Look, we’ll admit it. We here at The Fizz are a little preoccupied with Mike Williams.
We all know the drill; once star player leaves The Hill, Orange Nation ignores said player’s professional endeavors and latches onto next recruit.
But Williams has our attention. Primarily because his story has as much chance to succeed wildly as it does to crash and burn (maybe more predictably).
So, when M-Dub was nabbed in the 4th-round of the NFL Draft by the Buccaneers, we certainly paid attention. The Bucs just wrapped up rookie camp and guess who Fox Tampa Bay decided to do a profile on?
Williams got favorable reviews and caught the eye of coach Raheem Morris. Mike also defended Tampa Bay’s faith in drafting him.
“They went down and searched through everything. They talked to all the coaches. They went back to my high school coach. Talk with all of the players that were involved. I was in their meeting room more than anybody. You only got to meet 15 minutes and I was in there long. I don’t know how long it was, but it was way more than 15 minutes. They got everything and they are satisfied. That’s why I’m here.”
One of the most comical lines in the piece, however, is Williams nickname (which none of us ever knew at Syracuse).
“His talent is matched by a ‘will to win’. It’s actually his nickname — friends call him ‘Mike Will,’ as in Mike will do it.”
I mean, you’re kidding, right? Who ever called him that? Who dished this information to Fox? And what exactly “will Mike do?” Cheat on tests? Spend a mysterious year away from the football team? Get suspended again and leave the team last season? Will to win? This is just laughable. Win what? First to drive Syracuse football fans to migraines?
“People have this image of me that I’m such a bad person off the field; on the field I don’t work as hard. So I’ve got something to prove. I work hard on the field and I’m a good person off the field. Yes, I feel I have something to prove.”
I don’t think Mike is a bad person. These are not violent crimes he has a track record of. But he absolutely has been a knucklehead. He cost himself plenty of money in the draft since he always had the skills of a 1st or 2nd round guy. And he squandered a college career as one of the most exciting wideouts of the last 20 years in the 315.
But that “will to win?” Someone tell the Bucs not to hold their breath.

You’re right. You ARE obsessed with Mike Williams. You are pretty much “cyber stalking” him and it’s rather sad to read this crap about former palyers on a site that claims to support the university. Non-SU recruiters must love it.
