Of all of the concerns regarding the Syracuse offense last season, possibly the greatest among them was the inexperience at the quarterback position.  When Terrell Hunt went down with an injury early in the season it fell to two inexperienced quarterbacks, A.J. Long and Austin Wilson, to pick up the slack.  Now the Orange will add another QB to the mix in Eric Dungey.

Dungey, a three-star recruit out of Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon, committed to the Orange after visiting in November of 2014.  He will add to the growing group of quarterbacks that the Orange will have at their disposal.  There are rumors of Syracuse adding a quarterback through a transfer.

While some may feel that the Orange may be overloading on quarterbacks, this could prove to be beneficial in the near and long-term future.  If Schaffer and his staff can figure out a clear depth chart prior to the start of the season, there is no downside to having several quarterbacks on the roster.

It allows for the growth and development of quarterbacks as they observe the starter, and if, like this season, the Orange are plagued by injuries they will have plenty of options to turn to.  Dungey will have a chance to learn under the likes of Long and Wilson this year.

Dungey will fit right into the Syracuse system, as he, like Hunt, is a dual-threat quarterback.  He threw for 2,200 yards and 21 touchdowns while running for over 800 yards and 14 touchdowns.  This reflects a style of play very similar to that of Terrell Hunt but is a change from the style of A.J. Long, who is the front-runner for the starting job next year.

Whether or not Syracuse adds a transfer quarterback, Erick Dungey will be able to find a role at Syracuse.  Most teams are in constant search of depth at the quarterback position because it is so crucial to success.  With Dungey, the Orange adds to their depth under center.
