New York State’s top footballer Ebenezer Ogundeko just tweeted “Time waits for no man.” And that sums up the drumbeat march to his decision in four days.
Tuesday is a potentially monumental day for Syracuse football. When Doug Marrone took over four years ago, it was uncertain where the Orange train was headed. Groobers had driven it into the side of a mountain, carnage for the entire nation to see. But after dragging the carcass back up the Hill, and fostering important relationships throughout New York State and the five boroughs, Ebenezer Ogundeko’s decision may well set SU onto a different course.
Marrone tried to land Ishaq Williams, Jarron Jones and Chad Kelly. All of these Empire State products chose bigger programs (Notre Dame and Clemson). But Marrone told me at Big East Media Day last summer that when they finally landed one of the big fish in-state, it would likely lead to others. But Doug warned me it had to be the right kid. The type of student-athlete who wouldn’t be swayed by the peer pressure of going somewhere with more cache.
Where will Ebo choose? No idea. I do believe it’s extraordinarily close and Syracuse stands a really good shot. Judging from his Twitter, he’s playing it very cool. Ogundeko is a regular tweeter, and responds to a high number of his followers. But he also has retweeted supporters equally from all three of his finalists, pushing for him to choose their school. Pretty clever.

Here I can smell it…only concern is the Irish…don’t see EO disappearing into gatorland..not happening..
I like our chances. Did Ishaq even see the field last year? I understand he was a true freshman but I have a feeling he’s buried on the depth chart and may not see the field until junior or senior year. If he comes to SU he’s a special teamer as a freshman and most likely a starter by sophomore season. I don’t think that ND offers anything that Syracuse can not. THey are both great academic institutions in fairly small rust belt cities. ND does get 80K every game, however 49,950 in a Dome is louder and more fun to play in than most venues. If EO comes to SU, he started Freshman year and becomes the face of the defense along with Wayne Williams for the next couple of years. Marrone and staff deserves a lot of credit for sticking with the recruiting plan. They knew there would be disappointments along the way, but perseverance has paid off and you can see the NY pipeline starting to take shape. Here’s to 4 years of EO! G’ORANGE
Ishaq played last year as a rfeshman but didn’t put up very good numbers and was not the starter.
Regardless if OE chooses us The Fizz needs to move on in the quest for the next big fish on zDou’s list . Officer Laray or the one after that. It doesn’t matter if the prospect is in this state or another . ,we need to move on . The OE decision has been made in the kid’s mind we need to presume thw worse and move on.

Yeah, I don’t think we have to assume the worst. Its an exciting time for SU football fans with a terrific summer for Marrone. EO would be the icing on the cake – but either way, this will be a very quality class and the SU coaching staff deserves kudos for it.
