Update: Thursday, 7:03a.¬†Good for Shafer. News comes down he indeed dismisses both players from the team. As detailed below, the simple grounds of stupidity should be enough. The scope of the crime is ridiculous. To hatch a half-baked plan to rob South Campus apartments is far worse than an emotional reaction outside a bar or in a police car. Why suffer fools, especially if they’re second semester juniors still acting the fool? Glad he tossed them. Didn’t belong with a scholarship with that type of nonsense. He made a quick decision, and didn’t go half way with some mealy-mouthed “they’ll sit out the Spring Game” silliness. Good job.

* * *
Some events leave you scratching your head in Orange Land. Michael Carter-Williams’ late-game decision-making in tight spots. Darryl Gross’ orange/orange/orange football uniform concept. And now Markus Pierce-Brewster¬†and¬†Davon Walls robbing a South Campus apartment.
How do two players in their junior years, with just one final season of eligibility, concoct an idea to steal $950 worth of electronics? College kids (myself included) can be stupid. But this ridiculously brain-dead decision even stretches that admission.
First, you’re going to engage in any type of criminal activity which could easily compromise your final year of football? While neither player was a star, MPB was expected to make big contributions on the defensive line. Yeah, throw that away for a chance to steal an Xbox and some video games. Good idea. Not sure what defense they’ll have. They were caught on security camera.
Thefts happen all of the time in the dorms and South Campus. Been happening for years. Students leave their rooms unlocked and head to the dining hall. On South, it can be eerily quiet in the middle of the day when students are at class or in this case on a Saturday when people are out doing things. Probably seems like the time for a perfect crime.
But how could these two think it’s worth the risk to steal less than $1,000 of stuff? An Xbox, two iPods, a few video games… and a 19″ television? Think of how small a 19″ screen is. So the criminal mastermind says, “Yo. I know these two dudes who are gonna be at the mall Saturday afternoon. They got this little TV, an Xbox, Call of Duty. Let’s snatch that.” What, you’re going to split $500 each? And risk a free education and your chance to maybe play for a paycheck?
Something was up. Two other apartments in the same complex were hit up at the same time by two other students. So clearly they were all in on it together. They knew when the apartments would be empty/open and split up the targets. So Wells and MPB should be embarrassed. You’re going into criminal business with two punk kids who everyone will forget about in 12 minutes? You two are the football players who will make headlines, and sacrifice your full rides.
Scott Shafer may suspend them for the first two games of the season. He may only hold them out of Spring Practice. Me? I hope he tosses them both off the team. Marcus Sales is riding around with his brother’s drugs. Marquis Spruill wrestles with cops. Both returned to the squad.
But tag-teaming a South Campus apartment for a little TV and two iPods? They’re juniors in their second semesters. These are not snot-nosed freshman idiots who are a few months removed from prom.¬†Get them out of here. Give me a break. Toss them on grounds of stupidity. Your move Shafe.

No defense . Stupidity isn’t a way of avoiding felony charges. Prison time in exchange for football S &C If they can read and want to they are limited to the prison library.Andworrying about the NFL combines is no longer an issue to be concerned with any longer. You just can’t begin to imagine how dumb these kids are in reality. If I was Shafer I would call the entire team together in their meeting hall and lay out the consequences infull detail to the players. Any thoughts of doing anything like this should be viewed with these consequences.Two lives destroyed for crap.
One reason JUCO players are JUCO players!!
@D.A.
I talked with MPB when he came in with his girlfriend on Sunday at dinner time. He was upbeat asked if I was going to attend the scrimmages and go to the spring football game. A week ago Davon Walls came intpo the store and he too was upbeat about the team in general and was really excited about the new coaches. He came into the store again and his mood was completely different. Looked depressed and worried to me. I’m guessing this had to happen late Sunday Night and they knew the police were close to making arrest.
What confuses me the most is MPB and I have talked in the past and I thought he had a real good chance of going pro after he graduated and the same goes for Davon.
How can anyone with a chance of going pro and making millions,get a free education to boot,just throw it all away by doing something so stupid?
