Syracuse Adds Another QB: Former Miami Commit Alin Edouard Picks Orange

Alin Edouard verbally commits to ‘Cuse, adding some competition to the quarterback position.

A.J. Long may have some competition.

Syracuse has picked up a second quarterback verbal commitment from the Class of 2013.

Alin Edouard, a 6’1” quarterback from Hialeah, Fla. made a verbal commitment on Sunday night.

Edouard, a 3-star recruit, joins Long, another 3-star quarterback, on Syracuse’s list of future play callers. Edourard was committed to another ACC team, Miami, but decommitted last month. He had offers from Appalachian State, BC, Cincinnati, FAU, Florida International, LA-Lafayette, Louisville, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Penn State, USF, Tennessee, and Wake Forest, according to Rivals.

With Terrel Hunt’s struggles in the last two weeks, it appeared like Long would have an open road to the long-term solution under center. But now SU has two solid options, and that can only be a good thing in a tough ACC. Edouard is considered the 64th best QB in the nation. He comes from a very familiar area for George McDonald: South Florida. McDonald’s offense has left much to be desired in its four losses this year, but his acumen on the recruiting trail has been obvious.

Edouard threw for 926 yards and nine touchdowns his junior year. He also three nine interceptions. He rushed for 557 yards and seven touchdowns. He ran a 4.57 40-yard dash, according to Rivals.

ESPN’s Recruiting Nation lists him as the ninth best quarterback in the Class of 2014. He’s a dual-threat quarterback who is accurate and very skilled. He has great delivery to his receivers and his athleticism allows him to take off with his feet if necessary.

    @Austin Pollack;

    Austin your opening statement(A.J. Long may have some competition)indicates to me that your overlooking the fact that we have Kimble,Wilson and Hunt vying for the QB position next spring.

    A.J. Long is going to find out that the college game is a whole lot tougher than the high school game.

    I think the competition is going to be between Kimble,Wilson and Alin Edouard. One of those three young men will be the starting QB in 2014.

    Edouard, Wilson, and Kimbel? What makes you think Aj isn’t in the running? Alin had 9 td to 9 interceptions, Aj has 39 to 1… Soo yeah, I’m gonna take the later.

    Ron,

    You’re right that Kimble, Wilson and Hunt will all be competing for the starting job next season.

    I’m not specifically focused on next season. I don’t expect Edouard or Long to start next season. They will compete, but I don’t think either will start. I’m thinking overall. I think people see Long as the Syracuse quarterback of the future, but he has more competition. He already has competition, but now he has more.

    Look this kid has not signed up for SU yet. At one time he verbaled to Miami!! The tendency for these spoiled kids is to play the field and they like to see their name in the lights of public recruiting!! SU has others(verbals) doing that(more visits) to and its happening to all the programs nationally. To me this says the staff feels that HUNT/ALLEN ain’t the men and so far we all know that. But that won’t help SU now. 5 wins is the best for 2013!!

    God FSU looks good!! We can only dream can’t we. I bet ya Ron of the 22 staring players(O and D) at FSU 2 stars are very rare. But hell if you have 4/5 stars around 2 stars that will make a 2 star look great. But to SU fans who don’t seem bothered by a MAJORITY of 2 star types starting for SU the GT game showed that talent is “IT” when it come to winning or being embarassed!! And we know what talent did for SU last Saturday!!

    Do not forget the 19 kids of PSU!! The NCAA did!!

    Terry,
    How do you think SU goes about getting all of these 4/5 star players like Florida State? I would love to hear your plan. It is great to say SU needs to recruit 4/5 star talent…much more difficult to get them to come to the Cuse. We need better players no doubt…but in order to do that, we have to start winning on the field and have better facilities off the field…and fans filling the Dome would help. Is Shafer and this staff the answer…..only time will tell.

    Im really doubtful about AJ at 5’11” 175 making his bones at a Tenn prep school would have been what many expect of him here?No way he’s 6′ 185 but might excell at db JMO but I think Kimble and esp “Edouard” have the potential to help right away as a Vick/Pat White type QB.Tenn isn’t a great HS FB state and UT and the other D1 schools must find there talent where they can(Fla/Ga)so I wish AJ would have completed his HS career in his home state of PA where we can see how he developed among good competition!I know most have fell in love with AJ’s antics and “recruiting” but we’ll just have to wait and see how it develops!How many Russell Wilsons are their?

  7. Russell Dangerfield Avatar

    @James,Edouart plays in maybe the toughest HS FB area in the country so don’t buy into just stats!!If he don’t play at QB he has the talent and swagger of a neon Deon Sanders potential.AJ just has Tenn Prep stats and a gift of gab not to forget tatooed biceps that won’t help on the field.Lets see the “beef”!!

