Last week Syracuse reeled in three 2016 commits: Florida quarterback Rex Culpepper, Georgia defensive back Will Harper and Florida safety Scoop Bradshaw (Culpepper and Bradshaw are high school teammates). These were Syracuse’s first commitments since Robert Washington chose SU in April.
So what’s next for Orange football? Here are six names to keep in mind as Syracuse continues on the recruiting trail.
Devon Clarke – Clarke, a safety, lives in Florida. He initially committed to Oregon State in March but then reopened his recruitment in May when more Division I offers came in. He has a solid relationship with Syracuse tight ends coach Jake Moreland and wants to visit the Hill in the future. He says right now, the Orange is his top school.
Jamal Holloway – Holloway is a defensive end from New Jersey who visited Syracuse a couple of weeks ago. The Orange is trying to beef up on defense in the 2016 class and Holloway is definitely a target. Penn State has dominated New Jersey recruiting lately, but the Nittany Lions are yet to offer Holloway. This one could come down to Syracuse and Rutgers.
Solomon Manning – Manning wants to verbally commit to a school soon. The New Jersey linebacker planned to make a collegiate decision by Monday morning, but after attending (and enjoying) Syracuse’s camp on Saturday he might need to take some more time before giving a verbal.
Martin Mangram – Syracuse already has one Georgia commit in its 2016 class, safety Will Harper. The program wants to make it two with Mangram. The cornerback has offers from Iowa, Illinois and Northwestern. Syracuse can definitely compete with those schools.
Sean McKeon – The Massachusetts tight end released a top five Sunday and Syracuse made the cut along with Michigan, Virginia, BC and Pitt.
Jack Brotzki – Brotzki, a two star quarterback from Syracuse, only has one collegiate offer and it’s from the Orange. Jack’s father Bob works for SU athletics. Brotzki’s commitment seems like a matter of when, not if.

Conner thanks for the information on the latest recruits that might come to Syracuse. I hope I don’t side with TEBOW here but you haven’t mentioned any of the big time recruits that Shafer and company were going after earlier out of NJ. So what about recruits Tyler Thompson,Hasise DuBois,Will Fries,Emmanuel Appiah,Tyreek Williams,Sal Mauro,Thomas Lopez,Kevin Harmon,Donald Stewart,KJ Gray,Noah Ellison,Gene Coleman and Kolton Huber. Has the coaching staff realized that we don’t have a chance of landing these players and have moved on? How about giving us some information on these players.
When Robert Washington verbaled it was reported that we had a chance of getting these players,Dwayne Haskins,Christian Colon,Mow Neal,
Will Eason,Fred Hasnard,Jared Mayden,Gene Coleman,DJ Daniels,Thomas Lopez,Jake Fuzak,Kenny Yeboah,Chima Dunga,Carter McLellan and Clifton Duck, So what’s up with these players? Have we forgotten all of them? Can you give us any information on any of these players?
TEBOW,I combined the two articles that were written earlier about some of the recruits that Syracuse was/were after. There are approximately 6-7 4* athletes,some top of the line 3* athletes and one or two 2* athletes listed. That’s why I mentioned about three weeks ago that this could be the best class since the 1959 National Championship team to ever play here at Syracuse. I’m starting to worry a little and beginning to wonder if the media is blowing smoke up our a$$es or what the hell is going on. From I what I’m reading Syracuse is going after some really big/important recruits and I also know it’s not over until national signing day in February. But damn for me it gets a little disappointing at times.
Well I guess Solomon Manning won’t be playing for the Orange. According to an anrticle posted on syr.com Shafer rejected Mannings verbal and pulled his scholorship offer. So he won’t be coming to syracuse to play.
Well it looks like we lost another(3* TE Sean McKeon)recruit to Michigan. I wonder if the Michigan Fans are crying in the papers and on local websites about Coach Harbaugh wasting a scholarship on a 6’5″ 235 lb TE from Massachusetts?
Our fans/sports writers led by a person named TEBOW would have yelled a little louder for Shafer to get fired for wasting a scholarship on a 3* athlete that couldn’t play the game good enough to be an Orangeman.

Ron, I saw that report today on Manning and McKeon committed to Michigan as well. As for those other players, I haven’t heard much about them from my Syracuse people, but will definitely let you know if there are any developments.
Connor,After reading a post on a different website I come to the conclusion that maybe Solomon Manning problem over the weekend was he didn’t show enough enthusiasm or maybe his demeanor or his ability to communicate to play for Syracuse wasn’t strong enough for Shafer and Shafer pulled a verbal non-committal on him forcing him to sign with Rutgers on Monday.
I also found out that Syracuse and Shafer has a total of 107 offers out to recruits. I hope that Shafer hasn’t gotten to a point that he figures he can pick and choose who might pick Syracuse based on their personalities. I honestly believe that both Solomon Manning and Sean McKeon would have been great additions to the team. I wish them both well over the next 3-5 years.
Connor,Syracuse has made strides into NJ trying to recruit the best the state has to offer. I’ve been told(ths morning)that solomon Manning is rated the #1 line backer in the state. If that’s true then why did Shafer and company back off of Manning when he was ready to commit? Something stinks here and I think it should be investagated and the story about the university pulling back on it’s offer to Manning should be posted for all to read so it helps the fans realize what some of the main problems are when recruiting a player.
Ron..yes I believe I seen Manning was the number 14 player and #1 LBer in the state according to the Newark SL and other rating systems! Anyway he was too good and QUALIFIED to pass on after being so high on him!?! Maybe their were mitigating factors we haven’t been privy too?
