Chris McCullough made his verbal commitment to Syracuse last November.¬†Now, there’s a monkey wrench thrown into the workds.¬†McCullough has been dismissed from Brewster Academy for an unspecified violation of school rules.
McCullough is a 6’9” forward who is considered one of the best SU recruits in the last decade. McCullough is the fourth best recruit at the power forward position and he’s ranked second in the region. CM is the No. 1 player in New York, and had offers from Kansas, Indiana, and Louisville.
He is also a five-star ESPN recruit and is given a score of 94 out of 100.
What does it mean for the Orange and McCullough? While he tweeted that it’s only a minor setback and took accountability, the timing is specifically bad. The¬†fall semester is wrapping up, while hoops is just getting started. Because of those factors, will he be able to land elsewhere that quickly to play? And will he end up losing an entire semester of credits? That might be a problem when/if he tries to enroll at Syracuse next year.
Also, depending on the severity of the violation, will SU still want him? No one has reported what exactly the violation was. But does SU’s offer remain? He’s such an immense talent, one would expect the Orange to be patient with the matter. SU will probably be okay in sticking by him if it’s a minor matter or grade-related. If it’s more severe? You always want to be careful if you’re SU.
Another interesting note: He was trying to reclassify to graduate a year early. Meaning maybe he already has stacked enough credits, and this won’t be a huge issue. But either way, a major recruit getting tossed out of school right before the season is never good news.

If he committed a crime,then I say we don’t need him here. If it’s academic’s then that’s something different. If it was one of those rules that’s interpreted differently by different people with the only person that cares being the coach,then that’s something different all together.
If it was something serious enough to get him kicked out of school,then maybe Syracuse ought to take a look at it again and not let the glow of those 5 stars blind them when reviewing the situation.
I agree with you RON(look out guy-lol)!!! But I just feel that being kicked out of a prep school means something and it ain’t good at all. Academics or other stuff just shows issues not needed at SU!! This kid was given an opportunity thousands of other deserving kids will never get!! So his attitude shows he knows he is a one year and out kid. If its a schooling issue JB will welcome him and deal with his schooling issues(hasn’t SU had enough of that already) or if its other stuff then send him elsewhere. Already SU has the NCAA sniffing around way too much now. SU does not need this POOP!! Most kids coming to SU with no dirty baggage do just perfecly most of the time. This so far ain’t one of them!!
Total conjecture here, but sometimes prep schools have a no tollerance policy or honor code as it pertains to academics and cheating. It could be as simple as looking at someone’s test next to him, or plagerising a paper from the web. I am not at all saying I have any idea what the issue is, just saying there are schools that have harsh policies such as that which would get you kicked out. I think UVa has a similar “Honor Code” that gets you booted even on word of mouth (not sure what proofs are needed).

Wow Malone some schools have strict guidelines to follow. Who would have thought a school having guide lines to follow and if you don’t your going to get kicked out.
The one word that is most impressive in your post is “HONOR”. In order to achieve it you have to follow all rules conduct yourself in a respectable way and always respect others while trying to achieve the best thathat you can be in both your public and private life. Set goals for yourself that not many can obtain.
“HONOR” is a heavy word. Might be your message is on target,but if he did commit a crime then maybe it’s time to go after another power forward. I also agree with Terry when he says that Chris McCullough might be a one and done deal if he does come to Syracuse.
I’ll get off of my high horse now by wishing him well and whatever got him kicked out of school gets straightened out.
I heard from couple people that he got caught sneeking out of his dorm for a party. Not sure though. He was trying to reclassify and play this yr so I don’t think it’s academic related. He’s great talent need him to stay on track and find a new school quickly.
I am not sure he’s one and done unless his value is based on potential. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not Melo transendent. I have not seen him in a real game, but in some all-star games. Didn’t see his performance as dominant and that’s in an environ with very little defense.
And Ron, I agree. Honor can be a difficult word to live by, but one we should all strive to understand and heed.

What ever it was that got Chris McCullough kicked out of school,couldn’t have been too bad/big a deal. Chris McCullough and Kaleb Joseph signed letters of intent to join the Orangemen in 2014.
