SU recruit Dom Timbers is expected to join the Lackawanna College Falcons this spring to try and get his academic career back on track. Timbers left the City College of San Francisco in November, according to his mother, Cassandra Reese.
Reese is concerned for her son’s playing career, and tells The Fizz Timbers is “not doing much of anything right now,” following his return to Pennsylvania from San Francisco. She said she was contacting Syracuse University to see if her son still has a scholarship available to him, should he get his act together.
The Fizz was looking for Timbers back in January, when he curiously didn’t show up on the City College of San Francisco’s football roster.
A commenter named “Coach” left a link on The Fizz under that post stating Timbers would be joining the Lackawanna College Falcons, a juco team in Pennsylvania, per the team’s website. He would be playing football this season, according to the news release.
Falcons coach Mark Duda confirmed to The Fizz by phone that Timbers will be enrolled at Lackawanna this spring and will be eligible to compete in the fall. It’s assumed he would be joining the college for the summer session, which begins on May 23rd.
This makes things murky for Timbers. Does he have a scholarship to SU? Is Lackawanna the route to get there? If he is at home, not enrolled, will he simply arrive next month, as Duda suggested? The answer to one question has raised about 50 others regarding a player SU expected to have this past season.
Everyone knows the Orange could use another body at running back, especially after Antwon Bailey leaves. Timbers’ road has been beset by academic obstactles from the start. One has to wonder if the team would still consider taking on the dynamic tailback.
A story like this reminds you that for every Terrel Hunt that overcomes adversity, there is another recruit that ends up playing his way out of D-1. Right now, that would appear to be Timbers.
