Shoring Up the Syracuse: Recruiting for the Defensive Line Becomes Priority

Syracuse battles some disappointing recruiting news and continues to recruit heavily for the defensive line.

via Syracuse.com

With Zeek Rodney heading to Wake Forest, the pressure is on for Syracuse to bolster its defensive line in the 2014 class. Chris Slayton is the only DL commit for the Orange right now. In the final weekend of official visits, can SU snag other recruits at the last minute?

Kayton Samuels could be one of those guys. Samuels decommitted from Georgia State last week and has stated that SU and Ball State are now his top two schools. He will visit the Hill for the Duke game with 12 other recruits. At 6’1” and over 300 lbs., Samuels could be a solid addition at a time when SU needs commitments.

A commitment from the 2-star recruit would stop the bleeding from the recent pessimistic recruiting news from this past weekend. Not only is Rodney on his way to Winston-Salem, but Mikale Wilbon pledged to Nebraska and Adly Enoicy gave a verbal to FIU, though Enoicy may still be visiting this weekend despite the late pledge.

Another name that surfaced this week is Darrius Sapp. The Georgia product has great size at 320 pounds and is planning to visit this weekend. Sapp also has offers from Louisville and Cincinnati. He played at a very competitive high school in Valdosta. The 3-star recruit is a late name to the list, but Shafer and company need some big bodies to join Chris Slayton on the defensive line.

The common theme from both potential recruits is where they are from. When Syracuse moved to the ACC, it opened up a hotbed of recruiting in southern states. Syracuse has been recruiting the state of Georgia more and more since the conference move. There are currently five players from the Peach State on the SU roster. It is important to look out for potential pipelines, especially in areas with tremendous football talent.

As National Signing Day approaches, Syracuse looks to especially improve its offensive and defensive lines. Can the Orange get the help it needs to have a successful 2014 class?

Let the countdown begin.

Scraping the barrel I see!! Really disappointed in this staff so far and its recruiting!! #59 rated class so far and can’t sign more DL/OL talent to!! After all the hope of maybe getting better talent earlier this year now its hope and pray. By now most of the top 300 players have their program picked, yet SU is sliding around the country looking for crumbs. I just do not feel good about that!! Let’s pray that SU will come back strong and get its needed talent. But this method has to stop in order for SU to improve down the road!! Of scraping the barrel!

Please do not forget the kids of PSABUSEDU!! The NCAA did.

On top of the 2 mentioned, another DT from Alabama, Jalen Harvey, is supposed to be visiting.

All 3 are around 6’1..300 lbs..

And from what I hear, Terry, these “crumbs” and bottom of the barrel types want to speak with you.

Ya never know? A 2-3 star recruit can be an all conference player.

Coach Shaf and Mac will get some great players here either from their recruitment or with JUCOS

Every once and awhile, I read some of the replies to these articles and think I’ve gone to the syracuse.com website comments section.

True guys but still and all I was thinking the same as Terry before I read his comment!?! Terry, be wary though of how we comment here cause as we know and Ron has often had to remind us no kid or his family wants to read that and they do drop in!! Also as Orangeva noted you are talking about some big boys ha ha.HCSS is still getting his feet under him and did better than anticipated in Yr 1 in the ACC!By next yr we’ll know more and Ron and Malone says they have their eyes on some big fish!!

Recruiting is an imperfect business and I still have faith in coach Shafer & company to get some good players. We are thin at the OL and DL positions and am sure the coaches have targeted some good players for those spots; the Jr college possibilities also can help.

Let’s not forget Wayne Williams is coming in this year to help anchor the D. Very excited to see him play.

Really haven’t heard much on if any JUCO’s are getting recruited this year?

Really surprised Wilbon and Adly gave commitments before at least visiting. Def see Zeek choosing WF due to proximity to home, because he ain’t picking Wake due to their program compared to us haha.