  8. Russell Dangerfield Avatar

    @Ron,Im with you and your excellent,wise post!!Wheres the beef?Kimble is not to be overlooked either!

  9. Ron Avatar

    To be honest with all of you,I haven’t seen tapes on Kimble or Wilson. I know what the rumor’s are on campus but won’t repeat them here. I’ve seen the tape on the newest recruit and to me he looks really really good. i guess we’ll just have to wait until spring practice begins to find the answer to who really is the best.

    But guy’s I really don’t see AL long taking control and winning the QB position at Syracuse. Maybe play on the defensive side of the ball at CB or Safety. I could be wrong this one too,but I just don’t see it happening.

    God FSU looks good!! We can only dream can’t we. I bet ya Ron of the 22 staring players(O and D) at FSU 2 stars are very rare.

    Your probably right about that Terry. I will say FSU has recruited 2* players in the past,matter of fact,they’ve recruited a 2* for the class of 2014. Must be a very special player or maybe a kid of a very wealthy booster. However the majority of their players are 3* athletes.

    Maybe we ought to ask Carlton to give us all,his take about the recruits FSU goes after. I know that their all not from the State of Florida and all members of the team are not all 4/5* players.

  11. Ron Avatar

    @Terry;

    Now that I’ve calmed down a little I want to explain why I started in watching NJ high school football.

    Earlier in the year someone on this website brought up Jabrill Peppers name and wanted to know if we had a chance of hin coming to Syracuse. He’s a 5* athlete who once played for Don Bosco Prep and later in his sophomore year transferred to Paramus Catholic. The kid is extremely fast and played both sides of the ball the whole game. It was fun watching the kid play.

    The announcers made a couple of statements that surprised me. They said that all of the southern schools are coming north to recruit the players here and when you look at teams like LSU,Florida,Georgia and FSU they all have players from the north who are fast. Those teams aren’t totally made up of southern players.

    You’ve mentioned/asked in the past why can’t Syracuse lock down the top recruits within the state? Do you feel we’re the only ones who are experiencing not getting the top players within the state?

    I’ve been led to believe the Rutgers turn around of their football program was due to the fact that they have locked down the state. Well I realized Friday watching that high school game that that just isn’t true. You see Coach Flood of Rutgers has lost a lot of top talent to out of state schools and has to settle for good 3* and getting a couple of 4* athletes from out of NJ to come to Rutgers to play.

    Terry the just of this post is that I watch high school football and learn about the programs from the different regions in the country. There is a ton of talent in NJ that can be recruited to come play for Syracuse,Jason Cabinda rated as the second best player in NJ is only the start. What do we have to lose? Lets give the coaching staff a chance to see what happens. One thing to remember,that recruiting isn’t over with for the class of 2014. I feel we’re going to plesantly surprised when all is said and done.

    GO CUSE;

  12. Ron Avatar

    This is what I found about Rutgers recruiting for the class of 2014.

    They’ve recruited 5-4* athletes, 4 of them are from the state of NJ and 1 is from Detroit Michigan.

    They’ve recruited 18-3* athletes from NY,NJ,Fl,Texas,and Michigan.

    They’ve also recruited 1-2* athlete.

    So you see Rutgers bypassed 4* WR Juwann Winfree,3* TE/LB/DL Kurt Holuba, 3/4* LB Jason Cabinda and others in NJ. Don Bosco Prep has a player that is 6’9″ 287 lbs playing the DL and is only a junior. The only school to offer him is Florida,why aren’t we going after a player like that?

  13. Terry Avatar

    Russ Tenn does have decent HSFB talent. Its just we don’t hear all that much about them.

    Ron just not interested in NJ HSFB right now. Maybe I’ll read about Florida and Georgia!! Yes NJ is very decent in talent but SU right now has no chance at NJ top talent. So who cares(Ron and Russ I guess only)!! Cabinda is only mid-level and he’s sniffing PSU’s way!!. Rutgirls, ND and PSU will get the best from NJ. NEB years ago was big on NJ too!! Ron FSU has 2 2-star players verbaled for them for 2013(one is 6’4″ 215 OL-huh). Probably FSU’s last few classes are close to their 2013’s class. While SU’s classes have been loaded with 2 star players. But SU has improved talent, but the talent has not shown on the field this year at all!! It hurt SU at GT and will for the rest of the year too. 4 to 6 wins yearly is by no means a goal for real SU fans. If SU wants DIV 1 respect it has improve its talent, its that simple. Capt Bill that what I’m trying to say. Winning comes from majority of 3/4 and a sprinkle of 5’s stars. Not 2 stars and below!! A player with so called “tons of heart” is a great story, but talent is more valuable. I don’t expect SU to get great high numbers of talent now because they stink. But as a fan I expect them to cleanly get better talent to the hill. Not just fill holes with below DIV 1 talent like maybe HUNT!! The new QB verbal(if he stays true) was a good move. It tells us that the staff is not happy with the QB situation!! And most true fans are not happy with the QB situation either!!

