While quarterback and running back get all the attention, it’s nearly impossible to have success there without a very good center. Syracuse currently has three centers on its roster, but the Orange has offered another: Andrew Marshall in the Class of ’14.
Macky MacPherson, a local kid from Christian Brothers Academy, started all 13 games last season for the Orange blocking for Jerome Smith and co. and snapping to Ryan Nassib. He’s a senior now, and will have the same duties for Syracuse‚Äôs first season in the ACC. That leaves sophomore Seamus Shanley and redshirt freshman Jason Emerich as the future there.
In ’14 the Orange will have an opening at center, and Marshall could be an option. He hails from Cumming, Ga., where he attends West Forsyth High School. The 6‚Äô4‚Äù, 260-pounder is a three-star recruit according to ESPN. Right now, Syracuse, Duke and Wake Forest have all offered him from the ACC.¬†East Carolina, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee, Navy, South Alabama, and Western Kentucky have also offered up scholarships.
Bigger SEC schools like Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina also have interest. He has said he’d be interested in staying close to home and maybe in-state at UGA or George Tech, but he’s also open to leaving his friendly confines. Now that SU is in the ACC, the Orange will play road games within driving distance of his friends and family.
The Class of ’14 is already shaping up nicely for SU. Quarterback A.J. Long has verbally committed, while signal-caller Sean White from Southern Florida is taking a look. J.R. Zazzara from CBA is also headed to Syracuse for lacrosse, but is considering football as well.
Considering how the backfield will likely be a strength for SU for a long time, having a dependable center is crucial for the Orange. Marshall could be that guy.

here’s a kid i’d like to see play at su. i think we need another quality center on the team next year. we should not forget the juco kid thats here now, so if su can redshirt him this year and there will be 2 years left for him. i don’t think we’ll land this kid but i’m hopeful.
I think Jason Emerich will be real good but I don’t think Seamus counts as depth at center while Miller can probably fill in if needed. Marshall will add nice depth to the position

I think their was a sleeper we could have got from Connecticut “Connor Dintino” 6’1″ 275 whom Pitt grabbed and Pitt NEVER recruit’s Conn!!We were sleeping on him!Just a shade under 6’2″ and height isn’t as importand in the middle of the line!A good wrestler too!
Watch out for W.Kentucky as Arkansas deposed coach is there now and a heck of a recruiter!
Russ- I look at any and all sites. SU is now 72 in national rank. Can SU fall anymore!! That’s all in about 14 hours. Hypes not working now!! Gotta be patient-I guess!!
Real nice article on Mr Whie head of recrutiting. I really like his mojo! But, here I go again, show me the results. SU rated so far this year=72=TERRIBLE!! He helped with 2 JUCO’s to sign with SU but they haven’t even played a snap yet!! Lets see if by early winter Mr White is effective in his job. Yes its really early, but rated 72 and behind programs that are lesser than SU hurts!! 5 verbals so far and “possiably” some talent there, but still not enough to consitute a constant winning program. Let Mr White do his job and load the SUFB cupboards with talent and then shower him with accadotes. But now that shower is made of something else!!
Like addressing this position, but I still don’t see the Georgia inroads getting us this far yet. His offer list isn’t overwhelming, but he seems to like the idea of staying local. He seems the type to hold out until he gets the GT or UGa offer, or taking something verbally and hoping for the flip opportunity. I hope we can get him and keep him, buti am not too optomistic.
Hang in there Terry, I think we might see some efforts pay off in the next few days/week. I gave a list of what I think are good leans on the Zaire article. We get some of those guys and I think we see a big shift in our number. I think we have a good shot at Mavety and I think an outside shot at Holley if what I hear about his mother insisting he stay close to home in the NE is true. Still too much work to do, but I THINK some of it will sort itself in the next week or so.
