Syracuse currently has three verbal commits for the 2015 high school class. They are running back Tyrone Perkins from Locust Valley, New York; running back Jordan Fredericks from Cedarhurst, New York; and cornerback Gerald Robinson from Hialeah, Florida.
Tyrone Perkins is a 6’0’’, 190-pound speedster who ran for over 1,000 yards in his junior season at Friends Academy in Long Island. As a recruit, he flew extremely under the radar. No major recruiting site had Perkins ranked at the time of his commitment. The only Division I schools to show interest in him were Syracuse, Fordham, UConn and Boston College. SU was the only school to offer Perkins a scholarship early on in the recruiting process and he returned the favor with his commitment. In addition to his success on the gridiron, Perkins also stars on the basketball court.
5’10’’, 195-pound Jordan Fredericks will join Perkins in the SU backfield two seasons from now. Read the Fizz’s reaction to Fredericks’s recruitment and our breakdown of his play here.
With these additions Syracuse is addressing the lack of experience they will have at running back in two years’ time. Jerome Smith graduates later this month and Prince Tyson-Gulley will graduate a year from now. That leaves just Devonte McFarlane and George Morris II as the only rushers left on the squad when Perkins and Fredericks come to town. Despite each player‚Äôs lack of big-name offers, Perkins and Fredericks will be given opportunities by Scott Shafer because of Syracuse‚Äôs shortage of rushers. Whether these chances emerge during their freshman seasons remains to be seen. Right now, however, these two, along with 2014 recruit¬†Ervin Phillips, are the running backs of the future.
Finally, 3-star recruit Gerald “Bubba” Robinson is Syracuse’s first defensive 2015 recruit. The 5’11’’, 170-pound cornerback was recruited more heavily than his other fellow commits. Robinson had offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, UCF and Utah before deciding to commit to Syracuse. In a tweet, Robinson credited SU offensive coordinator George McDonald as being the deciding factor.
It’s always difficult to determine if a recruit in the secondary has any shot of playing as an underclassman. The Orange usually shies away from this (even Durell Eskridge redshirted as a freshman) but Keon Lyn, Brandon Reddish and Julian Whigham did all see some time in their freshman seasons. If Robinson impresses, he will play.

Pointless article. Come on guys, you can do better than that! A closer look should mean I am going to learn something more about these recruits. Recruiting news spikes my interest and this article disappointed me. Tell me more about recruits taking a hard look at our program. What about Richie Kittles or the RB from Sasche HS in TX.

Wow, I finally agree with Terry!…Not a very good article. I would love to hear more about our recruiting board going forward. I would like to hear about the benefits of our current recruiting emphasis: Midwest/Florida/Georgia versus our desire to get back into our old territories like NJ and NY.
Lol not to heap on the pile but football starved SU fans are craving some of the sizzle that our counterparts in other parts of the country get during the offseason. So if you can try to get a little more detail when it comes to the evaluations so us information starved football fans keep salivating for more. You have a hard hard gig and I respect the work you put in, but that was my constructive criticism.
Kittles verbaled to Western Michigan. Ozigbo, I have not heard much on lately, but he has an offer now. At TE Chris Clark is long gone, but CJ Conrad and Jake Pickard are two I’m hearing of. We offered a 2016 QB from Bergen Catholic today, along with Wisconsin and Louisville. NJ St. Peter’s QB decides tomorrow. Has an offer, but we’re not in his top five. Terry, I think he leans to PSU, but as a parochial he has BC in there. Our Florida commit is actively recruiting another corner, Jeramiah Dinson. Sounds like coach McDonald visited Dinson today.
I mentioned this before, but I’d like to see whom the recruit is playing against if its a NE player!! Sometimes the talent a player is playing against shows way to much of noting of their talent pool!! Just wondering!!
Assume that by now you guys have heard about today’s verbal commit, Davante Davis. Terry, he’s a big corner out of Booker T Washington in the Miami area. I know you love size at the corners and I don’t htink you will question his level of competition. We may have to hold on tight for a while with him. If he has the breakout senior season many are expecting, the SEC and others will come calling. If Miami comes, it seems he may listen. He is either 6′-2″ or 6′-3″ and about 180 lbs. He could use some weight, but a 6′-2″ corner is nice to have.

If Jimmy Walker(who starred in the 1970’s tv series the “Good Times”) was an Orange fan he would tell us all that this kid is ‚ÄúDyn-O-Mite!!‚Äù KABOOM!!!! Terry have you felt the shock waves in your area from the explosion yet?
