Äôs”,well that’s when you and I disagree.
Your message has been the same/consistant over the years. You claim to be upset all of the time. You and I are too damn old to wake up in the morning feeling that way. If Syracuse football bothers you that much then I suggest you find another sport or a team like Alabama to support before you end up having a heart attack. Look at one time was just like you, upset with the way things were going and could never figure out how Syracuse could lose an in state recruit to a school like Penn State,Rutgers or Boston College. After reading articles about how the different coaching staffs had shut different parts of the state off and burnt some bridges with the high schools in the south and western parts of the state,is when I figured I needed to calm down that things weren’t going to change.
The thing that’s put us in this situation Terry, was the Board of Trustees hiring of Nancy Cantor who hired Dr. Gross who fired Coach Pasqualoni and hired Greg Robinson let him go and hired Doug Marrone who left and now we have Scott Shafer, who I feel is doing a pretty good job at rebuilding the Orangemen.
In closing Terry, you and I will never agree on everything,we both see things a little differently. That doesn’t make my comments anymore silly than yours is harsh and sometimes hateful. I really do like debating issues with you and have a good time in doing so. I respect all that you and others have to say here,I may not like what is said, but I respect other’s who give different points of view.
Look;remember Terry that not everyone that voices a different opinion or point of view than your’s is wrong. Show some restraint when answering them. It’s Memorial Day,take a chill pill and try and relax. Things are going to work out for us.
RON chill pill you might need one of my Coconut Rum and Cranberry’s!! Homers never change! That’s just the way they are=HOMERS!! Nothing can be critical against their beloved team. Look I get flack all the time about the SUFB program from people in the know-non SUFB fans!! And 90% of the time lately they are right. The program will not get better by gambling on talent. God when was the last 9/10 win season-!! I think during FDR’s reign!! You win with talent first then coaching!! Midget CB/S’s are not in the mold for quality college ball now or let alone the NFL. Yes College ball gets a great player to the NFL. YOU homers are always there and the honest fan just deals with them. During great times and poor times!! That’s OK!! Sports are getting a lot like politics and religion and I know we don’t agree on those either. LOL!!
Rivals has Davis 3 star!! Sorry I back that!!
Hi there! This article couldn‚Äôt be written much better! Looking through this article reminds me of my previous roommate! He continually kept preaching about this. I’ll forward this post to him. Pretty sure he will have a great read. Many thanks for sharing!

Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any tips?
I have read some good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to make such a wonderful informative website.
I know of the fact that these days, more and more people are being attracted to cams and the issue of picture taking. However, being photographer, you must first shell out so much time frame deciding the exact model of video camera to buy along with moving store to store just so you could possibly buy the most affordable camera of the brand you have decided to settle on. But it isn’t going to end just there. You also have to take into account whether you can purchase a digital dslr camera extended warranty. Thanks for the good ideas I received from your web site.
Hi there, just became alert to your weblog thru Google, and located that it’s truly informative. I am going to watch out for brussels. I will be grateful if you happen to continue this in future. Lots of folks might be benefited from your writing. Cheers!
I have taken notice that in digital camera models, specialized sensors help to concentrate automatically. The particular sensors associated with some camcorders change in contrast, while others use a beam associated with infra-red (IR) light, especially in low light. Higher standards cameras at times use a combination of both programs and may have Face Priority AF where the digicam can ‘See’ some sort of face as you concentrate only on that. Thanks for sharing your ideas on this site.
Superb post however I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Thanks!
