“My¬†high school basketball career¬†is over. I don’t like to lose, but I’m not going to sit and think about it so much, because it’s over with.
“Now my focus will be on trying to win a national championship wherever I choose to go to school. It’s on to the next picture.”
That’s what future Orange/Wildcat/Gator/Husky point guard Brandon Knight had to say after his high school lost the Florida 3A state championship game this year.
Not only did they lose, they got hammered—Pinecrest lost 70-46 to a high school from Tallahassee (FL).
Knight scored 18 points, but that was way down from his season average of 32.5, and a big disappointment to him.
‚ÄúWhen Knight was presented with his second-place medal, he took it off. Someone from Pine Crest would put it back on him and he’d take it back off.
“I think he had that¬†silver medal¬†on for about 10 seconds total,” said Fabian Lyon, a reporter from¬†The Miami Herald.
So there are now no more decisions to be made for Knight at the high school level except for one Рwhere he goes next.  We are now in the midst of the late signing period, so Knight decision could come any day.
Of high school stars in recent memory, he has been one of the most guarded when it comes to his college decision.
He’s no Tobias Harris tweeting away about who might be the lucky school, and he doesn’t seem to have any entourages or posses. It’s just him and his mother involved in the college selection process.
And obviously mothers always make everything more difficult than it has to be. Knight’s expected to possibly/maybe/hopefully choose between UConn, Kansas State, Florida, Kentucky and Syracuse in the coming weeks.
Apparently he hasn’t ruled out an unofficial visit to Syracuse either.
The next big event in the Knight saga appears to be Kentucky’s John Wall turning pro. Knight has long been rumored to possibly he headed to UK and be the next star point guard for coach John Calipari.
Would it be surprising if that’s what happens? No. The Kentucky system is definitely appealing and their national hype this season always boosts recruiting.
However it’s never a good idea to count The Per’Fesser and the SU coaching staff out of any race Рand this one’s far from over.

Although it seems UK would easily get Knight, let’s all think about this. He wants to win a championship and with all 5 stars on UK going pro he will have a hard time bringing a championship to UK in just 1 year. I think Kansas St and Syracuse seem like the best options if he wants to win and win NOW. But, who wants to live in Manhattan, KS when you can get a HOF coach, great academics, and a potential top 10 squad at ‘Cuse.
Evan, K-State is not on the final list for Knight. I think UConn is dead. I’m hearing the players are grumbling about Calhoun. Calipari has the track record of kids that jump to the pros at the Guards. I think it may be down to Ky, then UF – and SU starting to make some ground. Read FRI’s post.
If he REALLY wants to win a NCAA Championship in the next year or two, he’d better scratch Kentucky off his list. Even if I wasn’t a ‘Cuse fan, just look at the line-ups and recruits coming in on all the squads he’s considering. Hate losing? Want to play for a HOF coach in front of 30,000 fans, be on national TV more than the other schools, and have the best chance at winning the NCAA?
The choice is clear.
