When¬†Kenterius Womack¬†committed to Syracuse last week, he was a total unknown. He had released a¬†highlight tape¬†which caught the attention of offensive line coach Joe Adam. The Orange coaches moved quickly and went to Luverne, Alabama to visit the QB. While in Luverne, the coaches convinced Womack to visit the Hill later that week. He came up to Syracuse, liked the family nature of the program and ended up committing. Most colleges missed on him because Luverne is such a small, rural place. But incredibly, his high school head coach is Mike DuBose, the former head coach at Alabama. Yes, the Crimson Tide (’97-’00).
Womack is fascinating. Scott Shafer believes the Orange found a true gem, and have a smart kid, and a great athlete coming. Womack throws a nice deep ball and is very quick. But there still isn’t too much information on him, so The Fizz turned to Luverne high school assistant Andre Parks for more analysis.
Parks on his former quarterback still being awestruck about his whole situation, “He hasn’t really had to time to kind of catch his breath and really take in the magnitude of what’s really happened for him over the past couple of days because we’re talking about… going from having no offers to probably having 60 offers and being contacted probably by over 100 schools within a weeks time.”
Parks on Womack’s play-making ability:¬†‚ÄúThe first things you see when you look at his highlight film is his mobility. He‚Äôs a guy that‚Äôs very‚Ķagile; he‚Äôs got super speed and quickness.‚Äù
¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†On Womack’s passing game,¬†‚ÄúWhen you look closer, he‚Äôs also a very capable passer. He throws for a very high completion percentage; he‚Äôs got a strong arm. He can throw the quick game; he throws the deep ball well. He does an outstanding job of reading coverages.‚Äù
            How prepared will Womack be for the Orange’s offense? “Mike Dubose, whose the former coach of Alabama, was our head coach here; he brought in the spread system that we run now which is a very complex system that a lot of colleges are running now…[Womack’s] intelligence and his passing ability is what separates him from the other mobile quarterbacks that are out there.”

Going to be interesting…….last summer I was ticked off when Edouard didn’t show.
But now we have two QBs…both VERY bright it seems. One a pocket passer with SOME mobility(Dungey)
and Womack quick as lightning seemingly more oriented toward running a spread offense.
To me it looks like Lester will have something to work with after Hunt leaves, assuming a winning season
and Shafer et al survive….we’ll see said the blind man….

I agree “orangeinva”,next year is going to very interesting indeed. After this year Terrell is gone (finally)and it leaves Syracuse with still a QB situation unsolved. We’re going to have Austin Wilson (if he doesn’t transfer out) AJ Long with freshmen Kenterius Womack and Eric Dungey coming to town. Leaves questions for us to ask. a) will coach Shafer decide early as to who the starting QB will be? b) will Austin Wilson transfer out at the end of next season? c) will Wilson stay healthy? d) AJ Long is too small to play QB,will shafer ands crew switch him to another position? e) and we have the unknowns in Eric Dungey and Kenterius Womack !!!!!
I haven’t watched the tapes on Kenterius Womack and have read only what people who have watched them have written and everyone is up beat about the kid. I find it funny that after Syracuse discovered him and made an offer that 60 other programs then offered the kid. Must be something there that deserved the interest from the other schools. Maybe just maybe this Kenterius Womack is the long term answer that we all have been waiting for.
Now all we need is for the critics at ESPN and the Syracuse local media to stop reporting that our program isn’t worth the paper that their articles are printed on and keep their thoughts to themselves.
MIABoy,I’m just repeating what his high school coaches are telling everyone. I mean I think they know the number of schools that indicated interest and offered him scholarships better than any of us that wasn’t involved with the kid. Don’t you?