Hope we get a couple surprises

Yeah..it’s disappointing that we haven’t landed a DT yet…we have like 4 DBs//4 Wrs etc heck 2 QBs..where are the DTs..well maybe we’ll pick up 2 this week.

    6’2″ 300 lbs..that’s good//that’s size..something that can’t be “taught”.

But the point I want to make is Shafer and Co. DON’T want to go the JUCO route if they can avoid it. Wayne Williams has 2 years of eligibility left//Zian Jones also had 2 years and now he’s gone.

IF WE CAN GET a DT or two to verbal and sign an LOI on the 6th, we’ll have that player for 4 years..much better than the 2 and done going JUCO.

Yeah it would be nice to have a 3 and 4 star DT put to bed by now…for whatever reason we don’t. So Shafer is doing the next best thing..scraping the bottom or not.

orangeinva or whatever you are. If one can’t speak one mind then don’t. I see you do!! If talent is scared off by my messages go then. NR/2 star players have proven that very few make it!! At the same point most don’t!! SU record and many other programs rated 50 and below will back that up. If you can’t take the heat you know were you can get out of!! Prove me wrong and I will apologize easily!! I have before!! I want SU TO WIN!! Only on hope and pray talent will I question SU desire to sign them. If 3 star or better you hardly see me bitch about that. This Alabama kid just does not smell right!! he’s all over the place. I would think he might have other issues. So prove me wrong then!! As for them wanting to speak to me. Well have at it because I have faced many individuals face to face and challenged them. And I would challenge them to prove me wrong by signing for SU if they have the heart for it!! If not then good luck and go else where then!!

Terry, I know your point, and understand where it comes from. There are numbers that support taking a chance on a lower rated kid as strongly as your argument. For example, there are more 2-3 star kids about to play in the SB than 4-5 stars. There are less NFL teams than D1 college teams, and with all those 4-5 stars out there, you would figure that every NFL roster is full of 4-5 and the less talented, undeserving of attention 2-3s would be weeded out, especially because in the NFL, the teams are the choosers, and everybody tries out. But that’s not the case, is it? No, there are more 2-3 stars than 4-5 stars about to play in the SB and probably in the whole of the NFL. Why?

@imright just because you don’t agree with Terry doesn’t mean he has to leave this site. Terry has been on here for way longer than you have unless you changed your name or don’t post. Terry brings a since of realism that can often look like pessimism, but he wants the same glory for Cuse. You have to admit you would feel safer getting a 4 star DT than praying that a western kentucky commit or georgia southern commit or other 2 star flips and pans out. The fact is we aren’t there yet and if you’re not frustrated with are recruiting then you aren’t a real fan. We beat Minnesota and yet they get the best player in the state of Minnesota who made it the under armor all america bowl. Where is our Ishaq Williams? Where is our Chad Kelly? Boise State has proven the diamond in the rough strategy, but hopefully we can turn recruiting around, I mean McDonald was a friend of Shafer’s, but he had to draw some recruiting appeal. WE NEED PLAYMAKERS

  14. Ron Avatar

I’ve always said throw the damn rating system out the door. the people who are giving these kids all of these stars doesn’t have a chance in hell of ever watching all of the kids play a game to evaulate them. I’ll take a kid who play’s the game with heart. If that’s what a coach like Bobby Bowden believes in,then who am I to ever argue the point?

“HEART” you gotta play the game with “HEART”.

To all of the new comers to this website that are currently replying to what Terry is saying.

You shouldn’t pass judgement on a person and ask him to leave this website because you guys don’t like what he has to say.

Take the time and really understand where the man is coming from and understand that his method of communicating his point of view may differ from the way you guy’s deliver yours. I was in the same boat as all of you were when I first joined this website and would respond to his posts the very same way that you guys are now. Then after really trying to understand his comments,I found that both him and I had a lot of the very same thoughts. Leave Terry alone,he’s probably forgot more about the game of football and Syracuse University than any of you will ever learn.

