Syracuse is now the favorite in the Big East.
I know, it’s crazy and it’s early and it’s only one game and I’m running on late night Otto adrenaline. The Orange has been defined this season by inconsistency, so the phrase, “If they can play like this every week…” is like asking to stumble upon an open bank vault. But on Friday night at approximately 7:59p, West Virginia was the surest bet for the league’s BCS bid. The Mountaineers had throttled almost every team on their schedule, and had crushed Coach P’s Huskies by four touchdowns. WVU’s only loss came at the hands of the #1 team in the country, LSU. The ‘neers had Geno Smith and a fresh young coach, weapons galore and were a top 15 program with a beatable league in front of them.

And then Orange happened. What was that? Ryan Nassib’s night was near perfect, going 21-of-29, 210, three TDs, no INTs and a passer rating of 14,000. The rushing attack was ruthless, piling up nearly 200 yards on the ground, and SU was coldly efficient on third down, converting 12-of-17 chances. The offense moved the ball at will, hit kill shot after kill shot, and it looked and felt like the Dome was home to to greatness again.

No play was bigger than Dorian Graham’s run to daylight. WVU had closed the gap to four points and the Carrier faithful was waiting for the real Orange to show up. Just around the corner lurked the instant offense of the Mountaineers, combined with some lethargic SU play-calling, a swing in momentum and CNY would retire to its beds still waiting for that “turning point game” Syracuse football fans have been starved for.
But Graham blew the doors off the building, ripping apart the WVU special teams for 98-yards and you knew this night would be different.
The mojo has officially changed for SU football. It wasn’t that long ago we cursed and hurled things at the television when the Orange was manhandled by everyone including Akron. The Dougie now has it – his turning point game. No, there’s no guarantee SU wins the rest of its games or makes the BCS. Hell, the Orange probably won’t have another game in which it plays like that.
But Syracuse has a tipping point moment, where the fans can rush back and the recruits can see it on TV and Orange football rocks again. Right now SU is the best team in the Big East. Even if it’s for one night.

Damn, you orange-gizzards are back, too bad youre headed for the ACC, the almost credible conference.
I haven’t been at a game like that since… ever! It was so unreal, surreal… complete and utter domination of one of the best teams in the country. So, will Cuse be ranked or will WVU be unranked? I guess we’ll see. Anyways, that was the best crowd I’ve ever seen in the Dome.
The only criticism is that we should’ve gotten Ameen Moore some reps in the 4th quarter, maybe a few more earlier in the game too.
Syracuse showed how much that trophy means to them. I have never been happier in my short time watching The Orange. This game is as important as any, if not the most important. They played like men and WV played like boys. They got disrespected as a football program and got overlooked by WV again. Paybacks a bitch.
My son and I were watching the game on our PC with my oldest son (who lives in NC) texting us about all the great plays, etc during the game. Facebook was going wild, too. After every score we text TOUCHDOWN!!!! Great Great game, Go SU. P.S. Sent game pics to my PSU cuz!
Cincinnati is now the favorite in the Big East. They’ve only lost one game, and that was at Tennessee. Hopefully the Dome will be as alive when Cincy comes to town next month – hopefully with a Big East title on the line.

Not sure which box score you’re reading but Nassib was 24/32 for 229 yards and 4 TD’s (5 if you count the one he ran in).

Syracuse completely dominated West Virginia on both sides of the ball. This young defense took a huge step forward to becoming one of the best in the nation. Seeing Geno Smith on his backside most of the game was tremendous. The 4 sacks wasn’t bad either. Dorian Grahms 98 yard kickoff return was exciting to watch. I can’t overlook the fans that were there, just fantastic. Syracuse gave us a complete team effort which made this old man very happy.
I hope this carries over to the next 2 games and they don’t look forward to the game against South Florida.
In one of my earlier post on the Fizz I predicted Syracuse to win this game and go 10-2 for the year. I now believe DA that Syracuse will be playing Pittsburgh for the Big East Championship on Dec. 3rd.
I wonder what the commisioner is thinking now? I hope they continue to stick it in his A$$.