    Forget Qb we need offensive weapons around him the O-line seems to be getting gradually worse each season and the trend will continue as yet another will go pro but more importantly, the Wr’s are terrible. This season shows how good Alec Lemon really was for us go back and watch the last game winning drive literally no one else caught a pass on that drive that may be because he is good but is also attributed to how bad our other wideouts are besides Broyld : Chris Clark (weighs 10 pounds and was buried on the depth chart just last year) Quinta Funderburk (doesn’t play worse than other options) Ben Lewis (white possession receiver with only average hands who mades the least of his opportunities on the field) Alvin Cornelius (provides no threat to a defense) Jeremiah Kobena (can’t catch for his life) Jarrod West (completely MIA where is his breakout senior season) Adrian Flemming (never made it through a year healthy) Brisly Estime (another bright spot like Broyld but thus year is actually just burning uncesseary eligibility before he is ready) ALL I Know is KJ Williams, Jamal Custis (who is only here because he was promised a chance to walk on to the basketball team) and Corey Cooper better show up from Day 1 because QB is the least of our worries

    @Terry,HS FB in Tenn is alright but just average!!NY probably has more “hidden talent” but NJ is on another level!How many teams have you heard of that stock up on Tenn HS players or go there to recruit?But every player (big dogs) knows you MUST have a NJ recruiter including the “U”(see D’onfrio)and Fla(see Addazio now BCs HC) who are talented but young!Your saying exactly what Grob said that started our problems and now your not happy with the results but still want better talent?How can we recruit Ga/Fla if we can’t next door?Were looking down there(Fla/Ga) while they come up here(NYC/NJ/LI) for talent while we settle for there leftovers?NJ stocks PSU/Temple/RU/Pitt/UConn/BC etc)not to mention ND and all the southern schools with athletic,speedy,smart and tall athletes!We need a Jeff Hafley type super recruiter who would reclaim our spot in NJ and the Greater NY area not nice guy Moore(whom I respect)!

  19. Ron Avatar

    @Terry;

    Is there anything that Syracuse does that can make you happy at all?

    Your complaints have been for them to lock the state down,the next thing your saying is they should go after talent in the heavily recruited states of Florida/Georgia and ignore the state of NJ who also has a ton of high school talent there.

    You easily dismiss players that you feel are no good. Example Jason Cabinda as the second best player in NJ. Your telling us he’s average and a middle of the pack player,you’ve never seen this kid or any other recruit play a game but you continue to dismiss them like they were nothing. I just don’t get it Terry,your emotions are getter the better of you and I believe effecting your better judgement. Make a visit to your doctor,ask him/her for the right medication that’s going to help you think straight and please start taking it. Remember these are 16-17-18 year old kids that are trying to make decisions that will change their lives forever.

    Cabinda is middle of the pack in NJ. The EXPERTS know!! Ron you are not an expert. Neither am I. But I believe them before you. Yes he has quality, but not near 2nd best!! GEZZZZZ!!

    Ronette your ideals are right in line with your tea party beliefs!! You are so backwards and you refuse to look in your own mirror of reality!! Use some windex please!!

    SU should have the pick of the litter from NYS if it wins regularly. But we know lately that’s quite a hard goal right now. NYS HSFB diamonds go else where for the last decade(s)(and who blames them) and SU gets what’s left over. You guys are just seem satisfied with SU’s lack of success in the last decades. Sincere MODERN SU fans are tired of the excuses from the staff and fans. Results have not been coming except for a bottom tier “Snow Bowl” that really has no real appeal to recruits.

    Russ I can guarantee that TENN has better HSFB talent than NYS. HSFB there is hot there, here in NYS its not. Yes its no Fl, PA, Geor, TX or Cal. but its better than NYS!! Screw the preps they recruit talent!! I’m a fan of honest HSFB public schools football. The team DNA comes from its neighborhoods not recruited from miles away!! Its a joke!!

    I’m not in the minority of tired of the losing!! A 1/2 to 1/3 filled DOME shows that game after game. Forget Clemson they were quality and worth seeing!! Its homers like you guys that hope and pray for some kind of epiphany from the heavens will come down and save the CUSE. For last 10/15 years it hasn’t happened yet. Christ you get excited over the snow bowl and the next year SU fails at winning. Kinda smells like this year to. I’m probably MORE loyal to the CUSE then you are. I’m not afraid to say what’s going on with facts!! I/we are tired of the poor play, poor coaching, poor talent gathering, poor attendance, excuses and homer fans that refuse to see the light. Programs are not build around losing or stupidity. They are built on honest work and winning!! So far over the last decades(s) neither of them have shown up. Gulp Gulp just took my meds and I feel better already!!