So in closing people,if you don’t like what he has to say then maybe it’s you that needs to leave this website.

Terry,it’s got to be a “generational” thing. You know what I’m talking about,a kid today turns 18-19 years old and they already know more than a person our age who’s been following the same team for over 50 years.

Damn Terry, talking “Face to Face” with an individual who doesn’t like your message. Wow man, that sounds like something that I would do.

The beauty of these boards is regardless of how long you’ve been on them, or how many times you’ve posted, you’re only measured by the last thing said. Ignorance and immaturity are not lessened by any of those longevity factors. It’s easy to be critical of others yet not be capable of criticism in return.
People need to step back, step off, and get some perspective before indiscriminately just lobbing ridicule towards the job this staff is doing. Otherwise apply for the next opening. It’s not generational at all Ron. I’ve bled Orange my whole life. I’m older. You’re no more a fan than others. It’s perspective. It’s appreciating the challenge and understanding what was torn down over a few years is not going to be rebuilt over night. It’s understanding we can be disappointed yet still constructive. That’s what can help. Otherwise it’s never too late for therapy….

I think the biggest concerns I have with Terry’s post here is not what he’s saying, but how he’s saying it. Ron, I am one who has grown to understand and respect his opinion, and I am in no way attacking his right to have it, or state it, but this poor kid is sitting in Georgia, or Alabama, or wherever and trying his hardest to catch the attention of a team to want him. Syracuse has taken interest in a few of these kids, in part because there is still a need and it is late in the game to address this need, but the coaches saw something they think they can work with in these kids, even if it isn’t a total package, they know better than us what they have to work with and on. Russ knows as do I that these players and their families read these sites, including Fizz, to see what the fanbase thinks of them. For Terry to say the staff is “scraping the bottom of the barrel” is disrespectful to the kid trying to make it, who did nothing to provoke Terry except try to be the best he can be. Sorry for the Army ref Russ, I know you are a USMC guy, but they all commit to defend our freedom, and these kids are committing to improve our teams success and standing. Telling them they aren’t good enough, especially when the staff thinks otherwise, is not an option for me.

Mr. Crabby here!! Look I’m tired of the homers that just REFUSE to state that SU and its program just aren’t up to it!! If your pissed at me its because what I say does have some fact to it. 2 star talent WILL NOY GET YOU TO THE top 30 at all. Fact show that for sure. Hell SU is proof of that for the last 10/12 years. I’m tired of saying the same BS!! Homers just don’t like to hear/see their heart felt team critized at all!! This article states ” this 2 star commitment would stop the bleeding” just what a growing program needs to fill it holes along the DL!! The statement about the Alabama DL kid was meant to say here we go again just bodies to fill holes and hope for talent to show. You homers that always show the 2 star successes (a hand full at times) ok that’s your right!! But what been SU’s record for the last decade with these majority of 2tar kids????????????? I love HCSS but so far this recruiting season has been really disappointing. Concerning what was said SU had shot at in the spring/summer of 2013!! Yet HCSS and staff loose recruit after recruit(3 stars many) and have to kiss butt to talk a W. Kentucky verbal kid to come SU’s way!! That is not talent search that’s talent fill ins!! TO ME SU SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THAT!! There is one week left in recruiting(I think) so it might be early to totally critize the staff’s hard work!! SU has to be in at least the low 50’s for improvement to happen. Believe you me a lot of stuff I feel I hope I’m wrong on!! But to be fearful to say what the facts justify is not what a real fan is all about. Or even an American right!! Those of who know me and my one saying I really believe in: I DON’T MIND BEING WRONG AT ALL, BUT I HATE IT WHEN I’M RIGHT!! I’ve used that many times here. And with the recent acts of this staff to fill in the holes with below average talent, I just hope for heart felt CUSE fans I”M WRONG. But history(facts) show that might be not the case. So calm down homers and let the hand play itself out-OK!! Crabby out here!! GO CUSE BEAT WAKE THEN DUKE!!

