Nashua, NH point guard Kaleb Joseph took visits to three New England schools: Boston College, UConn and Providence. But two of them have been knocked off his list, and Syracuse is on it. The 6’2″ guard from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA has whittled his final three to the Orange, Providence and West Virginia.
While he’s only ranked in the 50’s overall nationally by scouting services in the Class of ’14, don’t be fooled. He’s rising, and plenty of schools believe they are buying low on him.
Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports wrote this about him just days ago in his Vegas Notebook:
“His skillset is nowhere near finished. He’s somewhat raw as a floor general right now, but his tremendous athleticism and attack-mode mindset make his ceiling higher than some players ranked higher than him.¬†It’s just a matter of fine-tuning certain aspects of his game.”
The Orange already have a standout point guard coming in this year in Tyler Ennis. But the NBA-machine of guard play that SU has turned into means you can never have enough talent in the backcourt. Jonny Flynn left early. Dion Waiters left early. Michael Carter-Williams left early. You need that depth to thrive annually.
Interesting that a New England kid took a visit to Storrs and doesn’t have the Huskies in his final three. Maybe the unknown after Jim Calhoun retired and NCAA trouble the program got into is taking its toll.
Syracuse doesn’t mind. Joseph may end up being another chip on its ever expanding poker table.

It depnds on Huggie at WVU. This coach is somewhat sly to say the least. Come to Cuse and play in from of 33ooo crazed fans and the ACC.

Depends on huggie bear?? What does WV or Providence have to sell Kaleb compared to ‘Cuse?? The only thing I can think of is playing close to home, so in that case Providence wins. But even distance wise he is still only a few hours away from home.
You can make an argument for playing time, but still he may come in and play depending on if any guards go pro.
You cant compare WV or Providence basketball hoops to ‘Cuse. ‘Cuse plays in a better basketball conference, better facilities and has a way better home atmosphere.
Gotta think the conference change is going to hurt Uconn more than anything.
How many scholarships will SU have to offer? Baye and CJ are SR’s but is that it? I would like SU to grab whitehead as well as Goodlock.
Have any of u guys heard of AO’s brother? He’s 6’10 250 was highlighted by espn for the July period. I’ve only heard some whispers here an there about him being linked to SU. In his little blurb in the espn article SU wasn’t mentioned. Anyone know if SU has offered him? Might be a nice backup plan if goodluck goes elsewhere.

AO’s brother is rated a two star by ESPN and is not expected to be anything other than a defensive stalwart; hasn’t shown the ability to develop any offensive game whatsoever. In the past, Syracuse has taken these types of players as end of the bench kind of guys (see Baye Keita), but the program has evolved and improved to the point where scholarships aren’t available for guys other than high major recruits.
Joseph has verbaled to SU on visit this weekend.
