Unfortunately, the Orange was not able to reel in a very talented and highly sought after defensive standout. DE Jake Pickard announces on Twitter that he’s chosen Wisconsin. Of course, in the aftermath of the KJ Williams situation every Orange fan knows that verbal commitments are never the end of the road – and even when signature hits paper on the LOI, there’s things that can pop up.
But Pickard is a highly skilled coming off the edge, especially at his size of 6’5″, 235 pounds. Virginia, Oregon and Nebraska were also coveting the pass rusher. He’s also extremely coordinated and agile, so much so that some schools like Rutgers and BC were offering him a chance to play TE.
There are other DE’s the Orange now has to focus on. Pickard hails from Milburn, NJ so it was a big-time recruit in SU’s backyard, and some thought it had come down to SU and Wisconsin. But Pickard chose the Badgers and will set his sights on the Big 10.

DE’s!! What you talking about. SU needs a quality TE. This doesn’t surprise me. SU got a verbal from another TE type so can you blame him.
WTF!!!! PSABUSEDU is crying the blues about sanctions. Bull bleep crap!! USC has given up a hell a lot more. What in the hell is going on here???? I guess $$$$ and USC is a bigger blight than child anal rape at PSABUSEDU. We all know Joe Pa knew it so didn’t the administration and yet they feel they got wacked too hard. Poor players to they got to pay the piper. To #%@&ing bad!! They had a chance to leave and most didn’t. Child rape can never have a price on it!! But I guess the NCAA feels it does. No wonder the NCAA is in its final days!! Don’t let them get away with this. The reason for their punishment is because the suckers DID IT!!

Whether SU was recruiting Pickard as a DE or TE it didn’t matter. It would be good to land another quality player form NJ. What does matter is that Big10 teams are reaching into NJ for 3* players. Now that Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Michigan get the 5* NJ players, Penn State gets the 4* NJ players and several teams are scratching for the 3* players. SU has landed a few of late which is encouraging. SU would have had more competition with Ginetti or Guidice had they played their HS ball in NJ. Fortunately that was not the case.

I don’t think the recruiting efforts of NJ recruits by Syracuse University is over with yet. I feel good thing are yet to come and I also know that you win some and you lose some,you have to play the game and move on. Just remember there is always a tomorrow and you have to start a new.
Syracuse isn’t done yet,practice starts on Saturday and recruiting is going to pick up again.
I think we have a legit shot at Ryslick in NJ, which might give us a better shot at Sheppard in NYC. Robinson seems to be reconsidering and says he will visit in August. Ellison is still out there as the guy most believe to be the silent verbal. We are in the mix with Fox, but I don’t feel great about it. There is also Anthony McKee, a 4* LB from Ohio who is interested in us.
