Barnwell also broke down exactly how Newburgh’s offense found its rhythm after the early turnover battle. “In a way, when we shoot ourselves in the foot a little, it’s like, okay, don’t worry about it, next play,” Barnwell said. “You got to have a next play mentality in football.” He credited the offense’s balance, staying flexible between the run and the pass, for eventually opening up the big plays that broke the game open. “It’s got to be that balance of being able to run it, throw it, and then hit the edges.”
Coach Bianco offered a coach’s-eye view of Barnwell’s performance, praising his game management while pushing for even more. “He managed the game pretty well,” Bianco said, singling out a deep touch throw and a sideline completion to the tight end as highlights. “I think his stats will be even better” once Barnwell starts tucking the ball on longer down-and-distance situations instead of forcing a throw, Bianco added, a sign the coaching staff already sees more untapped upside in their quarterback even after a 42-6 win.
