Just over 40 college quarterbacks attended the prestigious Manning Passing Academy over the weekend. Syracuse football’s starting quarterback Terrel Hunt made an appearance.
The 6’3”, 233-pound gunslinger posted a photo on his Instagram account this past Thursday to share the news about his trip to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The academy is annually operated by Peyton and Eli Manning, as well as their father, Archie.
Obviously this is great exposure for the SU program. Hunt served as one of the camp counselors alongside a handful of top colleges QBs, including 7 from the SEC. This provides an awesome recruiting tool here, too. 
What’s even more intriguing is Hunt was one of just four ACC programs to get the nod to head down to Louisiana. Duke’s Anthony Boone, North Carolina’s Marquis Williams and Heisman Trophy winner, Florida State national champion, Jameis Winston, were all in the house. A bit premature to say Hunt is amongst the crème of the crop in the ACC?
This certainly creates some excitement for SU fans that in hindsight, Hunt may be considered a “Top 5” conference quarterback. The Manning Academy is no joke and to receive an invite is a huge honor.
Hunt isn’t the only Orange QB to have participated in the academy. Ryan Nassib’s longtime backup Charlie Loeb bested some of the nation’s finest like USC’s Matt Barkley back in 2012. No offense to Charlie, but look how that turned out. He became a lonely island at Syracuse.
Chris Singleton of the Houma Courier Newspaper tweeted this past Friday how Hunt struggled getting used to the heat. The opportunity and competition probably shaded the heat away for the most part. The results from the weekend have not been posted yet, but Hunt’s adjustment to the heat wave certainly stood out. 
An event like this only elevates Hunt’s maturity level. He enters what hopes to be a “turning point” season for Syracuse. Ten touchdowns to 8 interceptions last year and 1,638 passing yards are simply the numbers. The QB he’s capable of being goes beyond the stats.
He took over for Drew Allen a quarter of the way into the season, so he rose to that challenge. Hunt also completed three game-winning, fourth-quarter drives for the Orange. Clearly he’s got quick instincts and the ability to work hard on the fly. Attesting these qualities in front of the Manning Family can only make him ten times better.
As he said in IG post, “Take full advantage of your opportunities!”¬†Let‚Äôs hope it all translates at training camp come August.

Is Hunt going to progress, stay the same or get worse? We will see. Lets see how the Line plays, and running game goes. Let’s also see what these wrs can do. Broyld has to be a lot better and Esteem has to play really good. Theres a lot of things that can determine Hunts season. Other players can easily affect it. But going to these camps can surely help.
I think the line and the running game will be good; that said, the key for passing success will be a much improved WR and tight end productivity. We desperately need a big play wideout. I do not think Broyld is that downfield target we need, Esteem has the potential to be a great slot receiver if people on the outside can emerge.
In all honesty, I am looking for the true freshman Ishmael to break out and be that player! I have not seen that Mike Williams type ability from any of our incumbent wideouts!!

It’s nauseating reading all of the articles printed in the local papers and on other sports website’s their anoitment of Terrel Hunt as the starting QB in 2014 for the Orangemen.
Austin Wilson and Mitch Kimble realizing their dream of leading a Div I football team is getting closer by the day. Fall practices start in a couple of weeks. I hope they’re ready, because one of those two will take the job away from Terrel before the season is over. The first four games of the season will determine the starting QB. Stay tuned everyone,things are starting to heat up for the orangemen.

I don’t have enough knowledge/access as Ron, but I am less than impressed with Hunt. I hope he is right and one of these kids can play. Cuse has to be a running team. I think the O line and running game can keep us in a lot of games.
Big question mark at WR and Hunt is no Nassib. Anything over 6-6 would be a good outcome.

I’m just an ordinary every day fan that’s followed Syracuse Football since 1959. I’m basing my opinions on what I’ve witnessed last year and what I’ve gained from talking to some of the players and getting their feedback as to who we should be watching at QB. I’ve talked with one of the QB’s parents that give’s me hope that their son would be leading the team. I guess were all going to have to wait and see what developes after fall practice.
Remember now after the bowl game coach Shafer made a statement that he wasn’t about to anoit Terrell Hunt as #1 at anything. I know that Terrel looked good in the spring game but from where I was setting,Wilson and Kimble were the only ones getting the ball down field to the receivers. Those bubble screens are not going to do it for Syracuse this year.
I might be looking at the QB situation through tunnel vision,but I just don’t see Terrel making it through the season. The other side of the coin is “I COULD BE WRONG”,been there and done that.
The start of the season would have to really be going bad for either of those two to unseat Hunt!!.It really is all about winning…..and you can win ugly..and you can lose pretty. I see the Cuse relying on a strong running game and winning like last year with Hunt not making a lot of mistakes and grinding it out.
Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see an explosive aerial attack‚Ķ..but unless we find some receivers, I don’t see it happening, and if we are winning, why replace Hunt?

