And this is what we’re talking about when it comes to the benefits of playing in the ACC. Tight end Beau Benzschawel becomes the second player to verbally commit to Syracuse after being at the Dome against Clemson. The 6’6″, 250 pound pass-catcher told Syracuse.com:
“Just being in the loud house just really made me feel like this place has a lot to offer. The student section was going crazy. It just felt right”
Saturday was one of the best atmospheres we’ve seen at the Dome for football in years. Even though the Orange was drubbed right from the opening kick, it was easy to remember how special the place can be when there’s games and opponents that matter inside.
Earlier in the week OL Aaron Roberts also gave his verbal after attending the game. BB is a three-star tight end from Wisconsin. He also has offers from Bowling Green, Iowa State and Central Michigan.
One quote definitely is interesting from Beau:
“(Offensive coordinator George) McDonald was talking to me about how they don’t really have a tight end of my size that can create those mismatches. So with me coming, that’s going to make the tight end position stronger in the future.”¬†
SU used to have a tight end with that size. Sugar Bear Thompson is 6’4″, 250 pounds…. but he was, of course, switched to defense during the summer.
“I could also become an offensive tackle, which would be a great position for me as well.”
No matter what position he plays, it’s great to see the packed house on the Hill last weekend paid dividends on the recruiting trail.

Was very impressed with Cinncy’s QB(Kay) play last night. Oh how it would be nice to have a QB like that. But oh yeah he has WR’s that he can throw to!!
I still think it was a HUGE mistake for HCSS not to have more recruits in for the Clemson game. I know its his way and job, but SU can’t play games on recruiting. Its lack of success in recruiting shows that year in and out!! These two players were excited by the Dome atmosphere. I think HCSS can’t duplicate that feeling(DOME) in a face to face with future recruits. Big fan of his, but at first I was a fan of dougie’s to. I hope HCSS has it right!!
Do not forget the 19 abused kids of PSU. The NCAA did. Remember Pan Am 103 as well too!!
Can we stop making a big deal of three star recruits with offers from central Michigan or blowing green? I like to believe were better than them and should not have to recruit against them.
I would love to see Syracuse pull in some of the 4 star rated players out there. It was clear in watching the Clemson game that bigger…faster players win games and the more of them you have..the better. when you look at the 4 and 5 star players, from a size/speed standpoint, these players have that college ready look compared to 2 and 3 star players.
We need to recruit better players and be able to put them in a scheme that works for them. for all the criticism Marrone took, coming from the NFL, one thing he did know how to do was to scheme and game plan an opponent based on tendencies and weaknesses displayed on film. This current staff, the jury is still out on their ability to do that.
Someday the team might have progressed to the point that it can recruit a kid with Beau’s size at TE and allow him to play TE instead of having the player grow and develop into an offensive lineman Big Beau’s time at TE is likely only going to be experienced in articles of this natureOur very first four star player recruited in many years who is Ron Thompson had excellent size and outstanding speed for that position. So after coming in a bit overweight the coaching solution is to move him to defense.Thomson may or may not be an outstanding DE.Regardless he will not have the opportunity to bean outstanding TE. Neither did Max Beaulieu who came into the program as a monster at DE so it was only a matter of changing his position to TE to create a player who contributed NOTHING to the program before leaving after his eligibility expired and presumeably out of football.

Matt Parks reported on the pregame show on the radio that Keon Lynn will have surgery that will end his Syracuse Career. I hope that everything goes well and he has a speedy recovery.
Thoughts on the NCST game;
1st after watching the Clemson/NCST game I didn’t think we had a chance against them today.
2nd the OL took control of the game and gave the defensive line of NCST fits all day long. OL gave our runnung backs holes that they could have drove tractor trailes through. Jerome Smigh 19 carries for 132 yards,Prince Tyson Gulley 9 carries for 140 yards. Pretty damn impressive,wasn’t it Terry?
3rd major kudos to the defensive unit. They looked super today and really hoping that they play that good or better against Georgia Tech next Saturday.
4th Russell has been telling us all year long that the Northeastern football power running game would give the teams in the ACC troubles. Boy was he ever so right with that prediction. Good job Russell.
5th we are at .500 with a 3-3 overall and 1-1(3rd place) in the ACC Atlantic Division. WOW!!!!!!
6th Terrell Hunt as a starter 3-1.

It took me awhile guy’s but Syracuse had 8 penalities for 72 yards. Not good but it isn’t horrible either.
Nice victory Syracuse. If we can beat Georgia Tech OA 3-2 Conf. 2-2 and Wake Forest OA3-3 Conf.1-2 at home,Syracuse will be 1 victory away form a bowl game.

Were 6 games into the 2013 season and I believe Coach Shafer is just about to finish putting the puzzle together. I thought the OL played a tremdous game today. Syracuse only had 8 penalities for the game,almost and I say ALMOST played a perfect game.
I thought the hit of the game came from that N/R junior college transfer LB Josh Kirkland hitting Quintin Payton and breaking up the pass forcing NCST to punt the ball. I thought it was a great hit from one piece of the puzzle that is the Syracuse Football team.
I’ll say it again, YES, SU does want to be able to get higher caliber recruits. However, we as fans need to be more honest with the current state of the program and the caliber of programs we are competing against in that regard. SU should go after the best players it can reasonably get. Whether its a 4 star who is sincerely interested in the program or a 3star guy with raw ability that can be refined. Schools on SU’s level have to compensate for its talent gap with A+ coaching that helps players develop and accentuates the abilities of the guys they have. Then, in time with a few more wins we can become much more attractive to the high profile guys. That said, speed and size should be higher priorities. We need to be able to knock people off the line and gamebreakers that can make plays.

Russ,after looking at the remaining schedule, I got to dreaming again and hoped that Syracuse wins 5 of their last 6 games to go 8-4 for the year.
I believe everyone of the remaining games will be tough for the Cuse. But if they play the remaining 6 schools like they did against NCST. I don’t see why 5 out of the 6 isn’t possible.
FSU plays Clemson on Saturday with the winner probably ending up the 2013 ACC Champion. I think FSU better hope that none of their players get injured in this game.
After Boston College gave Clemson a run for their money,I expect them to fall in the rankings. Will have to wait until Tuesday to find out just how far. I know one thing for sure Russell and that is the rest of the season should be real interesting.