    @Malone;

I’ve told Terry in the past that he was out of bounds every time he threw a kid that he’s never met overboard like he was nothing. I’ve also debated with Terry the overall merits of the star rating system. He believes that all of our recruits should be 4-5* athletes for us to succeed. For me,I’ll take the 2-3* N/R athlete because I feel that he’s coachable and learn what’s needed for him to improve.
On top of everthing that a coach has to do when working with young men/women is formost being an instructor and teaching the kids they work with.

For me Terry’s commit about ‚Äúscraping the bottom of the barrel‚Äù was taken out of context and truely misunderstood. In no way was I referring to you when I made my last post. I respect what you have to say and I also respect what Terry has to say. I feel when Terry makes a point it sticks with him forever. If you’d paid attention,he was saying the same thing 4-5 years ago and the his verbage hasn’t changed at all. It’s what he believes is the trouble with the football program.

I honestly believe that Terry means well and is old fashioned and isn’t afraid to tell you and I what’s wrong with the world.

    @John S;

If your an old timer like a few of us on this website are,I thought you’d understand my comment about it being a “generational thing”.

Back when people like Terry,Russell and I and I will include you there wasn’t any “Political Correctness” to worry about. If you had something to say to some one or someone had something to say tpo you IT GOT SAID,and if you didn’t like it well,it was just to bad.

In todays world we have a group of people who are changing the dictionary because of certain words they don’t like and are telling us that when speaking to another person to please be polite and not raise your voice because they may get offended by what and how you speak to them.

If your as old as you make yourself out to be,remember the old addage, once you his the teens you feel you know everything there is to know and no one can tellyou any different. That’s what I meant about it being a “generational thing”.

Another thought that I forgot to mention was I told everyone a couple years ago to please be careful about what and how you make you opinion known before posting them because what we post,it goes world wide and the recruits were visiting sites like these to see what people were saying.

If I remember correctly,I got some flack from people who didn’t believe that the recruits were reading this and othewr sites.

  27. Russell Dangerfield Avatar

Yeah Ron I have to check myself sometime’s here because in person I like to express my feelings to get them out! I always try to remember as a relative novice(non-internet guy)that we have to be respectful of those kids and their families that may not know us as you enlightened some of us years ago. This forum where recruiting is concerned takes some tact or finesse in how we bring our thoughts across as I make the same mistakes myself but live and learn. The kid may turn out great thats why this star system stinks and makes some kids feel superior to others!

  28. Terry Avatar

    Minors on board here-JB!!

Ron Recruiting sites are a better source of talent information than any one on this site including myself.

If a player gets peeved and does not sign at SU its not because of what I said. I only complain about hope and pray talent that lesser programs only want. But do you want lesser talent. You all seem to not care!! I don’t!! Today HCSS did a stupid move if true. Made comments about the snow storm around the Atlanta area. The last time I thought Atlanta was in Georgia!! I thought he was and is recruiting Georgia hard. That won’t help!! Do you blame a Georgia player for being pissed at HCSS remarks and telling the coach to take a hike!! I don’t and neither would you!!

I only(mostly) complain about talent that SU should forget about(NR/2 star)! Or talent that just doesn’t want to be at SU!! I told many of these players good riddance!! The truth hurts mainly when backed up by facts. And now SU might lose a shot at Sapp a Georgia 3 star DL. Its his home and I’d be pissed too. We’ll see!!