Everyone is predicting Syracuse to go 3-1 at the start of the season. I think people are getting over confident and think that the orangemen will steamroll the first three opponents Villanova,Central Michigan and Maryland and heading into the Notre Dame game at 3-0.
I honestly feel that those first three games are going to be a lot tougher for the orangemen than what people are thinking about them today. I don’t see a blowout in any of them.
I realize it’s going to be a battle,but I did predict Syracuse to win the first four games of the season.
Ron is right and others too!! Hunt just is not an DIV 1 QB. Heat got to him down there-WHAT!! Another bad sign for him. He has no real down field long pass touch. But most of all he does not have the mental game as well. In todays modern CFB a running game is not going to do it. Balance is always mentioned and right so. but FSU won the NC through the air.
DO NOT FORGET THE KIDS OF PSABUSEDU!! THE NCAA DID!!
mmmmmm i don’t know guys, i like hunt but we’ll see. kimble and wilson are about another year away personnally even though i liked the way they played in the spring game. i don’t care as long as we win and go bowling again.. look out for funderburke.
The invite is noteworthy, but not enough to make a declaration about where Hunt stands in the ACC. But anytime you get a chance to be around pro qbs…and even contemporaries there is an opportunity to learn and get better.
Time will tell as far as Hunt goes. I like his frame and he has some athleticism. His progression as a passer will coincide with improved play from the wr and te position as Doc said. He probably won’t be trying to fling it down the field alot so it will be incumbent upon the pass catchers to take the short stuff and be productive. Perhaps PTG and GM will be getting some opportunities out of the backfield. If a guy can break out and be a playmaker, then a guy like Hunt will have better numbers. Ideally, you’d like to see Estime become the guy who can take those short passes and turn them into big gains, while Broyld becomes a legit nfl prospect at wr. He has the size and athleticism just needs the concentration and focus to catch balls consistently. If those two guys do their thing then a third guy can probably thrive much like West did when he had Lemon and Sales producing ahead of him. All in All I am a Hunt supporter. I just don’t see him as the guy who will just step into the game and win on arm talent alone. I think at his maximum potential he can be an effective/efficient qb who can help us win games with a combination of running and efficient passing. In conjunction with a legit rushing attack, maybe Hunt can get a few chances to uncork a few downfield. Kobena has shown the speed to get deep but like many of his cohorts no consistency. So as a few guys have stated, maybe a young guy can impress in camp and unseat the upperclass guys.
I know that over the last couple of weeks that you’ve taken your lumps from everyone.

Ron and others!! Look we have are own agendas when it comes to the SU fandom thing about SUFB. Ron the homer mostly very protective. Russ, Malone, cuse17,Dr Bill, BK SU FB fan and etc.(I hope I didn’t piss any one off not mentioning your tag)are sensible(yes I said tongue in cheek) and homers to a point, but they make sense too. That brings in me!! As with my kids and grand kids I want the best for them that they earn them selves! period!! My biggest complaint is the SUFB program lacks major bling nationally but worse at the home area of the NE let alone the SYRACUSE area! That’s from the winning ways of the SUBB program to lack of a kick in the pants from the right person or organization. That’s me!! Some important eyes (I hear) look here no doubt too. Nationally as well. My PSABUSEDU lines get attention from the outside so I know that to. I don’t care and will always be SUFB # 1. If SU has certain issues and I mention and it stings their behinds so be it. They stung me with a poor program the last decade. 6-6 is not major college football. JB would be tarred and feathered if that’s the case he had losing records then only back to back .500 seasons!! Enough already!!
Ron tailgating on the hill is one the worse in all CFB!! Go to other major Uni’s you’ll see that. Its mainly because of the hill and I understand that. But NO ONE wants to committee up and find the proper tail gate party atmosphere. That hurts the program period. After all part of a great game experience is the tailgating!!

One of the greatest tailgating experiences that I’ve ever had was with a bunch of strangers and my three sons out at the University of Akron. Parking lot was full of Orangefans and some as far away as Texas were there. Orange tents,flags flying everywhere,beer,rack of ribs,shrimp,salads,televisions,people who knew football all made for a wonderful time.
Oh!,and their stadium wasn’t very large maybe holding 30,000 but it was a really nice open stadium to watch a game in.

Are you in college yet or are you going to be a senior this year in high school?
The Orange Fan from Texas that I was talking about get’s on facebook and tells everyone that’s interested that he’s going to buy a group of tickets and will bring enough food and drink for those who sign up and buy’s a ticket from him and helps him pay for the food that he brought. He travels and set’s up shop no matter where Syracuse plays a game and has a large following that enjoys his hospitality.
I can’t remember his name,but I did see him in action at the Akron game.
I do agree with all thhe ideas you have presented for your post.
