Syracuse assistant head coach Tim Daoust and wide receivers coach Rob Moore paid a visit to Miami Killian Senior High School Tuesday. Both coaches, known for their persuasive recruiting pitches (Daoust in the Midwest and Moore with WR commit KJ Williams), extended an offer to cornerback Trumaine Washington. Although currently committed to Akron, Washington has gained significant attention from ACC schools in Syracuse and soon-to-be Louisville.
Washington resides in Miami, Fla. and has dashing quickness in the secondary. He plans to make a trip up On the Hill January 31 with several other potential Oranges. Daoust and Moore made the trip for plenty of reasons, but one stood out to Washington:
“They said they liked my speed. I have great speed. I can cover well. They like the Miami people too and asked if I could come for a visit on the 31st. I said well I had scheduled FIU (Florida International) but I shut that down because Syracuse is a big school. With 3 DBs leaving, they said they need some people to come play right away.”
The idea of stepping foot on the field the moment you sign on the dotted line lights the eyes of any high school player. Daoust and Moore lit the lids of Washington with the proposal of immediate playing time. SU consistently researches secondary players to bring in, whether it’s high school, junior college or through transfers.
The program struggles to maintain success in the defensive backfield. Washington shouldn’t take the offer lightly because cornerback and safety positions are often wide open come time for spring practice at Manley Fieldhouse.
The Charlie Strong-less Cardinals are also in on Washington’s services. He tells The Fizz he knows some familiar faces aboard the Louisville coaching staff:
“Terrell Buckley (from Akron) got a job at Louisville as the corners’ coach. He really liked me and wants me to play for him. Also, Coach Lamar Thomas from Western Kentucky switched over to Louisville too. The Akron coach came to my school today and I told him I don’t have my choice but I will know after my Syracuse visit. He said ‘okay.’”
So it sounds like Zips head man Terry Bowden doesn’t have much of a problem with Washington exploring other options. Bowden really can’t contest that. How can Washington just ignore a pair of legitimate offers from ACC schools?
“This is my second ACC School to offer me. It’s great. It is amazing these schools are coming. I wish I had earlier on in my high school career that I wanted to go to, and now they are coming, For Syracuse to say they need people to play right away, that’s what I want to do. I am not trying to red shirt for any school.”
His Louisville visit is slated for January 24, followed by a date with the Orange the next week. Syracuse has the advantage in terms of giving Washington his final look prior to National Signing Day. It doesn’t hurt either to have, without question, the biggest regular-season college basketball game of the season between Duke and SU that weekend.
Picture the looks on some of the 2014 prospects’ faces.
247 Sports gives Louisville a 75 percent chance to land Washington. The other 25 percent goes to Akron, a program he committed to just before Christmas. Really hard to understand why Syracuse isn’t getting any shot to land the 2-star defensive back. Yes, Louisville provides familiarity, but Washington has a boatload of that, along with numerous players on the SU roster from the Miami area.
From the sound of it, Washington’s last words for The Fizz seem promising:
“They want me to play right away. It’s a great school. It’s all positive, no negatives about Syracuse. It is probably going to be the school I like most because they want me to play right away. Only time will tell.”

2* 5’10” 170 lb (CB) Trumaine Washington is going to be on the hill with other recruits at the end of the month. What are some of the other recruits names that will be attending? Are there any big surprises coming at the end of the month?
Schools of interest for Trumaine are;
Akron, Louisville, Syracuse, Appalachian State, Duke, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Miami (Fl), Purdue, Western Kentucky
Could be interesting knowing that Syracuse doesn’t have a chance of landing him.
Size size size!! Not weight as much as height!!
DO NOT FORGET THE KIDS OF PSABUSEDU!! THE NCAA DID!!
Did you guys miss the news of Juwan Dowels of East St. Louis HS committing????
Dowels is bigger news! Hello Fizz!
yeah where is the story on Dowels. Kid committed to SU and no news?!!
Bad news when a 2* gets to start right away, lack of tallent.
Hey Chris Scout had Estime as a 2* that seems to be working out alright.
So the coaches need to beat out Akron for Washington’s game at Syracuse.The star rating system is so subjective that following and recruiting to that system is moronic. If the kid comes in and does the job who cares about his star rating after that?All you need to do is look at Ashton Broyld to see how worthless that rating is. In basketball we have Dajuan Coleman to point to as a big time 5* player. Any need to go further in this?
We need speed
I know this might be a shocker to you guys but he’s actually a 3 star recruit on 247sports so I wouldn’t sleep on him also as far as 2 star goes ummmmm shamarko Thomas Jerome smith chandler Arthur jones Ryan nassib hmmmmm they all seemed to work out great it’s not the stars it’s the player also wheres the live fer juwan fizz? Come on man

Coming down the wire to finish up this year’s class. The coaches know their business, who they want and what they need in this class. So far so good, but as an outsider, I am concerned about the biggies OL and DL. Pretty thin there so far. Anyone else share this concern?