Ron, I hope I was not the one coming after you about recruits reading posts. If so, my bad. I was wrong. That said, that is really the only issue I have Terry. As far as I am concerned, you can say whatever you want about your opinion of the program, or the coaches, or the adminstration, but don’t do it to the kids. They are “invited guests”. my point, to use Ron’s words, “what’s wrong with teh world” is not these kids. It may be any of the other aspects I mentioned here, but none of that is the kids’ fault. For the record, I am not happy with the way the recruiting class is winding up based on the apparent panic scramble the staff seems to be in. I think there were target areas that a lot of people ID’d and I think some were not well addressed and now we are trying to rectify that at the end. I am not saying they would have gone after anyone different, just wish it wasn’t so late in the game with a panic perception. Speaking of image and perception…

I will make one point here Terry. In the previous football article you and I were posting on the state of our NE recruiting and you mentioned you thought there was a word of mouth campaign tainting our image. I am willing to walk that path with you, but I find it a little contradictory with all that you are saying and doing here.

  31. Ron Avatar

    @Terry;

I’m with you on this one kiddo,so calm down man. You and I have debated/discussed this subject to death over the last couple of years. I know you want the best to come to Syracuse, but you need to understand that everyone else who post here want’s the same thing.

I’ve told you in the past that one of the main difference that you and I have is,how easy it is for you to dismiss a person that you’ve never met or have shared an intellegent conversation with. It totally blows my mind that anyone can throw any individual so easily under the bus when you or anyone knows nothing about a person. If we get this recruit to come to Syracuse, has the thought of him succeeding and going to the NFL ever crossed your mind?

I watched a tape the other day on tv,showing the seniors getting ready to play in one of the All Star games. It focused on a 2* N/R 6’1″ 305 lb DT that no one recruited because they all said he was to small to be playing the game of football.

The cameras focused on this kid while he was practicing. The kid went into that practice with a chip on his shoulder and totally destroyed the bigger 4* athletes that he had to face. He was faster and more powerful, had better blocking techniques, and his hustle was second to none. If I were a betting man Terry I’d put money on the fact that he gets drafted to an NFL team.

I’m not looking to renew our age old argument about the star rating system, but one other thing that I’ve always said Terry was that you can “NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER”. Let’s give the kid a chance and maybe just maybe this kid by the end of his 4th-5th year can elevate himself to becoming the 4-5* athlete that we all would like here at Syracuse.

  32. Ron Avatar

    @Malone;

Don’t worry, your not. I know this is going to sound corny,I just want you to know that I’ve gained a ton of respect for the information you share with us.

Last summer a woman stopped by my road side stand and bought 3 dozen corn. she stopped because I had my Syracuse banners and flags flying. She started in talking about Syracuse Football and told me that she was a big fan of the Orange and when I mentioned this website to her and told her my name, she wanted to know more about Terry and Russell. That’s when it hit me Malone that others were reading what we had to say to each other here. Back when we first started Russell and I asked everyone to be civil to each other here.

I feel this website is different for that reason. Our view points are varied,we try our best to debate each other and stay level headed when doing so. We may not like what others have to say but we respect them for giving us their opinions and we do it all malone while staying civil to each other.

  33. Russell Dangerfield Avatar

Thats what I like about you Ron….you put in all the explaining work that saves me from getting frustrated at times here with those who see things their “own way” and can’t understand were all unique in our view of what were doing right or wrong!! I remember saying the JUCO route was’nt the proper SU way as most weaker academic schools use them as a “minor league” but the elite academic institutions usually avoid going there except in unusual cases as a position filler and caught a little flack for daring to say FHCDM could do any wrong!! Now we know why as he left for Buffalo awhile later!?! I saw the red flag as soon as he started taking them b4 most others here.I’ll bet Malone felt something was up too?