I agree with you conclusion that(no matter how it hurts)Coach Shafer has to make the decision to let these 2 players go.
sounds like Cam Newton….reasons why he left Florida for Junior College then Auburn (highest bidder), Heisman Trophy and then making $$$$$ in the NFL. Kids think they are above the law. I believe Doug Gottlieb falls into this category as well (idiot)
Thats interesting Ron. Makes me scratch my head. He has plans on going pro and decided to plan out a theft? It’s not like an emotional outburst at a bar or something reactionary. This is a plan that was hatched – a stupid one. Too bad.
I just don’t understand the decision making that some of these students are making. I really thought both of these guys were decent young men. I guess the old adage is true “YOU CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER.”
I just don’t get it D.A.,I just don’t get it.
Back when I was at SU, I witnessed a few people stealing a the spare tire off the back of my Chevy Blazer from my apartment in the middle of the night. It was an expensive tire and i was pissed. I didn’t see who did it, but my friends and i saw the car. A few days we saw the car parked on M street and flagged down a cop, who knew of the report i filed. They staked out the car and watched who’s it was. Turned out it was a member of the SU football team who was a jr but expected to be a big part of the team his senior year. (I will leave out his name). when the police asked me what I wanted to do, I just said i want my tire back, which was pretty expensive due to the wheels. The player admitted it was in his apartment, but he didn’t take it. I didn’t press charges and the whole thing went away and never appeared in the papers. This happened 20 years ago and i guess these things still happen.
@ Kelman – That is weird. i was there 20 years ago too and while I didn’t lose a tire, the tire cover was stolen off my Blazer. Odd Blazer related crime ring? I knew a bunch of guys and they were all pretty good guys. There were always a few who were very full of themselves, and rude as a result, but not bad guys, just jerks (and college students, so we were all a little young and dumb still). Theft was not a big thing when I was there (or I didn’t hear of it) Usually this kind of behavior was more retaliatory for some social wrong doing. In our day it was usually more acts of violence than robbery. Players tended to keepto themselves. I don’t know what to make of this behavior (or the Malcom Cater issue, or the UConn computers, or Gotlieb for that matter, but his seems one of an “untouchable” attitude, like the jerks I mention above).
@kelman;
Some things never change. Both players,Marcus Peirce Brewster and Davon Walls would have been starters on the defensive unit this year for Syracuse. Throwing a chance at getting(NFL)millions for a measly $950.00 just don’t make sense to me. Having a chance to meet these young men and talking with them really is giving me a hard time understanding it all.
I’m glad you got your tire back 20 years ago.
I don’t know know if `Cuse should be kicking anyone off the football team. Kendal Vickers response on twitter to Syracuse offering him? His words “LoL” yikes!
Carlton,as Rodney Dangerfield used to say “NO RESPECT”….we’ll just have to earn it on the field…btw we should rescind the offer to that wise ass K.Vickers we dont need his kind or the bad Karma taking too many JUCOs will bring….theirs a reason they’re JUCOs and taking more than 1 or 2 to fill a need is not the way (in general)to build a solid team!!Ron,better you meet some of these characters in the store than in your home if u value ur posessions or worse yet, walk in to uninvited guests!!Let them take out there frustrations and steal footballs off foes on the field!!
@Russell MacEachern;
Let’s see here Russell,The “C7” breaks away from the Big East conference and retains the BIG EAST name an LOGO. The remaining schools along with the newcomers joining them in a league called what the “American 12”. Here’s a prime example of political correctness gone amok. What in Sam Hell is going on, have people gone completely crazy?
@Carlton & Russ I have since heard that Vickers apologized for the misunderstanding and that he was trying to express surprise and happy astonishment. It was a bad choice of expressions. He may be a BS artist with a hell of a PR career in front of him, but I am inclined to forgive him if not believe him.
Also for the record, he is a class of 2013 guy who verbaled to South Carolina, but never signed. Maybe it was conditional and the offer came off the table. It’s clear where his heart is, but our guys took a shot rather than let him go to JuCo. I don’t think it was coincidence that this all happened a day after MPB is arrested for burglary
@Malone;
Are you indicating that we have a chance of getting this Vickers kid?
What position does he play?
I hate going against the conventional wisdom that some of us display on this web site,but guy’s not all players that attend Junior College are inmates. Everyone has to take a different path to accomplish their goal of playing in the NFL. We all should stop being so judgmental and try understanding better the reason for them to attend junior college.
