Almost a year and a half after SU announced plans to build a new football facility, construction on the building is just about to begin. The athletic department announced last week that they can now legally begin building. The facility is not expected to be finished until at least midway through this upcoming season.
The football program has needed its own practice facility for some time now. Scott Shafer’s team usually practices on outdoor fields or in the Carrier Dome. This can cause problems late in the season when there is inclement weather and the Dome is being used for basketball. The team used to have to practice at a smaller field under these conditions, but the new building will solve this problem.
Syracuse is widely regarded as a basketball school first and foremost. With this investment however, the SU athletic department is trying to bridge the gap between the programs and change public perception.
This facility should have a positive impact on football recruiting for the Orange. The basketball program has the $19 million Carmelo K. Anthony Center to wow recruits. SU football has never had anything like that, but will now have a comparable building when the $17 million facility officially opens its doors.
Spending big bucks on a practice facility is an important part of the football team’s ongoing rebuilding process. To truly compete in the ACC, teams need a solid coach (which SU has) and top-level facilities to draw interest from the best recruits. The Dome is Syracuse’s spectacle, but this facility will also go a long way for the team as the program continues its smooth transition from Marrone to Shafer.

You guys need to read your own comments section. The facility is not $17 million and it does not look like that 2 year old rendering above. That said, it should help with recruiting, as you mentioned. HCSS tweeted pictures of the progress this morning. Earthwork should begin in earnest this coming week.
Manley was originally thought to become the “practice field that football needed. It too became the home court for the basketball team. It was unde Fred Lewis that the basketball program began to rise with his recruiting Dave Bing and others that captivated the fans in Syracuse and has now become a national known program under Jim Boeheim’s guidance. The Dome has been the predominant piece of all this for the university.
Big news today: A Jersey priority RB recruit, Strickland , has committed. He is one of the top recruits in Jersey. Congratulations to Coach Acosta for making an impact in Jersey in a short period..Go Cuse.
I hope all the negativity about this staff and it’s ability to recruit dies. You have to be blind to not see that the recruiting done by Shafer and his staff, is better than it has been in a long time!!! When the product on the field improves……our recruiting will continue to rise….

3* 6’0″ 180 lb Rb Dontae Strickland out of (South Brunswick HS) Monmouth Junction, NJ committed to the Orangemen on Saturday. That’s fantastic news kiddo and I don’t care how anyone spins it. I’m hoping with Dontae committing today that the other three CB Davion Ellison out of Don Bosco Prep,CB Dwon Walker and LB Jordon Fox both out of St Peter’s Prep (Jersey City) follows him to Syracuse.
Coach Bobby Acosta seems to be working his charm/magic with these kids . Head and shoulders above anything Rob Moore had accomplished.

A $20.8 million dollar payday,the IPF building is getting build,Bobby Acosta got a top RB recruit from the state of NJ to commit and oh yes,my 12 year old granddaughter is playing for their 2nd championship this summer.

Ron.I think Ellison goes wherever Stickland went!?! New’s in NJ hes going to Cuse if grades are up to snuff…i think hes about 5’6” or 7″ though but so was Ray Rice 5’8″!!
You got a good player congrats. I’m actually glad to see you get the kid and it just guarantees you Ellison also. Truth is that RU didn’t woo him like he thought they would. We were not recruiting him when we had Saquon Barkley and we about to get a commitment from Snorweah but Barkley flipped to State Penn. Tae-Strick basically gave RU the finger when we tried to wiggle back in there. In my opinion, we had stars in our eyes with some better running backs, failed to keep one and only got back at Strickland because you guys where gaining steam. I’m not mad because RB are all over the place. The writing was on the wall. You beat us for this kid so I say congrats Cuse. It won’t happen again lol

It’s nice to hear from you again. When you make statements like “It won‚Äôt happen again” I have to disagree.
Your other comments about Rutgers not wooing the players and giving others the shaft job only tells me that we have a chance of getting players that want to play for a quality program and have coaches that care about them when they’re there.
Coach Shafer and staff are over looked and under appreciated by all the pundits. I’m sure that other’s like Schiano,Flood and Franklin tell all the recruits not to bother with Syracuse because of the coaching staff. I figured it was just a matter of time before recruits realized that he was honest and always speaks the truth and really cares about and treats the players as family. With Dontae Strickland committing to the Orange will show others from the state just how good a place Syracuse University is to play football at. Syracuse is currently recruiting between 15-20 recruits out of NJ,I’m sure Dontae’s decision will open some eyes and help othewrs make the right choice and come to Syracuse.
You know the old addage “all’s fair in love and war”. I wish at times Syracuse would revert to using some of the tactics other schools use,but I know that they won’t. I’m just as happy with the staff treating the recruits with honesty and genuine feelings about joining the “Syracuse Family”. I think give Shafer another year recruiting and all will know how serious he is and how powerful he’s become. Things are looking real good at Syracuse.

I apologize Russell for stealing your thunder. When I got home lastnight I went to the Troy Nunes website and big headlines told me that we got another verbal from a big time RB out of NJ. I think I mentioned it to you in an e-mail that was sent a week or two ago. With Dontae committing,I hope he brings his 3 friends with him. Boy that would shock the(Northeastern) football world wouldn’t it?
Honestly, Syracuse is a better fit for Dontae!!!

I’ll believe the new facility when I see it! The idea that the City could hold up the University for a year and a half over a storm drain is a joke! The University can get done whatever it damn pleases. In this case it didn’t damn please and the City was a convienent story.
From where we usually sit those ranking of our recuiting class are pretty impressive …we’ll see??
Everyone remember.. The days of the Big East Conference shares is over. The ACC coming that close to SEC payouts is great news…the difference.. SEC schools pump the money back into their programs! They get it..they don’t see it as a revenue stream to support Social Programs. The “witch” is dead but the bullshit lingers.

Dr bill-I wouldn’t call it negativity I call it gambling on talent at times!! If you hit it right you have a winning season. If you don’t hit it right you struggle like SU has in the last 2 years. Nearly a below .500 team!! Verbal’s to SU without a visit to SU is troubling at times. The classes are improving yearly. 6-6 seasons are not what you can build on always but HCSS and his staff are so congrades to them. Cuse17 you are way off base on the IPF. The city held it up and brought in the army corps of engineers to help fight their battle. The school has no autonomy. The city hates that they pay so little in taxes. Earth gets broken this week.
Strickland is a great get and help open doors. Ellison is not his teammate, and that’s a good thing in this case. He’s a Don Bosco kid and that’s a school we want in with, as they have a NJ top 5 kid almost every year. Davis may not come back, but Strickland might sway Kelly, and Ellison may help bring Ryslik and Fox. I think we have moved on from D’Won Walker, which might have helped with Fox.
I’m finally seeing NJ light(which we NEED)at the end of the Lincoln Tunnel lol to be the best we can be…beating out RU/BC is the best/right way..NJ is where our bread and butter is as Malone,Ron and I have been saying for yrs!! HCSS and AC Acosta..get the Jersey ball rolling and wins will follow!! Lots of good news Ron..I may even get to a gam(if you take me lol) this year ha ha..looking up

Russell, at least one of my sons and I are going to the Boston College game this year. Never been there and I want to go to a place that I’ve never been to enjoy a beat down of BC by Syracuse. As the game gets closer and your interested in going lewt me know and we’ll make the plans ok. Devante Davis decommitted last week from syracuse. I don’t think we’ve lost him yet. I think after he goes out and takes a look at other schools he’ll change his mind and come back to the CUSE and when that happens it just might be too late for him.
