Syracuse defeats Minnesota 21-17 to win the Texas Bowl¬†and win the Orange’s third bowl game in four years.¬†While the prestige of the three games (two Pinstripe Bowls and a Texas Bowl) might not be that high, getting wins is certainly a positive for the program.
For a team that started the season 0-2 with losses to Penn State and Northwestern, this is not exactly expected. This is also a very favorable outcome for Syracuse because had Terrel Hunt not thrown the touchdown to Josh Parris with six seconds left against BC, this game would not have even happened.
Syracuse played the same type of football it had all season. The defense was strong, and finished the season without allowing a rusher to rush for 100-plus yards. Jerome Smith started things off with a touchdown and finished with 74 yards on the ground.
Like he did against BC, Hunt helped out his own cause with two touchdowns of his own. He had 74 yards rushing and spread the ball to different receivers. He was terrific throughout, and truly showed what type of maturation he’s gone through since the beginning of the season.
This win is not only good for Scott Shafer’s resume, but it says something about the program. It continues to excel in bowl games. This is huge for recruiting. Syracuse had the opportunity to play in Texas, which is a great state to find the country’s top recruits. With the exposure, Syracuse has the opportunity to be attractive to the nation’s top high school football players in states other than New York. Props to the entire SU program for finding a way to get to the postseason and take advantage of it.

Congratulations to Terrell Hunt on his MVP performance,to coach shafer having a ewinning season in hias first year as a head coach of a D1 program,to the seniors for not giving up and especially to the team on winning the Texas bowl.
I hopw we get some good recruits committing to us after this win. Great job everyone.
Thank you.
so frickin happy right now way to go cuse..
According to all of the pundits we were the underdogs in this game. Just goes to show you how smart they all are.
Congratulations to the fball team. What a great win for the program. Well deserved award for Hunt. Good job!!! I too hope that this win brings in some good recruits for next year. I truely see this program turning the corner tonight.
Great win and Estime was the hero! Freshmen making an impact! If that’s not an ad for recruits, I don’t know what is! Enoicy was his classmate too. If we get him an Ishmael… wow! No matter who the QB (and Hunt looked pretty good) will have a lot of weapons, finally. Broyld has to go. He is a head case and he cost us a TO tonight. Could have hurt us. Very happy it didn’t.
How much money did ‘Cuse and the ACC make‚Ķdoes the winner get extra $$??
all the under privileged children were wearing Minnesoate gear… it was a great game and a great win though!
I want you to make them remember forever the night they played the ORANGEMEN====mission accomplished.
Wow what a game, won by a group of hard nosed defensive players that just didn’t give up. What an effort.
QB battle for 2014 just taken to another level with Terrell Hunt winning the “TEXAS BOWL MVP” award.
I think Dr. Gross needs to get on board and think about paying Coach Shafer and his staff more money.
This victory should open the doors for some good recruits to come to Syracuse.
Hey Terry;
You and I might have to eat some CROW PIE after Terrell Hunt winning the MVP Trophy. I know that I’m going to take a long hard look at the QB position/competition for next year. Right now it looks like Terrell is the man to beat out for the job.
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but boy I wish that we could replay the Northwestern,Penn State and Pittsburgh games over again. Put those three games in the win column and we go from a 7-6 overall record to a 10-3 record for the year.
Not bad is it guys?
Congratulations to the kids! They put together a good year and went out on a real high!
Ron…..maybe Shafer is more than I think..sure hope so. There is more and more evidence to support what he is doing.
Still don’t like the Offensive Staff. Maybe this will help recruiting…..it’s a begining..
Now the University has to get behind him with money, facilities and support!
Good job Shafer and the kids..very good!
I have been a Cuse fan, yes a fan for like..forever!! I just remember all of the Nay Sayers on here talking about Shafer ..what a bad choice…..that the team would not win 3 games…etc…etc. And….comparing him to GRob!!!!!..How many seasons did it take GRob to win 7 games?..Was it 3 seasons?
My point is this: This team and staff shut up a bunch of people including some in the National Press. It is time that we all get behind this team and this staff. They did a great job in year one. I have been saying it all year…the recruiting is better than it was under Marone…you saw glimpses of that with how this staff closed on short notice last year. I for one, am very excited about our future. Congratulations Orange on a very solid season!!!
I would think that some positive recruiting news will begin to emerge soon after this season’s high point win against a B-10 team to show our improvement through the season.Bring it on Fizz writers.
A-MEN Dr. bill,A-MEN. Couldn’t agree with you more. I went to the Villanova game today and when I was walking the hall and looking at the pictures I came across a picture of XCoach Schwartzwalder and really I thought I was looking at a older Scott Shafer.
I really believe Coach Shafer,if he’s here long enough, will have Syracuse in the new playoff system before long.