@Ron;
I can’t say I know much about Vickers as a player let alone his thought process. That said, he is a DT and I don’t personally think we have much shot. He seems cemented on going to South Carolina to me. I don’t know why he didn’t sign with them when he still strongly professes to be verbally committed to them, so it feels like it’s something on Spurrier’s end holding that up. I think Shafer just took a shot on a 2-3 star with nothing really to lose.
@Malone–Thank you for returning the information on this Vickers kid. I hadn’t heard his name mentioned at all before today and was just wondering how it got by me.
Again thanks for the response.
OT a little but I have to share this and anybody can comfirm but a little birdie told me that SU and Nike are working on some Nike Pro Combat Uni’s for next season in the ACC. I hope this is true.
Did we kick DE Marinovich off team? Was he a criminal? His 1 accomplice wasn’t kicked out? They both played ball…. Did Fab Melo get kicked out for auto-abuse & mentally abusing that chick…”wats her name!”? No he didnt…
*how do I know the people robbed werent baby rapers, or “jack the ripper”? Or stole things themselves? …. @Orangefuzz is an outlet…let justice run its course.
*none of you idiots are innocent or non-sinners!!!!!!!!!!
Kelman & Malone…u pricks embarrass me! How could men let other men walk off with ya property…str8 yellow bellied p*ssies!
@BigDipWisdom;–From what I read in the paper concerning this event;Marcus Peirce Brewster did not,I repeat DID NOT,enter the apartment during the burglary. Davon Walls went in by himself and stole the merchandise.
Now if you were to stand next to him and take a good look at his size,the students that were robbed made a wise decision as to not engage the suspect during the robbery. He stands all of 6’5″ and goes 325 lbs. and is built like a brick shit-house.
So,please let me ask,would you have? The other thing is,”who’s the prick here”?
In defense of Fab Melo–you sure as hell wouldn’t like my response to your foolish rant about him and his girlfriend.
Both of the gentlemen that you’ve mentioned(Kelman & Malone)have made some honest remarks here and shouldn’t be called pricks. Back off a little on your criticism this isn’t the Syr.Com web site.
Damn Ron,remember that local kid Nasean Howard RB from Genessee we gave a pr offer to?He accepted so we’ve basically thrown one away for PR?I know people who seen him who says hes not a D1 player…..he’s the 1 kid I prayed did’nt accept cause theres some really GREAT RBs in tha NY/NJ area this year!!
Russell, I’m going to make every effort this fall to go watch him play so that I can form my own opinion on him. You know how it is,when you put 10 people together to watch or listen to something,everyone of the ten are going to come away with their own opinion and all are going to be different.
Last year I went and watched Tyler Rouse in the sectionals played in the dome. I have to give him credit because if he wasn’t running the ball the QB was throwing to him. It seemed like he was the only offense that Baldwinsville could muster. He must have touched the ball at least 50 times and we both know he’s not going to do that at the D1 level.
This Howard kid is bigger,lets wait and see what happens this fall. I also know that Syracuse is going after some real RB’s out of the NYC/NJ/Chicago area’s that are studs and play against some real D1 talent. I hate to say this but the Syracuse area doesn’t produce those kinds of players on a consistent basis like they do at DBP or Bergen Catholic High Schools. It’s just not the same.
You and the others might be right,Syracuse might be after another that’s on the team and offered Howard to get to him.
Ron,Ive asked 3 or 4 others I trust and wondered why RU while their combing NY did’nt offer!The answer I kept getting?He’s not as good as at least 4 RBs in even Conn??Cooper,Outlaw and at least 2/3 or 3 others I can’t even think of right now in just a State that puts out as little talent as Conn!!Ive seen reports on this board from guys whove followed him who live in Camillus say not to take him that the kid Terry was pushing last yr was better and nobody but Terry complained when we watched BC take him?I would have at least gotten some wind of him if he was a RR sleeper?Only some clowns like HtownCuse or Texas Mark on the other board are raving like he’s the next Ray Rice!!I know u’ll make ur own mind up like I’ve “for now” made up mine!!Waste…Where so deep there and theirs real talent at RB this year …why him?How about that Samuel’s kid in NYC?
