While Team Ishaq remains on the fence, this morning the defensive end was asked by BlueandGold.com if rumors that he’d finally picked a school were true. His response was short, but to the point.
“Nah its not.”
If you’re a Syracuse fan waiting anxiously for Ishaq Williams to make a decision, you’d better hope the delay continues.
And we’re well aware that for the SU fans following the Ishaq saga as closely as Team Fizz has, that‚Äôs a lot to ask.
The announcement was supposed to come Saturday, and the Orange was the favorite. Instead, the wait has been dragged out at least four extra days, and the Nittany Lions now appear to be sitting in the driver’s seat.
That’s not what Ishaq’s father Shaun said yesterday, though. He maintains that Penn State, Notre Dame, and Syracuse all still have an equal shot at getting his son.
Despite his father’s statements to the contrary, The Fizz believes Ishaq has been waiting for coaches Tom Bradley and Larry Johnson to either stay or leave Penn State, based on the cryptic reason he gave for delaying his decision in the first place.
“There’s some information that came up and I want to make sure it settles out first. I’m just waiting for everything to stabilize at a particular school. I can’t really discuss that, sorry.”
So if he was talking about PSU, and he truly is just waiting to make sure his recruiter Larry Johnson sticks around, then we should expect a decision soon.
Reports across the board suggest that Bradley will be passed up for yet another head coaching job, this time at UConn, in favor of Miami offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. Temple, Pitt, and UConn will now all have bypassed the longtime Paterno assistant this offseason.
If Bradley stays, then Johnson undoubtedly stays as well. And it looks like a certainty that Bradley will be the Nittany Lions defensive coordinator once again next season.
With the Bradley situation seemingly settled, it bodes well for the original favorites in the Ishaq race, the Orange and the Irish, if the prized recruit continues to balk on making a choice.
Maybe then, just maybe, the Williams family was never as enamored with Larry Johnson and Penn State as we thought, and Ishaq will end up donning orange and blue instead of white and blue after all.

Penn State is just all over the place. An 84 year old coach who’s status or intentions as a coach there are constantly in question, a defensive coordinator who wants out, an underachieving football team year in and year out. Why would this kid choose that place over Syracuse and Doug Marrone is absolutely beyond me. Syracuse offers this kid stability, a top 10 defensive unit, location, a lovable coach, and so much more. Four and five star recruits like this have the opportunity to be the face of a program. This kid would be the face of Syracuse football if he came here. Go to Penn St and ND, and just be another rat in the rat race there.
With his dad saying he wants Ishaq to be known nationally, that does not bode well for Cuse with ND having basically every game scheduled nationally, and the Big Ten Network also airing 3-4 conference games nationally and with PSU on the major networks each week.
It just doesn’t make any sense. Syracuse is far and away the best choice if you believe all that the family has been saying. Cuse is the only school of the bunch that ishaq could be the face of the program as well as being part of a movement that brings SU back into the National Conversation. Ishaq could have the same impact on football that the original Melo had on basketball short term and long term. Cuse makes the most sense Ishaq.. come to the Cuse and you wont regret it
Wants his son to be known? Best way to get noticed is to play well in college. After all the NFL’s leader in sacks is from Troy.

What’s with Tom Bradley consistently getting passed over for HC jobs? Beano Cook has been touting this guy for years but he never seems to get one. Beano thought Bradley should have gotten the SU job over Robinson. His name constantly pops up at places but to no avail.

I agree with Vito on everything but location. Location is NOT a selling point for SU. If you stay on the U Hill the whole time it’s not horrible but look outside. This town is dead and as climate as Siberia. Luckily for us all the top 3 are not exactly Southern Cal or Miami.
