When Robert Washington decomitted from Syracuse on Sunday, it was surely a blow but cannotРor at least should notРcome as a great shock to Syracuse fans. His initial commitment  to the Orange should have been an indication that he was not 100% sure of where he wanted to go as he initially committed to the Florida Gators only to change his mind.

Well, now the worst has happened. Washington has once again changed his mind over where he wants to go to school. Fans can point their fingers in all directions. Washington may just be indecisive, an attribute that shouldn’t be all that surprising given the fact he is eighteen. Recent reports suggest the reason for his decomittment may be Syracuse’s running back coach, DeAndre Smith, who kept in contact with Robert Washington’s father despite the players wishes.

None of this matters. What matters is the Orange have lost out on their highest-touted recruit in recent memory. Obviously, this is a significant blow, but it is not time to panic.

In addition to Washington, the Orange had been able to secure verbal commitments from some important recruits, including QB Rex Culpepper and Athlete Moe Neal. Quarterback has certainly been an uncertain position the past couple of seasons since the departure of Ryan Nassib. Culpepper will add to the long list of young quarterbacks who will have a shot to lead the Orange offense.

Neal, who is friends with Washington and still expected to honor his verbal commitment despite Washington’s decision, has the ability to carry the ball and he may be used as a running back now that Washington is no longer committed. Washington was told he would be the only running back in the class of 2016, but now the Orange have the chance to either use Neal at the position or go out and sign another running back.

There is still plenty of time left in the recruiting cycle. The Orange are expected to sign anywhere from three to six more players so there is ample opportunity to address any holes left by Washington’s decomittment.
