Last Friday 2016 3-star quarterback Anthony Brown verbally committed to Boston College over Syracuse, Wake Forest, Temple and Northwestern. Orange Offensive Coordinator Tim Lester told Brown that he was SU’s top quarterback target in the 2016 class back in March.
So where does Syracuse go from here? The Orange has offered ten 2016 quarterbacks according to 247sports.com, but seven of them have already verbally committed to a school. One of the recruits who still has yet to make a decision is Christian Brothers Academy QB Jack Brotzki.
Brotzki will most likely choose to play football at Syracuse before National Signing Day in February. He’s a local kid and the Orange is his only Division I offer, plus his father is the Director of Player Development for SU. So why did Syracuse put so much effort into recruiting Brown when the program had Brotzki in the palm of its hand?
Brown’s better, Brotzki has a two-star rating on 247 and Rivals. The way this recruiting cycle has unfolded thus far it, appears that SU wants to bring in a second quarterback in addition to the CBA product.
One possibility is Florida quarterback Sawyer Smith. Smith is a 3-star pro-style quarterback who was offered by Syracuse in April. SU receivers coach Bobby Acosta is the lead recruiter with Smith. Acosta was just on a recruiting trip to the Sunshine State last week, but it is unclear if he met with Smith during that time.
The final QB Syracuse has offered from the 2016 class that has not yet verbally committed anywhere is 3-star dual-threat quarterback Joshua Jackson. Jackson comes from Michigan and has more Power Five offers than both Brotzki and Smith.
Whatever happens this cycle, Syracuse will have plenty of quarterbacks on the roster when the 2016 class arrives on the Hill. That list includes Austin Wilson, AJ Long, Zack Mahoney, Eric Dungey and Kenterius Womack. SU’s staff would love to add to that list.

Next year we HOPEFULLY have Long Wilson Dungey and Womack…Let’s set our sites on 2
stud qbs and recruit them hard for the 2017 class if we can’t get Jackson.

A couple of things/statements in your article bothers me a little.
you say we lost Anthony Brown as QB because he committed to Boston College. AS we’ve all learned over the last couple of years a VERBAL COMMITTMENT doesn’t mean a damn thing. I think if Bobby Acosta hounds this kid enough there’s a slight chance he flips and comes to Syracuse. Nothing is final until NLOI signing day.
B) Quote “Brown’s better, Brotzki has a two-star rating on 247 and Rivals” Hey Tebow are you paying any attention here? How can anyone make that statement because of one player have one extra star than the other? What experience does that (*) have? Did it grow arms,hands? Did it throw a football to anyone in a game? I guess a guy like (2*) Marcus Mariota instead of playing Div I football and getting drafted 2nd in the draft shouldn’t have bothered going to college and should have taken/listened to all of the so-called pundits that told him he wasn’t good enough to play the game because of his 2* rating. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with ORANGEINVA, We will have 4 quarterbacks in 2016 let’s wait and see what those 4 players can do. Spend the scholarships on four other recruits where we need the help most,and give attention to bringing in 2 top rated QB’s for the 2017 class.
Lester has proven himself useless as a QB coach…Now that he has become offensive coordinator, his brilliant idea is to have about a half dozen QBs while his offensive line is a joke in the ACC……Don’t waste the additional scholarships and, In the words of Bear Bryant, go find some offensive and defensive line recruits who are “AGILE, MOBILE AND HOSTILE”..

If SU wanted Brown he would’ve chosen SU and SU is free to change their mind and he will jump at the opportunity to join syracuse’s top 10 recruiting class.
However according to Otto’s Grove Tennis Coach SU already has two five star talents coming this summer and the other recruits they are looking into this class are elite talents so SU is just stacked at QB.
Brotzki has been described by analyst as a Mariota clone with better accuracy, arm strength, mobility, Football IQ, strength and leadership qualities. Its not likely he would beat womack out anyway who has been described as the best QB recruit this country has ever seen. His athletic ability combined with his football IQ makes Andrew Luck look like Matt Hale.

