Lost in Friday‚Äôs excitement was the Orange’s third commitment of the day.¬† Cody Conway committed to Syracuse Friday¬†afternoon, shortly after teammates¬†Sam Clausman and Colin Byrne pledged their allegiance to the Orange.¬† Conway is supposedly the best prospect of Friday‚Äôs commitments.
All three future Orange play the offensive line.  These three are the first, second, and third 2015 recruits to play the line and are also the recruiting class’s fifth, sixth, and seventh recruits.  Recruiting efforts for the Class of 2015 have really picked up steam in the past few weeks.  The trio will join Davante Davis, Gerald Robinson, Tyrone Perkins, and Jordan Fredericks at SU in the fall of 2015.
While many of the Orange recruits have come from the growing-pipeline of Southern Florida, Conway actually comes from the Midwest.  He attended Plainfield North High School in Plainfield, Illinois.  Conway is a three-star, 6’6”, 280-pound lineman.  The University of Illinois and Rutgers also heavily recruited him.
The Orange originally extended its offer to the tackle in mid-March.  Conway visited the Syracuse University campus this past April prior to announcing his commitment.  He did so via twitter, in which he shared a photo of the Orange’s new uniforms and said:
“Will be wearing these jerseys soon enough.  Verbally comitted [sic] to syracuse [sic]!”
According to Conway, he just had a gut feeling that he wanted to play for Syracuse.  This could be attributed to head coach Scott Shafer’s roots in the Midwest.  The 2014 recruiting class has six players from the state of Illinois alone.  Quarterbacks coach Tim Lester and running back coach DeAndre Smith both have roots in the Midwest, like Shafer.
With the new commitments, Syracuse’s recruiting class has slid up to 53rd best in the nation, and the seventh best in the ACC.  Look for the class to continue to build in the coming weeks, as summer recruiting really starts to gather momentum.

really like these 3 olineman, good size and seem to be bright,strong players. welcome to syracuse university. hopefully we get the construction moving now on the indoor practice facility..
Size is good plus. With the target of 5 OL and now with 3 committed, we can firm up the other two. Hopefully all will make the grade scholastically

This is a great get. Two last year, and now 3 this year, with Mr. Conway being the best regarded, but don’t overlook where the other two are coming from (St. Thomas Aquinas). They have a history of producing some very good players, and it is GREAT to have that pipe reconnected. Mr Rocco Casullo has finally seen that we have a group of honest hard working guys up in Syracuse again. That is big. Just two falls ago we were watching STA play a good one against Don Bosco of NJ in Fla, well it seems they will trek north this September to play Bosco again, this time in Michie Stadium at West Point. Good to get them up north to experience our weather and atmosphere.
Here’s where I think it gets VERY interesting. This past weekend we hosted a couple guys, at least one from NJ on an unofficial that could bring dividends in the way of another triple commit. 3 NJ guys have been talking about going in together and all 3 have an offer from SU. One of them is a CB named Davion Ellison from… Don Bosco. This is a GREAT school to get in with as I have said here many times before. Terry, it is probably between us and… drum roll… Boston College. I told you not to underestimate the Catholic connection!
Anyway, he, RB Dontae Strickland, who I am sure visited and DT David Ryslik are all in communication with each other and were following each other’s visit VERY closly. The apparent holdup is Strickland’s coach is trying ot steer him ot Rutgers, despite the fact that he likes us. Please open the flood(less) gates.
Malone don’t forget about the NJ’s public’s schools too!! After all the talent transfers to those catholic schools year in and out!! Union has some talent to!! Plus what I hear they also have chip on their shoulders considering those “catholic” schools!! I’d prefer that emotion instead of the good boys attitude!!
personnally i beleive schafer is a better coach than flood. once syracuse gets the football facilities under wraps i feel we will be one of the better eastern football schools in the country. i really beleive this coaching staff has the kids best interest at heart.
Sackster, that is exactly why we are in teh driver’s seat for the LB out of MA, Shy. His family seems to be buying into the fact that the coaches have the best interests of the kids in mind. Terry, Union City (different from Union) looks like a good one to keep tabs on and we have an in on the coaching staff. I remember some time back (15 years?) that PSU was hitting that area hard and pulled a starting QB out of Hoboken. I think that area is looking at a resurgance in quality. Union City is the result of two schools coming together and coupled with the kids getting pushed out of Hoboken and Jersey City by the bankers and brokers of NYC, the talent is getting more concentrated. There is no harm in watching the publics at all, but they are more hit and miss.
Malone they(public schools) are hit and miss because they supply the catholic programs with their top tier talent a lot/most of the times!! That does effect your public HSFB team if the best leave. And you can’t blame them either. Better chance to qualify and to be seen. But at the same time that’s why they want to beat those #@&%’s badly and I’m in their corner on that one!!
Right on Terry. Public HS kid here, no love for the recruiting parochials here. My school was able to flip the script with a few others for a few years, but messed it up. They had Toal and let him go because the HC was too full of himself. Now the team is a shadow of its former self.
Malone, HS QB from Hoboken who went to PSU is probably Rashard Casey… He went on to have a ok career at PSU, but nothing spectacular. It was almost 20 years ago…
RON-I think PSABUSEDU also got a verbal from a QB from Jersey City for the class of 2015!!
Malone-I totally remember when you could watch the NYC/LI/NJ HSFB on the NYC networks. The Toal’s were there as well as the others. HSFB from this section of “game of the week” was not weak at all. You don’t see that at all today. The interest level(advertising $$$) are just not there.
@Terry; I’ve always said that there is no way that the people who do the rating,actually go out and see these players play in person. They all set behind a desk somewhere and watch tapes that determines the amout of stars to give.
Based on this statement,it looks like Cody Conway stock is on the rise. Plainfield (IL) Plainfield North offensive lineman Cody Conway gave Syracuse a verbal commitment on Friday. To help Syracuse fans get a better feel for the prospect Rivals.com Midwest recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt broke down the offensive tackles game.
After Mr. Helmholdt finishes with his reevaluation of Conway,could we possibly be getting a 4* OL recruit out of the Midwest? Only time will tell.
Syracuse already has 4-5 QB’s on the team with another one coming in in the fall and is going after one from Illinois and another( I believe) out of Don Bosco Prep in NJ for the class of 2015/2016.
I see that coach Franklin is doing a bang up job recruiting. He has a total of 16 commits,8(4*)and 8(3*) so far this season.
So if Franklin is doing so well at Penn St Terry,how long do you think he’s going to stay before the NFL comes calling?
I feel if Shafer keeps on doing the job that he’s doing,. It’s just a matter of time before Syracuse claws it’s way into that position and reclaims a spot in the national rankings hopefully between the #10-#15 numbers.
I was wondering as to when Coach Bobby Acosta’s name would get mentioned again and who was he going after. here are a couple of names that looks pretty promising.

Devonte Davis’ stock is rising from an N/R recruit to who knows,maybe the possibility of becoming a 4* with the following schools showing interest;Ohio State, Georgia, South Carolina, Illinois, Louisville, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Syracuse is gonna have to become more aggresive if they want to keep this kid a committed recruit.
Interesting isn’t it Terry,after reading yesterday that Cody Conway is being reevaluated and has the possibility of being upgraded to maybe a 4* recruit that we read an article today about one of the CB’s out of Florida that his stcok is rising also.
I think Shafer and McDonald has slapped the pundits in the face and in a way has told them they better start doing their jobs better.
