Well, I have absolutely no idea what to make of this. Syracuse basketball, local politics and the media have created a three-ring circus at the center of a Soap Net tornado. Honestly, what the hell is going on? Bernie Fine’s wife was dating Bobby Davis. The father of a third accuser says his son is lying. The tape of the phone call may have been edited. This thing is making Passions¬†seem tame. Dream sequence flashbacks between witches and midgets during tsunamis seems more realistic.
First, Fine needed to be fired. No problem with that decision by Syracuse University. It may be jumping the gun on his guilt, but how much more fallout can the school withstand¬†with the utter absurdity that is unfolding? Fact is, even if Fine cannot or will not be prosecuted because of shaky testimony, lack of evidence or the expiration of the statute of limitations, he represents SU. And when his wife is on tape telling Davis “you trusted somebody you shouldn’t have trusted,” Fine becomes an inoperable tumor.
Does this mean Jim Boeheim knew everything? Is this SU admitting Fine is guilty.¬†Not necessarily. But I’m not sure what to believe anymore. It’s impossible to rule anything out. Two weeks ago if you were told Bernie’s wife had a sexual relationship with Davis when he was a senior in high school, how off the grid would that suggestion have been?
Oh by the way, the Syracuse DA has “declared war” on the city’s police department, if you’re scoring at home. Yeah, and the third accuser, Zach Tomaselli, is facing his own sexual assault charges on a 14-year-old boy and his dad says he’s making it up. Not to be glib, but Syracuse is taking ridiculousness to an all-time high. Every day the story tops itself. We laugh in the face at your pathetic scandals of tattoos or yachts. Go big or go home. This is the single most absurd Lifetime movie ever.
As I’ve written before, there’s an extreme severity to any child molestation charges. No one is taking Fine’s potential crimes lightly. The athletic department should feel incredible guilt over housing someone with these skeletons and the authorities should prosecute Fine to the fullest if there’s evidence to support he’s guilty. But the incestuous and bizarre soap opera that is unfolding is making it hard to keep the base tenants in focus.
What’s going to pop up next? Gerry McNamara is William Fitzpatrick’s nephew? Boeheim uses human dwarfs to lawn bowl? Nancy Cantor and Mike Lang opened a hookah shop together in Armory?
Fine is fired. His wife was hooking up with Davis. And SU hoops is a top 5 team in the country. As Kanye and Jay-Z might say, this ish is cray.

andy katz and gotlieb say boehiems is doing a complete 180 and is being contradictory, yet bobby davis is apparently getting choked up and saying that he got boehiem to change his mind about somthing he didnt know was going on means the world to him. I mean how could someone think the person they knew and trusted was doing such sick stuff behind his back. Im not saying fine is guilty or innocent because this whole story seems really fishy and inconsistent to me still especially with Tomisello or whoever using this as an excuse to commit his sexcrimes. But if he is guilty I would think espn needs to be punished severly for waiting years to bring those tapes foward and not even telling the university about them, while the employ a possible predator for years.
The whole thing seems so unbelievable right now. It could all be completely true, completely false, or anything in between. Good luck to whoever is responsible for sorting out this mess.
It’s good that they fired Fine though. The University needs to separate themselves from this. It doesn’t sound like the University dropped the ball in their handling of this situation, at least from what we know so far. If anyone should’ve done more it’s the Syracuse PD.

Important nugget I learned last night – The Post-Standard had the tape as well when ESPN first got it. They, like ESPN, had no one else to corroborate the story and thus the tape wasn’t enough.
They also hadn’t released the tape this week because they were running it by lawyers and still were AFTER ESPN released it. I know everyone loooves to kill ESPN but there are other factors to remember and the Post-Standard had nearly all the same info. Whether you think they’re both right or wrong is I guess up to you.
There is blood in the water now…..Jimmy B. better get some good legal representation………they are going after him next….once JOE PA…went down…..no one is safe are they…We are talking about Joe Pa!!!.. ESPN…they were like the Poker player holding a Full House….and talking trash prior to playing his hand! They had the tape since 2005…they took lead on the story in a very negative way from start knowing what they had in hand……Coach B…….Had a right to support his friend..if he had no evidence to the contrary and stated what he would do if he was presented with such evidence…once some came forward. he issued an apology….No crime there….but the unfortunate part is that people want blood….and they won’t stop until some more is spilled….and it may be Boeheim’s………

@ DR Bill, your comment is way off the charts incorrect. Boeheim will not get fired for this because he did not know/cover up anything. All you people that keep thinking this is a mirror reflection of the pSU scandal should read the facts. Joe Pa KNEW about his Defensive coordinator raping little boys through a charity outreach program and didnt say anything to protect the football team.
The reason Bernie was fired was because just 1 day before all of this came out, Cantor sent out a letter saying they wont tolerate any such acts and termination would be the punishment. She kept her word and he is gone.
Bernie has a lot more to deal with and I am glad that SU cut ties with that pervert, back to basketball please?

Reread my post dude…I agree with stance Coach B took in defense of his friend….I never said he knew or covered up anything…What I stated is that media/public…..people out there want more blood….and Boeheim may be next victum…..I gor Nancy Cantor’s letter…she is phenomenal and has handles it well. But people across the country…are calling for Boeheim’s head

what made ESPN think that it was up to them to decide if the tape was real, why didn’t they hand over to the police and let them do their analysis- why was the tape only given to the Post and ESPN, not the police, not SU….just seems there’s more to the story than what we know
Good question Jeff. Why would Davis only give the tape to the media outlets, not the university or the police? There’s so much bizarre twists in all of this, I have no idea what to expect next.
This tape been out for a few days. Why hasnt fine been arrested an charged? The tape points to him bein guilty but the police havent done anythin? 3 ppl have come frwd an the tape but no1 in cuffs. Im lost