First I want to thank you for mentioning “OTTO’s GROVE” web site for us. At first I thought you were being sarcastic and well you know just bull shiting us. I looked it up and found out who Jeff Kelly is. I read his article titled “It’s time to extend Scott Shafer”. I found the article to be well written and to the point. What’s truly amazing is the fact he touched on the top talent that he and his staff is after and commented that this could be the best class in years for the Syracuse Football program.
Jeez I think I mentioned that same thing last week when I mentioned this could be the best class since the 1959 National Championship team.
I’ve been criticised recently for comparing Shafer to Schwartswalder,but I feel Coach Shafer is the man that will lead Syracuse back onto the national scene. I know it takes time and his last two(2014/2015)classes have been improvements to anything Doug Marrone had done previously.

I’m not trying to rub salt into anyones wounds here and I’ll be the first to tell you that I don’t know all there is to know about recruiting. But after reading that article by Jeff Kelly and articles written by a reporter for ESPN and a article posted earlier here on this web site,all three were saying the same thing. Shafer and staff especially Bobby Acosta are on the verge of bringing one of the best ever classes here to Syracuse. that my friend is TRULY AMAZING!!!!!!
First of the extend scott shafer is a terrible article. The writing in it is a new brand of horrible. The thing reads like a long opinion piece not an article based on facts or even an idea. If you read the entire thing he says that Shafer should be extended and then mentions one reason…Robert Washington gave a verbal to syracuse lol. Washington didn’t sign and isn’t on campus he just gave a verbal(less then 48 hours after giving one to flordia) how is that worthy of an extension lol. So until there becomes a list of reasons to extend shafer its a silly ‘article’ at best but fact is its terrible.
Second issue with that website is the ‘recruiting analyst’, that reviews video tape of SU prospects. The first problem with that guy is that every SU recruit is amazing he has issues coming up with any flaws in any recruits game. He reviewed Dungey’s tape and just bragged about how all of his throws were nfl throws….uh no they weren’t. The biggest issue with him is his dishonest biography. His entire football background consists of one year as a volunteer assistant coach at a high school. He also claims that HE sent kids to Alabama, Virginia and a number of other schools. However some very easy research on the Alabama/Virginia websites and some googling and rivals/scout research reveals that Bama and Virginia have never had a kid from that school on their team, nor does an article appear anywhere saying that a kid from that school had committed anywhere during his time there.
He also said last year that Shafer’s first class was the best in the last 15 years, then this feb that class was the best in the last 25 years. So it only makes sense that this would be the best ever.
However I won’t be a total non-believer since you are so convinced.
So give us a quick breakdown of the top recruits in that 1959 class at each position and their rank nationally and do the same with this years class.
the idea that someone could compare the two just shows how lost both of you are. Did you know in 1959 they only threw the ball 152 times all season? Of course you did lol.
There is no doubt that Shafer is amazing and with him coming up so short with a soft schedule last year he should come up big this year. This years schedule is one of the easiest the program has had the last 25 seasons. There are four games that are tough and 8 games that would be at best average difficulty. Should win the average ones and split the tough ones 10-2 is the bottom of the barrel the season especially with like you said such an talented team, but we will see won’t we lol.
Let’s not forget those ‘articles’ and opinions written by fans(which is what jeff kelly/orange fizz are) also listed Brown as part of the great recruiting class…of course he is going to BC, but then there was moore who is more talented anyway (lol yeah ok) who would push su over the top…then he committed to smu but now there is brotzki and his zero other offers he will lead this team to greatness. don’t worry though they have dungey and womack and there no offers from other programs because they are really five star recruits just both somehow under the radar because people don’t recruit alabama at all and there aren’t any good programs there to look for a kid like womack.
None of it is amazing.
I remember when P got fired. There was a new coach Greg Robinson who said he was going to recruit national and the first recruit he pulled in was a highly recruited WR Lavar Lobdell. Kid was choosing between USC and Miami and was going to stay home with syracuse instead. Kid was a program changer there were articles written and blogs filled with the new future for SU and BCS championships were sure to follow.
Do I need to tell you how that ended?
Acosta is doing amazing….I mean he’s had zero commits since that article that sure is a program changer all right.
