Former Syracuse University basketball star Lawrence “Poetry In” Moten is all set to have his No. 21 jersey retired by the school this season. Although the date has yet to be set, the school plans on honoring the basketball great for his incredible contribution to the sport both on and off the court, and his ability to play both small forward and shooting guard with perfect ease. His nickname was well earned and he remains a legend in NBA and SU circles.

The meet and greet session helped raise money for the SU Basketball Alumni Club and formed part of a series of informal gatherings Moten has held since he turned up at the Final Four in Atlanta to support the Orange and was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support he received.
Moten is no stranger to awards and ceremonies and he started in his freshman season by taking home the Big East Rookie of the Year for helping Syracuse win the league championship. The retirement of his jersey will be a great honor for a man who has continued to be immensely passionate about a game which gave him great opportunities, and he is now paying them forward to other players and his alma mater.