Malone look there’s something in the air about SU!!. I might be paranoid, but the NE was always a SU farm-system. SU gets less NE blood every year and that makes it harder to recruit if staff has to go 1000 miles away for talent. A bunch left Rutgirls yet not one went SU way or even thought about SU!! WHY????? This SE avenue(Florida and Georgia) looks like right now SU’s only avenue out of being average for years to come. But Homers are happy with that. The problem with SE talent is that’s miles away(possible home sick/family can’t afford to see them play) and weather like here and recently in Atlanta too!! After all these kids play year round. Here hockey is only offered in Dec-March!! Hell even local high rated talent(Rochester) went else where. Look you and others are satisfied with SU being average I’m just not. I can apologized easily if I’m wrong but AGAIN history has proved me right. One last point of facts!! Do you think if JB had 2 star or average talent on the SUBB team the last 3 years he would have this AMASING RECORD this team has!! I damn well know he could not have pulled off this great achievement of his without these high ranked players. And you know it too. The talent level on his team is tremendous at the very least!! So why in the hell do you homers think SU can reached the beloved mountains of success with 2 star or average talent?????? I just dream of that mountain top again as in years ago!! But I just don’t see it in the past years or years to come unless SU gets its home life straightened out first!! We/SU has to find out why the NE is not bringing in the crops for SU as it once did!!

Sorry for ranting RON RUSS and Malone!!

  35. Malone Avatar
    Malone

Terry, I love the rant, and I agree with a lot of your principles, but there are problems and contradictions in the argument. You say there is a stink on the Orange and I say, OK. I assume you want that stink removed, but then you bad mouth the program, making it smell worse in a public forum.
You say you want better talent and it is required to win. I say OK. You then complain that SU is recruiting in Florida and Georgia where better talent is supposed to be (at least according to the rating sites).
You say that we should ignore the city kids because they are prima donnas and never come here. I say OK. You then wonder why we aren’t recruiting the NE and getting the top prospects the state has to offer.
You say that weather should not be a factor, especially since we play in a dome. I say OK. You then say that southern kids won’t come here because the weather is better in the south.
I am not satisfied until we are 11-0 and national champs, so don’t assume I am. That said, what you call homerism, I call protecting the school’s public image. What you call bad recruiting, or scraping the bottom, I call taking the best of what is available to us.
Re-read my post on why we aren’t doing well in NYC or against RU. In these kids’ minds, we are not the option that ND, Fla St., OSU, or even PSU is. If a Jersey kid can’t stay in Jersey, he may as well go to a bigtime football factory. We are not that right now. That, and the fact that everyone involved is doing their best is about the only things I am willing to accept. Yes, I do want to see that change.

Mr. Malone even your brightness gets dulled once in awhile. I meant that SOMETHING not of SU’s doing at all is hurting the farming of the best talent in the NE!! Who or what is doing this. I do not know or others seem not interested in finding out why it happens! Yes SU will not get the BEST talent all the time(mainly record based not tradition based), but once in 10 years is very troubling don’t you feel. I feel maybe the virus infecting the falsehoods against my beloved CUSE is reading this too!! SU can not remove the stink someone or something gave them falsely unless SU sees the need to do that. I feel this poor recruiting is not all of SU’s making-OK!! Since SU has to travel to far away places now for talent(unlike the 50’s-80’S) that causes concerns about those far away players. We all know other programs use the weather factoid as a negative against SU!! Now a players 1000 miles away fights home sickness daily. I know for a fact this happens regularly on the hill. I never said to ignore city kids!! I said that again its the CUSE curse again that NYC is not a real hot bed for SU!! And it should be!! Yes SU gets players from the big apple and LI but rarely one of its best. I just feel its more than SU poor winning record. Malone if your read me more honestly you’d see that!! A true fan says it like it is and is not worried what homers think!! I feel SU should have dream season once in 10/12 year period. I feel that’s realistic-don’t you!! The last one was 1986!! WOW 27 years ago. SU will “never” get there with no name to average players like I mentioned-before. Bottom of the barrel was wrong to say and I could used a different metaphor maybe but I’ll stand by it for now. In this nation that we take free speech so strongly I WILL NOT stop my opinions. I do not shot gun my statements!! Like most homers on this site!! I try to fact based my opinion!! Malone oh how you forget I was always strongly in Ryan Nassib’s corner while others were against him!! Also I never trusted dougie at all either and caught all kinds of hell for that too!! But for now no one at all wants to find out why SU can’t land a top toy player from NYC,LI,NJ,OHIO and PA. BUT I DO!! WHAT THE HELL’S WRONG WITH THAT????? And I want the best talent for SU TOO!! Like JB said “you do not win with bad talent”!! For once he got it right!! LOL!!

