The second season of the Scott Shafer has come to a sour end.
Syracuse fell to Boston College 28-7, Saturday at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill. The Orange finish the season 3-9, its worst record since 2008. It gave up a touchdown on a kickoff return, allowed BC into the end zone instead of settling for FGs, and were chasing the game all day. There was also a scrum which highlighted the frustration of this SU team all season.
Like it has been for the majority of the season, the Orange was unable to put anything together on the offensive side of the ball, largely because Syracuse had three different starting quarterbacks throughout the season and it saw a number of injuries to key players. While AJ Long scrambled into the end zone for the lone SU score, once again it was just not enough production from the attack.
For Orange fans, this is a season to forget. The focus has shifted to next season, ensuring that this year’s errors and mistakes do not happen again.¬†AJ Long showed promising signs of success as a true freshman. He proved to be able to throw accurately at times, but not enough. His season completion percentage was about 55 percent and with a number of starts under his belt, he should be ready to handle the plays next season as a sophomore.
The bottom line is this: put this season away. Look ahead to the changes to come next year.

I’ve been following Syracuse Football for a long time and consider this season to be one of the worst ever, achieving a 3-9 record is not going to do it in the ACC. I wonder why Syracuse has struggled over the last 4-5 years and when I read articles telling me that back in 2009 we had 4 recruits from Wisconsin who came to Syracuse for an official visit and loved what they saw,the 4 decided to attend the University of Wisconsin.
The 4 players that made the visit were RB Melvin Gordon and three of his team mates Trae Waynes,John Stevens and Gino DeBartolo. The reason for their decision was that while here Coach Marrone and his staff didn’t have time to set and have a discussion with any of them while they were here. Amazing.
The reason I mentioned this is RB Melvin Gordon is considered to be the front runner to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy. As time passes and the more I find out about Doug Marrone’s screw ups the more happier I become now that he’s left the university.
I got into a heated discussion with another member(Terry)about a RB out of Baldwinsville High School player(Tyler Rouse) who was the NYS Gator Aid Player of the Year in 2012. I’ve read way too many articles about the coaching staffs ignoring the talent within the state and I feel they need to do a better job going after this kids and doing a better job evaluating these kids and most of all once on campus for a visit take the damn time to talk with them.
As bad as this season has been,I’m not giving up yet. I believe starting next year things will start to turn around. This senior class is all Doug Marrones recruits and I feel he saw the writing on the wall and was the reason for his departure.
Changing the subject,
Let’s all give the womens basketball team a big heart felt JOB WELL DOWN by almost beating the #1 South Carolina on Saturday. Syracuse out played SC for 38 minutes leading by as many as 10 points in the game and couldn’t hang onto the lead with 2 minutes left in the game and lost 67-63. The loss gives them a 4-1 overall record to date. I expect big thing to happen this year. Congratulation Ladies.
As we all know the mens basketball team won on Saturday improving their record to 5-1 for the season.
The womens Ice Hockey team split a double header with Lindenwood over the weekend with the two teams tied for 2nd place in CHA play.
