Syracuse Has Its In-Home Visit Today With Hoops Stud Jerami Grant

It’s a Big East threesome with Rutgers, Notre Dame and the Orange still in play.

Jerami Grant‚Äôs can’t seem to decide where he wants to go to college, and that may end up benefitting Syracuse. The hoops recruit, and son of former NBA’er Harvey Grant, considered schools from the Big 12, including his dad’s alma mater, Oklahoma. He’s also thought about staying home and playing for the Terps. His recruiting saga continues as¬†The Washington Post reported just days ago that Grant’s decision was down to Rutgers and Maryland, but that story was immediately denied by Grant’s AAU coach, Keith Stevens.

Now, the Terps are out and he’s added two other finalists along with the Scarlet Knights: Notre Dame and SU. The Irish may have the inside track – his brother attends ND. Grant has in-home visits scheduled with all three schools starting with Syracuse today, so he could make his decision within the next few weeks. He took an unofficial visit to CNY last month.

The Orange does not have a single player committed for the next class, meaning Grant’s recruitment takes on much greater significance. The ‘Cuse recently lost out on two top prospects, Jake Layman and Ricardo Ledo, and other top players have begun to commit elsewhere. At this time last year, The Per’fesser and Murphkins had their full recruiting class of Michael Carter Williams, Rakeem Christmas and Trevor Cooney already secured.

There are other players the Orange are after including local phenom DaJuan Coleman and Amile Jefferson of Philadelphia, but not having a single commitment this late in the game is a concern. Apparently, Syracuse is relying heavily on securing Coleman, but the Orange is going up against perhaps the best recruiter in the country for DC 2.0. Assuming you can beat John Calipari may not be wise. SU has been especially successful recruiting in the last few years, so it’s raised many eyebrows there are no players committed yet.

Getting Grant would be big. He fits the Syracuse prototype – long, athletic and can run the floor – all critical to play for Boeheim. Grant needs to develop more of an offensive game, but there is little doubt about his potential. While the Three Amigos should be taking over next season, you can never have enough talent and depth on the wing at Syracuse.

With RU and ND in the mix, Syracuse is competing for Grant with two league schools. While the three are usually competing for football recruits, it’s rare they all duel on the AAU circuit. Mike Rice seems to be turning the program in Piscataway around and the Orange doesn‚Äôt want to get in the habit of losing offseason basketball battles to RU. Notre Dame has sniped some big recruits from The Dougie recently and it would be nice to get a measure of revenge. More importantly, the Orange don‚Äôt want to see Grant in an opposing uniform within the Big East for the next four basketball seasons.

Ultimately, it will be Coleman who will make or break the Syracuse class for many fans and media, but securing a highly sought-after recruit like Grant would be a great kick-start to a slow recruiting season for the Orange.

Very nice. I hope Kaleb Tarczewki signs /w UK bc it would make it easyer on the `Cuse to sign DC but OSU seems to be very much in the race to. Only thing about Grant is his brother plays at ND and I guess theres been talks about playing togther. Last thing y hasnt JB went after a pg the last couple of seasons? Does he think triche is going to play pg after this season? or maybe mcw?

Coleman will be coming to su, he was stated only doing this so he could see how the season turns out and what the playing time situations will be for him. But Beohiem will promise him pt and him to start and then he will come. I actually think bigger get for the cuse would be Nerlens Noel who has been rumored to want to reclassify himself to 2012 so he would be eligible for the MCd AA game. he has recently stated cuse was the frontrunner because they have been at his games frm the beggining and he doesnt remember a game where he didnt see people from the cuse watching him. He said the have alway been recruiting him the hardest and that MCW is one of his best friends and thats gonna play a huge part in his decision. Ledo said similiar things but i think Noel is someone you can take more seriously.

Carlton, there hasnt been any needs for pg, unless theres a massive group of players who go pro next year, scoop is the only gaurd we will lose. Triche knows how to play point(see the season before last) beohiem has been quoted saying MCW is a 6’5″ pg who can do it all, and waiters could transition to point easily due to his quikness and ballhadling skills. All 3 of those players have been considered combo guards and i predict all three will be playing pg during their careers.

Noel would be a sweet addition!!! But I’ve yet to find where he mentioned Syracuse at all. I’ve seen articles and interviews where N2 says that Kentucky is very interested – insert barfing sound here. He also calls Ledo “his boy”, but not MCW. Noel says he wants to talk with Ledo about schools Ledo has had experiences with vis-a-vis recruiting. I’ve also seen articles mentioning how Providence has very silently put together an amazing backcourt and that Noel would give them something they haven’t had in a while – a serious front court presence Big East opponents would have to contend with.

I’ll keep digging Kevin – but I hope you are correct about Coleman AND Noel. Am I too greedy??? Haha!

Did find some vids where Noel talks about SU, UCONN, Florida, etc. He visited ‘Cuse not too long ago, but I can’t find any talk of the visit. Can the Fizz get the scoop on how it went?

Kevin- They are combo guards. I dont really like triche as a pg. Hes kinda slow footed but he has time to get better. Samthing /w deion. U talk like hes a good ball handler must have been watchin different games last yr then me b/c I didnt see it.

Noel and DC would be huge gets. Ledo was firends /w just mcw but he had a bunch of firends on the team at prov. I dont think Noel has any firends on any other team thats after him besides prov. and the `Cuse. I did see Noel play this summer and hes legit. PPl have compared him to bill russell and he plays like it to.

Thanks, Kevin! I’ve noticed several sites don’t even have Syracuse listed, but I know they’re jacked up as Noel has indeed mentioned SU in videos. I’d never pay for “premium recruiting sites” that are embarrassingly a day late and dollar short or just flat out wrong.