Ron we all have to form our own opinions but everyone I’ve asked who I trust say the same thing….maybe if he’s bigger than Rouse we could try him as a DB?…yeah Ron, Rouse is who I was thinking about!!Its a good year in NY/NJ and Conn for BIGTIME RB talent…and remember the type of talent Howards stats were built on?..not impressive!!But its just good to be talking FB huh Ron?Im going nuts studying next years recruits!!
Yeah Ron,I heard that “funny” story….a 300+ LBer goes in the apt while the 245 LBer plays chicky lol…whose gonna confront these guys w/o a weapon??..Are u nephew?(bigdip)!!haha..there’s brave and there’s stupid!!If Ron or I won’t confront him…..who will?lol..
Russell I believe that there is a ton of RB’s in the NYC?NJ area that we should go real hard after. But who am I to say that the coaches don’t know what they’re doing.
They must have seen something in this kid to offer. Do you remember Damien Rhodes when he was our RB. Well he’s now the coach over at Fayetteville-Manilus and he says that he has an OLB and DE that are D1 players. I’m going to make an effort to go see them play too Russ.
Russel,as you know I’ve been singing the praises of George Morris III as one of our RB’s for over a year now,and as far as I’m concerned I really don’t care who they bring in,they’re not going to take the starting role away from him.
I’ve also read that there is a big powerful running back from Chicago that they’re after. We all need to be patient and wait to see what unfolds here. I for one who believes that Coach Shafer and his staff knows what they’re doing.
Russell, I think that it’s hard to know what anyone of the football players are capable of accomplishing.
How many of us out here thought that Jerome Smith would be the animal he turned out to be last year gaining over 1000 yards? NOT ONE OF US saw that coming.
Yeah kids can surprise u but I think at SU we should be able to pick up a few walk-ons of potential promise….for every Dion Lewis theres 12 busts…..ur right about the fact we have enough talent at RB that we dont need to take shots right now at that position…..J.Smith is a good bull back but against a solid run D he wont make muster unless their worried about our passing game….remember my HS Ironhead Heyward game story?…and JS aint no Ironhead type talent…..I think ur right about G.Morris becoming a beast next year tho and we’ll need him too till our QB situation becomes clear!!I wish DA would slip more FB storys on here about recruiting!
Ron,I dont think our new staff knows much about NY kids yet?HCSS mostly covered the D and everyone else is new!
@dip I assume you’re being funny. I have no idea who took my tire cover. Was I supposed to call SU Public Safety? This was before they had any real power. My car was in the lot at the Slocum/Link loading dock illegally. They’d have ticketed me. Do you think they’d have dusted my spare for finger prints? Anyway, on the yellow belly stuff, after some of what I saw, I would think twice about going after some of the players I knew. Mike Edwards supposedly shot up a bouncer’s car outside Sutter’s. it’s why he got the boot and one of the reasons Sutter’s isn’t there anymore. I have it on good knowledge he wasn’t alone and he wasn’t the only one packing
@Malone;
I’m in corner on this one bud. I’m not familiar with the Mike Edwards incident. I don’t think that was ever in the papers back then.
Anyways,do you think that “BigDipWisdom” is the same person as our “bigdipper” who posts here?
Nasean Howard was offered under the impresssion he might get a shot to play free safety.
@ Ron,
No I don’t. Russ loves that guy so I can’t assume this is the same guy. The Mike Edwards thing get very little press. I don’t think the bouncers were innocent on it and the club didn’t want any un-needed attention (it was a bar then that allowed minors in and was most lenient on making sure they didn’t get served. They were watched like hawks). My understanding is that Mike was kicked out and got into it with the bouncers. They followed him out and I guess treatesd him roughly. He came back later with some other guys from the team and “mistreated” the bouncer’s car.
I don’t really care what this dip says, it was so silly a comment that I assume it was meant to be funny. I don’t really get the humor, but I guess he or she is having a laugh. Smiles for everyone!
@Malone;
I don’t think that both are the same person either.
But what bothers me the most,is when one person doesn’t like what the other has to say,that they start using vulgar language while calling people dirty names.
For me “Malone” it’s uncalled for in any situation. I guess when in school he must have done poorly in English class.
