There‚Äôs a chance Syracuse is back in the hunt for David “Boom” Perkins, who had previously committed to Notre Dame. The running back from South Bend, IN seemed genuinely interested in the Orange before choosing his hometown team. ESPN has reported that South Bend athlete David ‚ÄúBoom‚Äù Perkins is not¬†‚Äútotally done with the recruiting process despite being committed to Notre Dame‚Äù (hat tip to Fizz commenter Carlton).
‚Äú‚ÄòI kind of think it’s a commitment, but you only get to do this once,‚Äô said Perkins.‚Äù
Based on the way Boom announced his decision, his hesitancy to completely commit to the Irish is surprising. He held a press conference at his high school in front of many reporters and friends, and at that point his decision seemed very final.
Beyond that, though, it would make sense that Perkins is having second thoughts. After declaring Syracuse as the front-runner for some time, Perkins changed his mind extremely quickly in early June. He delivered his commitment to the Irish shortly after Brian Kelly offered him, which felt odd considering how much he liked Syracuse.
Last month, Scout.com’s Allen Trieu told The Fizz how close Boom was to choosing Orange.
“The only thing that had kept him from [committing to SU] was actually getting to meet some of the coaching staff in person. I know he wanted to commit to the head coach in person and Syracuse being as far away as it is from South Bend, he couldn’t get out there.”
Apparently, Perkins and his family were having so much trouble getting to CNY for a visit that it made them rethink whether he should attend a school that far from home. With his high school coach, Antwon Jones, being Notre Dame alum, it’s easy to see how Boom was quickly convinced to go with the Irish.
Now that it’s deeper into the summer, maybe the Syracuse coaches can capitalize off Perkins not necessarily being in such close contact with Jones. The recruit has always had an excellent relationship with the SU staff, as Jones told The Fizz back in June.
“One of the [reasons why Syracuse sticks out] I think is that Coach Wheatley has established a great rapport with him.”
Wheatley and the rest of the coaches need to rekindle their relationship with Perkins and push for him to finally visit Syracuse. Maybe he’ll remember why he put SU in the lead in the first place.

I believe that once he sits down and thinks through his decision,the right choice for him will be to come to Syracuse. Playing time will almost be immediate. As a fan I can only hope that this young man makes the right decision.

The day Perkins chose ND, i asked in the comments section, what is stopping him from still visiting ‘Cuse? Just because you make a verbal means nothing (example: Jarron Jones).
I feel that he needs to make a trip up here to help weigh his decision.
We need to get this kid to the Cuse on a greyhound ASAP……. Of all the Big Fish who have gotten away, Perkins is the one that I felt really missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime by not choosing the Cuse. At Notre Dame, at best he could be a great player in a long line of great players… at the Cuse, he could be the face of a program on the rise to elite and become a media Darling like no where else. Go Cuse. I would have Floyd Little meet him at the bus station…
I wish the staff would have flown out to see him. Maybe they still can, because I doubt he’s going to visit now unless something changes. It sounds like if he’s opening his recruiting, it’s for Oregon.

That comment he made to ESPN was taken TOTALLY out of context. I do not see him going Orange. Also, he doesn’t want to play RB.

Back to the domino theory, if you drop one dominoe, then 2 more will drop and so on until your scholarships(dominoes) run out. Marrone’s line will always be fine and Provo is on the Mackey list. Nassib looks like a more valid qb than last year. Bailey will add a recieving aspect that Carter didn’t bring to the table and Moore will thrive under goal line touches. Harris back for another year at fb. Receiving core looks strongest I can remember with lemon sales and chew returning as well as west who was injured last year,but also look out for big target Clem ing and new addition kobena. Defensively safeties are strongly anchored by thomas’s. Corner won’t be as big of a problem as thought of with kevyn Scott Keon lyn rishard Anderson and converted wr reddish. At lb, qspruil sounds more comfortable at MLB, Davis sounds exciting and diabate and lynch sound like tackling machines, while dan Vaughan sounds above average and fundamentally sound . The d line has plenty of big bodies like 330 freshman crume, as well as returning d ends, dline looks overall deeper than expected and is full of upper classmen, so overall cuse will be better next year and will get back to being an empire. With all this in tact, we have domino potential for big recruits. Excuse my grammar and go cuse!

Even Rutgers is getting big time recruits yes I said freaking rutgers we lost saving huggins to them and now we are about to lose the bosco kids to them. Perkins is recruiting for us and he will play for the Irish and so will Jarring if Penn State or Rutgers and yes freaking Rutgers(who will get an official visit wtf) steps on our toes. who says no one with big time offers would want to play in upstate NY, the cuse gets big time recruits for other sports like basketball and lacross for example, so why not football. In my opinion with the program on the rise the big time recruits will start the commit. Right now we have guys considering us when just a few years ago they never would have. It is only a matter of time before the big time guys start comming in.