@John Humphries Yes. Especially OL. It doesn’t matter who your wr’s are if your qb doesn’t have enough time to throw the ball.
Heard SU loss on LB and WR that visited today. Any truth to that??
John H. I think we get Ward and that makes two OL prospects this class. That said, I think we only lose one or two at the end of the year. I think we have 15 OL players sticking around. Center seems the thinnest. That said, I can always want more, as they can really change the tide of a team (see 2012 with Pugh’s return from injury).
I gave my thoughts on Dowels in the Prater article. Sounds explosive and quick.
Ron, I assume you’re being sarcastic about having no chance with Washinton. I think I remember reading there was a package deal in the works with him too. Maybe I am mistaken on that.
Lost adly enoicy who is visiting 31st but haven’t heard any lb denzel ward seems like a lock look at his twitter he loved it here and his mom loves coach shafer after yesterday lol Ishmael is a lock also if been watching twitter a lot more than the recruiting sites lately it seems the actual prospects twitter is a free tell all I’d encourage anyone to go check there’s out any time you see someone we offer you’ll learn alot
This Db story is ??? considering Dowels commitment, but glad to see the pursuit is on to pillage non AQ schools.. who obviously don’t deserve 2 & 3 stars Lmao.
“Bigger, faster, stronger…” still applies to the SU FB program. We need all the talent we can get, especially the secondary…and I know HCDM left some talent in the trenches, but 3 lineman for a draft class is bad. Young coaches are over extending for DBs..
Not sure of what you’re hearing Terry, but I have heard that we won’t get Kyron Watson (he is still a Kansas verbal, but we have a scheduled in home with him tomorrow) and Adley Enoicy (who committed ot FIU today). I have also heard that we may still have a shot at him, and he may still take his visit 1/31. Some think he wanted to hold a spot, just in case and others think he wanted to stay close to home or was scared off by the weather. Too soon to say for sure on either of them. We need to wait it out.
Being snap chat friends with Brisly Estime (one of Enoicy’s former teammates and good friends) I can tell you he makes the weather look terrible so Malone might be onto something there and I agree we aren’t out of it yet
Whats with all the WR/DB’s? We need some D-Line man in specific a tackle or 2 to ease the departure of Bromley, not to mention Wayne Williams Zian Jones and Eric Crume are all juniors leaving us with only Sloan and Coleman as the scholarship D-tackles in 2 years
Ishmael seems like a win, Ward seems like a win, this kid Trumaine Washington feels a win, Zeek Rodney feels like a win, but outside of that who else is on our recruiting board. If anyone is a member of syracuse scout will they please inform me on the details of that recruiting board article.
Malone those are the 2 I meant!! Watson was a huge loss and I heard the same about Enoicy(Jamaican) that SU’s weather patterns were a no sale. They will not be in SU uni’s next year!! Big loss!!
@Malone;
I read where Trumaine was 75% certain he was going to stick with his original committment to Akron and that Louisville was in second place with having a 25% chance of landing him. Syracuse wasn’t even mentioned in the article that I read. I was just letting everyone know what the arrticle was saying and I apologize if you thought I was being sarcastic.
Both Scout.com and rivals.com has Trumaine as a N/R 2* player. @Zjscuse is saying that 247 sports has him as 3* athlete.
With a little bit of hope and a lot of luck,he decides to commit to the orange after his visit.
It hurts a little knowing that we lost out on Kyron Watson and Adly Enoicy. Both players would have been great additions to the orange.
We haven’t lost out on kyron supposedly we have an in home today with him he’s just keeping everything on the down low not really talking to anyone he only responded to espn in two small texts not on the phone about the whole ku is his home in fact fer the most part ku didn’t even know he visited us if we do visit him today it’s on let the battle begin if not we still got mikale wilbon visiting which could be a final hoorah we still got a lot of good recruits in the mix there’s going to be some surprises come February 5 th
Rob Moore is a great pos.coach but silvery-tounged recruiter? I’m just surprised he was recruiting Fla now instead of his NE recruiting grounds in NY/NJ/Pa(KJ Wms or AJ Long main recruiter?) !?! Maybe the change of venue will work out recruitingwise? He was’nt terrible downstate but just could’nt crack the ice with the bigfish there.
He didn’t go it alone. I believe he was in tow with McDonald. Maybe they are trying to build him relationships with coaches, and learn some sales techniques.
@Russell Dangerfield;
If it’s true that Rob Moore was switched from the Northeast for recruiting AND IS NOW IN FLORIDA,would explain why the Cuse is in NJ and is going after 20-25 maybe 30 recruits there. With the new coaching changes at Boston College,Penn St and Pittsburgh over the last couple years,recruiting is going to be a challenge. Whomever Shafer has given the NYC/LI/NJ region too I wish him the very best and hope that he starts winning some of the recruiting battles.
