With Midnight Madness a little over a week away, hoops recruiting is heating up for Jim Boeheim and staff. With visitors coming and going, as well as prospects cutting their lists of college options and seeing which coaches are coming to workouts, this is a rigorous time for the Orange to cement their status with the class of 2013 and 2014. Here is a preview of Saturday’s basketball recruiting segment on Fizz Radio.
- Saturday, SU will host a priority recruit in Tyler Roberson, who is scheduled to take an official visit to campus for Family Weekend.
After a trip to SMU, and another to Kansas in the next two weeks, will the Orange be able to land this priority forward for the class of 2013? He projects to be the perfect Syracuse-type player, and would be a huge get for SU. 
- Could Syracuse really land a player out of Arizona? Dorian Pickens is a class of ’14 talent and made his way to campus this past Thursday.
Pickens actually has family in upstate New York and is a legitimate option for the Orange. Arizona State, Boston College, Oklahoma and others are recruiting him hard.¬†He has offers from ASU and New Mexico, but SU will also have to battle a future ACC foe in Boston College to land him. The Eagles also have an offer out to the shooting guard. He¬†doesn’t blow you away with any of his skills on offense, but makes shots from all over the court, facilities the offense and he can also contribute without the ball.¬†
- Syracuse commit Tyler Ennis leads a pack of talented recruits into Midnight Madness. Currently, there will be four major names attending from the classes of 2013, 2014 and 2015. We’ll go over them on Saturday.
Last year, Midnight Madness at the Dome was a smashing success. Ennis was in attendance, and that helped land him for the Orange. So was Nerlens Noel, and Isaiah Briscoe. The stars will shine. 
- Jim Boeheim has dipped into Detroit before with Derrick Coleman back in the 1990’s. He has a shot to do it once more with five-star recruit James Young. With the perennial McDonald’s All American down to four schools, will Young flock from one frozen tundra to another?
Young is reminiscent of a more explosive Michael Redd, and compares favorably to Nick Young. The big boys are all in on him, including nearby Michigan State. His finalists look like any season’s preview of a potential Final Four: Kentucky, Michigan State, Kansas and Syracuse.
With Roberson being the first official visitor of the fall for Syracuse, can they bring a few more seniors on campus soon? Three names come to mind as recruits who could take a trip to the 315 this fall or winter.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