Never let me dull your right to your opinion (I know you won’t). I am sure there are lots of things worked against us on the recruiting trail, but there is no way it is one person or thing. I think we should be better and we should have a dream season at least every ten years. 1996 was great, and before that, 1987 was great, but in between were some pretty good year too (I think 1993 was our highest end of year ranking at 6). Anyway Terry, my one hope is to keep the kids out of the mix if we are not happy with the shape of things. I think we are rebuildnig it right and doing it right will help us sustain any success for a longer time with a smaller dip in between the highs.

There is a, or seems to be , a syndicate in place that sells players to the highest bidder. If the post standard had real reporters, they would do a story on it. If Syracuse was involved they sure as hell would run an expose’ on it , front page, and so would the lackey’s at the tv stations.

Malone is more than just winning!! SU has to change something regarding the NE area or 5,6, or 7 win seasons is all SU will end up with!! That not building that just dealing with it and looking forward to SUBB season. Man that sounds familiar-huh!! No way should you be happy with SU’s rebuild the right way. Yes the class is improving, but to the educated eye rated 60th(NOW) is not a rebuild unless you think the previous years SU was terrible! Then 60th is great. That’s the problem!! The acceptance of a low rated class. I and others hope to see by Wednesday around a 52th rank class at least or the class is not much better than before other classes. THAT”S 52th TOO-remember!!

To me, a real injustice has been done to Thomas Holley. Unless Florida is guaranteeing him playing the NFL , because his U OF F degree will do him little good in NYC, his home town , where, more than likely he will end up working the rest of his life. A Syracuse degree in NY opens doors all the way to the top in almost every profession. Whoever are his handlers really steered him the wrong way, and if it was done for their enrichment then that is a crime.

Your use of the word acceptance is what bugs me about your post. I don’t think there is an SU fan that accepts 6-6 or 60th ranked class. That said, we as fans are not in a position to change that either. I can’t make a kid see the opportunity we represent. I can’t make a coach go for it, or take the 3 instead. I can only agree or disagree, but neither represents the acceptance you are describing. I can’t replace the AD or coaching staff. I am glad the fans can’t because we are way too temperamental. We’d have fired every coach SU has had way too soon (GROB is the possible exception). We need to look past the numbers for a bit and focus on the attitude, personality, direction. The numbers will have to follow, and if not, then we can look around, and because we actually have the last guy a chance, someone else might take us up on an offer. I think HCSS needs to clean up penalties. I would like to see more discipline. I like “hardnosed”. I am not excited by the apparent lack of a run offense in our OC’s scheme, but after one season, I can’t judge, especially a bowl winning season.

For the record, I believe I read that after the weekends flurry, and assuming we get Ishmael and Ward signed, Scout would have us at 48. That’s improvement. That’s trending in the right direction.

Terry,I love ya man but you’re starting to sound like some of the youth today(instant gratification)and life in this computer age is whats promoted this!?! We all(mostly you) said if we finished our 1st season in the ACC 500 or better(bowl team) we’d be content for now (1st yr HCSS)? Remember the staff was left scrambling when Dougie deserted us and QB was a major ??….yeah I’m a little dissapointed in this yrs recruiting but the Dome was’nt built in a day?? Keep the faith my friend it’ll happen very soon but all of us are impatient we just try to put 1 foot in front of the other in the meantime!!
i love you’re obvious love for Cuse in between the line’s though even though you’re frustrated.Peace be unto you friend I’ve grown fond and respectful of you.
