Listen to a post-game FizzCast from Seattle:

Early Saturday, The Fizz posted about that stench still wafting from the last time Syracuse met Washington.
It was a hideous affair, from both the jerseys worn to the product on the field. It might not have been as ugly in Seattle – the Orange wore it’s new/old duds and jumped out to a 10-0 lead – but there certainly was a pinch of deja vu.
Couzens and Conroy on the FizzCast:
“Syracuse got out ahead early, just like they did in 2007, but the defense was out on the field far too often. They were up 10-0 but I was saying, ‘There’s just no way they can keep up this pace. They’re playing way over their head right now.’”
Why did it seem every possession ended with a Husky wideout running free through the secondary leaving a wake of SU defenders?
“It was an attempt to implement a new strategy for Marrone. He talked about leaving his guys in single coverage on the outside. But you put body on body, Washington receivers versus Syracuse defensive backs, that was the problem.”
Will we lose Couzens to the Pacific Northwest’s Hipsterville?
“The neighborhood I was staying at was Fremont and it’s notorious for hipsters. I’m gonna be coming back wearing Converse sneakers and a plaid button-down.”
Even Brian Bennett of ESPN.com took a swipe at the delusion of Orange Nation after yesterday’s loss.
“I actually had Syracuse fans asking me this week about what bowl they were going to and whether the Orange could be ranked by Week 5.¬†This was never going to be an easy game — three time zones away and on the road. But I expected a better performance. Syracuse should still be 3-1 after its first four games, but it has a lot of room for improvement.”
The most disturbing trend from Saturday night was the supposed strength of the team getting shredded by the Washington passing attack. Marrone’s defensive marauders will need to keep this team in ballgames with turnovers and timely stops. Against Locker, it looked overmatched.
This would’ve been an enormous leap forward for the program. Instead, we wait to pound a pair of FCS schools. The good news is the Big East continues to look vulnerable (anyone watch West Virginia Friday night?). Let’s just hope Maine doesn’t have a potential Heisman Hopeful in its back pocket for Saturday at the Dome.
