If you told me that Syracuse could possibly lose five games after a 25-0 start, I would not have believed you.
But that is exactly what could happen with a matchup against Florida State in Tallahassee on Selection Sunday.
Georgia Tech pulled off the upset on Senior Night over the Orange 67-62. This team and fan base is running with emotions right now and rightfully so. Syracuse is 1-5 in their last five games with embarrassing home losses to both Boston College and Georgia Tech. Losses on the road against both ranked Duke and Virginia squads is one thing, but against teams far from making the NCAA Tournament is inexcusable. Yes, Jerami Grant did not play (back pain), but this team has too much talent to lose in this fashion. Said Boeheim:
‚ÄúI don‚Äôt think this is a defensive problem. I think we have an offensive problem. [Jerami Grant’s back problem] It changes what we are. It makes C.J. do more and puts him in positions where he has to do more. It just throws what we do off a little bit.‚Äù
C.J. Fair scored 28 points and had eight boards in his final game at the Carrier Dome. Tyler Ennis also added 18 points with seven assists. The issue for the Orange was nobody else could help them out. Continuing his struggles, Trevor Cooney went 1-of-8 from behind the arc. Cooney said after the game:
“I look at it as a game of inches. Inch one way, inch another way and the ball is in. Everyone is going to count us out now and we know it. We have to come ready to work everyday and keep getting better and better.”
Georgia Tech went 47.1 percent from the field as Trae Golden led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points. Syracuse almost got back into the game with 3:00 minutes left after a few missed Georgia Tech free throws. The Yellow Jackets buckled down at the end and hit shots from the charity stripe to put the game out of reach.
Boeheim finally acknowledged Syracuse’s great start to the season:
“I would have taken 21-4 after 25 games the way we played. It is a tremendous tribute to these guys and what they were able to do in those games.”
25-0 is a distant memory after the play of the last five games, but if Grant get back to full strength in time for both tournaments along with Baye Moussa Keita, Syracuse could fly under the radar and make a strong push.

couple thoughts on the game. At the end of the game, aside from CJ Fair – everyone in the game has never been a starter. Keita – career backup. Roberson a freshman, his 4th or 5th game ever. Ennis – a freshman (has overachieved so far, but may be hitting his reality slump). Gbinije – sophomore, his 1st yr playing and Cooney, sophomore – 1st year with any significant playing time. Without Grant and Christmas in there – no experience on the floor. team is way too young and with a bunch of injuries.
After all that – we still only have 4 losses, the best record of any ACC team. loosing all these games at this point of the seaon is not good timing although last yrs team did the exact same thing . just checked, we were actually worse, lost 5 of the last 9 games, and still ended up in the final 4. maybe it’s a good sign.
I think if we possibly win vs FSU this wknd and win 1 or 2 games in the ACC tourney, then we should be either a 2 or 3 seed. Any worse than that, we’ll end up as a 4 or 5 seed. Last yr I think we were a 4 and that worked out pretty well.
Odds for us beating FSU on Sunday are slim to none. Syracuse finishes the season at 26-5 which isn’t too bad.
The way that they’re playing right now,I don’t see them winning a game in the ACC tournament and might if their lucky make it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Boy I really hate making a statement like that. Syracuse has some serious problems,I don’t think being a young team is one of them.
This could be as embarrassing as the Richmond/Vermont loses!! And that might be coming?? This is why JB is never mentioned regularly (even tough he is 2nd in all time wins)about being a great coach!! This team reeled off its best ever season(consecutive wins) and now are a laughing stock nationally because it can’t win now at all!! The teams they lost to are not all that great ,decent yes, but great no. Programs have to win now to factor into the BIG DANCE. It looks like that ain’t going to happen!!
NOW HOW ABOUT SOME INFO ON SUFB!!! Gotta wait until end of March I guess. Poor taste DA!! Like only 6 major HS players from NYS and few are interested in SU. Wheatley is mildly interested but you all know he’s not coming SU’s way. DA we have to go else where to find this out!! Why??
I’m in agreement with everything Terry has to say about Wheatly Jr. coming to Syracuse. We all know that he’s going to go to Michigan,we’ve known that for two years now. He isn’t coming so why tell us how good he is. The way I see it he’s just another prima-donna looking to see his name spread across the sports in NYS.
If your going to do a story on a player,please look into the other D1 linebacker prospect that Damien Rhodes told us all about 2 years ago that he had playing for him at Fayetteville-Manilus HS. I want to know if Syracuse is interested in him? Has Syracuse offered him a scholarship? Are we going to let another local D1 prospect slip through the crackes like GROB did by not pursuing Jo-Lonn Dunbar out of Corcoran High School that went to Boston College and is now playing in the NFL. Oh, I forgot he couldn’t find the HS that was 3 blocks away from the university.
Stop dicking us around here,do some articles on the kids that are seriously looking into playing football at Syracuse University. I for one would appreciate it. Gezz,I’m starting to sound like Terry,I need to take a step back and realize what it is that I’m trying to say here. Oh well!! I’ll try being a little more positive in the future,but as of right now I’m in total agreement with Terry.

Chris then you do not follow SUFB on this site. It shows!!! ALL season long this site stuck in boring articles about SUBB all year long YA HEAR ME CHRIS!! A decedent amount of the articles on SUBB were informative,but it was the fall and SUFB should be number 1 then!! But just remember in popularity college football far out succeeds college basketball. DA and his people have blown this one. The draft or whom does not get drafted from SU, future LOI signees, Preferred walk ons, new coaches back ground, or interviews with new or established players and their life stories!! I have heard most of these stories from other site or word of mouth!! Maybe this site instead of orange fizz be called the ORANGE FIZZLE!! That makes more sense since SUFB just disappeared from this site recently!! JB get this team together!! AND GO SUFB!!!

That’s one of the most ridiculous statements ever made and posted on this website and was said to the wrong group of people that follow recruiting and Syracuse Football year around.
