Syracuse QB signee AJ Long told The Fizz just about a month ago prospect Steve Ishmael was a “lock” to jump on the Orange bandwagon. He was right on point.
Multiple reports this morning indicate the 6’2”, wide receiver Ishmael has announced he’s committed to Syracuse. The senior at North Miami Beach intends to sign with the Orange tomorrow on the always hectic National Signing Day.
Ishmael received attention from some of the nation’s top, most consistent wining programs such as Oregon, Louisville and Nebraska. Others school such as in-state Miami, Cincinnati and West Virginia offered the talent deep threat.
He was arguably the most talked about uncommitted recruit for the Orange next to HUGE OL Denzel Ward, who announced Monday he’ll making his decision at 10 AM tomorrow between Syracuse, South Florida and Vanderbilt.
Ishmael has reiterated several times, and as recently as last month that SU was his top choice. “The Mailman” George McDonald has played a large part in his recruiting process with his Florida connections. Ishmael’s pledge to SU adds to a diverse, now-loaded receiving core. 4-star KJ Williams has remained on board, while Corey Cooper becomes eligible this year after a leave of absence. Put tight ends Jamal Custis and recent commit Adly Enoicy next to them, it’s a solid looking group of pass catchers.
Ishmael had an in-home visit from McDonald prior to Syracuse’s Texas Bowl win at Reliant Stadium. His visit on campus back on January 17th obviously stood out. He took two more visits, including Cincinnati on January 24th and this past weekend he was down in Louisville for a date with the Cardinals. SU’s pitch and tour remained in the back of his head.
The lengthy receiver is at the top of McDonald’s potential prizes to join the Syracuse offense. Cometomorrow, Ishmael officially adds explosive depth alongside Williams and others. He was a big fish in the pond, one step closer to being reeled in.

Nice to see a talented group of receivers land at SU. We need guys who can get some separation from DBs to make the QBs job a little easier. Now for some beef up front.
I’m usually a bit depressed this time of year with what we get “under the tree” but must admit I’m impressed with this closing flurry of commits!! I’ll bet even Terry won’t complain about the way were finishing this yrs recruiting? We’ll probably finish in the high 40s rankingwise…highest in yrs!!
In the last 2-3 years of CUSE football, it seemed like for the ORANGE to win, the D had to play out of it’s mind..BC and USF games are an exception.
I feel like we have turned ANOTHER corner as this year are offense could be pretty powerful…

And now it appears we have WRs who can stretch the field..Estime, Cornelius, and a few of the incoming receivers..which in turn can give BROYLD more room to operate.
Hunt has to learn how to deliver the deep ball..he has 8 months. He doesn’t have to be Daryl Lamonica..he just has to be better than 2013.

This is great. What a nice get for this team. Hope that we can now start to throw the ball and open up the run. I don’t think teams will crowd the line this coming season. Also withthe way the schedule is. This give these player a few games to ghet some kind of relationship going. I just hope that we can now land ol ward. I do believe this class will be in the mid to high 40’s. Great job to the coaching staff. now lets see how well you guys can use them.
the starting WR group should be a fun speculation. I like West in the slot with KJ and Ishmael on the wide out spots.The TE needs to be a threat and Parris isn’t that kind of player despite the BC heroics last year. Batten o Provo or the new Macpherson Cameron to get that nod. Enoicy will red-shirt in al probability unless he flashes big in practice making him too valuable for the sideline waiting development process. Its going to be Provo or P J.
Class is looking up!! Rated 52 now!! Couple of more 3+’s and SU might break the 40’s plateau!! Big need is couple of OL’s and another DL!! The only real lack of anything in this years class is DB/S height!! But if they work with the new WR’s coming in with them that should help them WR’s in the future will be 6’0″ or bigger that go to the next level!!