Malone,Ron,I think its someone trying to immitate Dip as hes usually not that crude espescially w/o core group of friends?..Malone,didnt u read my comment/rebuttal to (Dipwisdom)??I said they’res a difference btw bravery and stupidity!!Our Dipper is a respectful kid!!
@Russ-I read your comment, and I also knew that if you liked him, he’d be OK in my book. That’s why I don’t think it’s the same person. Ron, I think the name calling was/is meant to get a rise out of the other person. Some find blind confrontation on these boards a major part of the reason and enjoyment of being here. I am not one. I am not that easily riled up.
@Russell MacEachern;
Damn good posts Russell and I agree, I don’t think it was the Dipper who made the original crude remarks to Kelman & Malone.
Malone,theirs a few guys on this board I really like but if they step out of line I wouldnt hold it against anyone for cutting loose on em….my list of favs is Ron,Carlton,Malone(you) and usually bigdip ha ha…tho sometimes I wonder if he imbibes before posting?….I like him cause hes usually respectful,loyal and protective of the older posters…good quality’s!!

Marcus Pierce Brewster and Davon Walls kicked off of team for breaking team rules. Such a sad ending to promising careers for both players. As reported in the Post Standard Davon Walls returns to court in a couple of weeks to face charges of felony larceny and Marcus Pierce-Brewster is split from the other three and has to appear in front of a grand jury. It just befuddles the hell out of me as to what possessed these two young men to do such a stupid thing that would cause both of them their freedom.
I think you have some of the story wrong. The other two students were the victims of the football players and then decided to steal to replace what was stolen.
As for the Mike Edwards story was he Anthony Harris and another player were drinking at Sutters and didn’t want to leave at closing time. There was a fight (Anthony Harris lost his front teeth after falling on his face after being choked out) and Mike Edwards went back and knocked all the windows out (I thought it was a hammer but maybe it was a gun)
I also think howard will play safety we have Morris who I also believe will be big in other running back ideas does any one know if Ameen-Moore is gone for good? That leaves us with Rome and PTG this year and Morris past that I think we will pull in a 3 star running back because immediate playing time is very questionable I think the biggest surprise will be a wide receiver from the south thats in the espn 150 the fact that mcdonald can jump in so late for the #3 wr in the nation makes me think we can at least pull in say the #11 wr let everyone else worry about rb’s we have Morris and Broyld if we need him
@Brian;
I’m not disputing that fact that two were not football players and two were. As reported 3 of the participants that broke into the apartments were in court either on Monday or Tuesday and have to return at later dates for trial on felony burglary charges. Marcus Pierce-Brewster was split from from Davon Walls and the other two students and has to appear in front of a grand jury sometime next week.
I don’t care if they were football players or not they(all 4)broke into someones house and robbed them.
@Cuse Don’t Luse—Does any one know if Ameen-Moore is gone for good?
This is the first I’ve heard about him leaving. Where did you get that information from? I agree with your statement on George Morris III and the fact that Coach Shafer and staff is going after receivers that stand 6’3″ tall and weigh 190/200 lbs. Have we ever gone after anyone with that size? It’s going to be real interesting to watch this year.
Guys your babbling again!!! Their gone and good riddance. My question is does Howard have a issue in his back ground too?? As for Rouse he’s far better than Howard as a RB. Just check out the film. Howard if no skeltons in his closet is only a DB and nothing else!! Lets see if Howard makes NYS GATORADE POY!! I’ll stop my babbling!!
Ameen-Moore was suspended for the Pinstripe bowl, that must be Cuse Don’t Luse is referring too. I believe that Ameen-Moore will return though.
@Dubs,I thought the reason Adonis Ameen-Moore didn’t play in the Bowl game was due to an injury and the injury was taken care of after the season ended.
I haven’t heard anything on hi being kicked/suspended off of the team.
@Brian – Think you have the Mike Edwards story right, and I believe I heard from a reliable source that Conrad McRae was the third guy you speak of. The gun story was another story about the same time that was never reproted (to the law). It involved a duffle bag of guns like in the movie Falling Down and apparently more than a few of the hoops team members. Somebody on South Campus messed with one of theirs.

This is the article that talks about the suspension.