    On Espn they rate him(Edouard) a 4 star at 6’3″ and at 190lbs!! On Rivals(a 3 star) a more factual site they have him at 6’1″ at 180 lbs. I believe Rivals. Also Espn has him at 4.6+ in the 40ty. PEACE-Ronette and RUSS!

    I got an idea that has grown over the years. I think Edouard might pan out for SU and might make a QB that SU really hasn’t had since NcNabb. Many successful college coaches recruit HS QBs not only for throwing the ball down the field, but also most of the time HS QBs are the best athlete on the HS team. Many HS QBs make great WRs or DBs if not good enough for the QB position. These might be 2 star quality kids, but they might have quality football talent. Its the 2 star DL,OL, WR DB/S that scare me and others off!! But when you recruit them(QBs) you have to tell them that a position switch might strongly happen. Also HCSS has to play these kids right away. Hell getting beat 56-0 using Freshman players is not any different than playing kids ahead of them with the same or not as much talent. This sole effort is for program building. Many top 10 teans do it why not SU. Tell the good talent out there they will play right off and hold up to it. It just might sell and build the program the SU fans so well deserve!!

    @Terry;

    The week leading up to the Georgia Tech,the local press was telling us to watch out for the chop blocking that Tech loves to use in a ball game. Everyone today is worried about a player getting a concussion. I can understand that but like I said earlier a player knows the risk they take playing the game.

    What about the CHOP BLOCK that was put on John Raymon in the game last weekend? It was dirty,uncalled for and the frigging refs totally ignored the call. I feel if the refs are not going to call a penalty on a play like that then I feel that they shouldn’t be allowed to ref anymore. I have never watched a game where a team didn’t get called for a penality,not one was called against Ga Tech.

    I’ve watched a lot of college games this year and one of the things that I noticed most was the amount of true freshmen playing the game this year. I don’t understand it either,if we have players good enough to play as freshman,then why aren’t they playing?

    Terrell Hunt came in tonight and my message to him was,last week was rough but remember always to keep you head held high because theres always going to be a better tomorrow. I met Devanta McFarlane and told him that he’s going to play a hugh part in Syracuse Football over the next 2-3 years. A hugh part be ready. I also met and talked with John Raymons mother,nice lady. It felt like I’ve known her for almost my entire life. I asked her to pass a message onto her son wishing him the best with the recovery of the injury he recieved Saturday.

    For me guy’s it was an outstanding night at work,couldn’t have gone any better. I’m truely honored to have the chance to meet these kids and have a chance to talk with them. Great stuff.

But this still all comes down to SU!! If SU had a history of a winning program he would of not jumped ship.

    Both USC and Miami paid the price of doing illegal $$$$ matters with parents or program fans and losing bowl games and recruits!! Yet PSU breaks the most moral law of man raping children(not $$$ related) and gets recruits back. I totally agree with the ACC commissioner. He feels as I the NCAA needs to be history!! I would hope without the NCAA protecting PSU,PSU would of paid a SMU type punishment. Wait SMU didn’t rape children did they! What’s worse SMU or PSU!! All human beings know what the real difference is between SMU and PSU! Thank god for that. But for sure NCAA must not believe in faith-does it!!

    Terry talks great sense… First of all….these kids commit..de commit when they feel like their not getting enough attention. The few that know what they want stick to their choices and get after enjoying their senior year! But that’s the exception…
    The thought of offering to let a bunch of freshman start..promise them starts….take your lumps…teach them to play…is exactly what Golden has done in Miami. They had ACC trouble hurting recruiting….brought in a reasonable, under the circumstances…2012 class….the kids made mistakes..defense sucked…changed a lot of kids positions….Added JUCO talent, added transfers…..great 2013 class…on the way to a really great class…they have a team..not as good as the ranking. I think FSU will kick their ass!
    I’m in Fl till Spring…I’ll go to one of his games and tell you what I see..assuming he’s still an SS committ.

    @Cuse17;

    On the spot reporting about a Syracuse recruit(or any recruit)that’s better than any of the recruiting services do and probably will be more accurate. Looking forward to reading your article.

    Thank you “Cuse17” and enjoy the winter break in Florida.

    People can’t handle themselves at a 4-way stop intersection these days . So how the heck can they handle themselves talking about politics ???

    This is WHY we have football to talk about … to forget all of that BS 🙂
